B. P. LANDIS.
SHELF BRACKET.
No. 466,608. Patented Jan. 5, 1892.
War-2265 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EZRA F. LANDIS, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
SH ELF-BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,608, dated January 5, 1892.
Application filed May 21, 1891.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, EZRA F. LANDIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shelf-Brackets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in brackets, and is especially designed to serve as a support for shelves, a clothes hanger or hook, and a towel-rack, thus combinin gin one the three features.
The leading object of my invention is the provision of a bracket which can be applied directly against a wall or other facing and also on the right and left side to a windoweasing, door frame, and the like, whereby the bracket is adapted for use in any and all of the three positionsand secures all the advantages of the three kinds of brackets in one.
Another object of my invention is the provision of abracket which can be used in either or all of the three positions and which combines with the supporting-bracket an efficient clothes-hook and towel-rack.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a combined bracket of the character named which can be manufactured at as low a price as the ordinary bracket, and which will be Very strong and durable, thus securing a device which possesses all the features to render it useful and practical.
To attain the desired objects the invention consists of a device constructed substantially as illustrated, described, and specifically defined and distinguished by the claims.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a bracket constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of another form of my bracket, and Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of another form of my bracket.
My improved bracket consists of a vertical arm A, which is provided with openings at to Serial No. 393,646- (No model.)
receive fastenings for securing the same to the wall or the like, and a horizontal arm B, which acts as a support for a shelf or other object.
In the form of my bracket shown in Fig. 1 the vertical arm is provided on one side with a lug C, preferably in the form of ahook, and with a brace 0, said lug and brace being provided with openings 0 to receive fastenings for securing the bracket on one side. On the opposite side of the vertical arm and alternately to the lug and brace of the other side are formed a hook-shaped lug D and a brace D, said hook and brace being formed with openings (1 to receive fastenings. From this construction it is evident that the bracket can be secured in position by means of the vertical arm and also secured in a right and left position by means of the lugs and braces, so as to adapt the bracket to the requirements of circumstances.
In Fig. 2 I provide on one side of the vertical arm a brace E and a brace E, formed with a ring E and a hook E and on the opposite, arranged alternately, a brace F and a hook F. An ordinary towel-roller may be supported in the rings of a pair of brackets of this form, and by this construction a bracket, towel-rack, and hat or clothes hook are provided. 4
In Fig. 3 I employ the brace G and lugs G on one side of the vertical arm, and on the other side thereof the lug H and the brace II, having the ring H and hook H ,"for the purpose before stated.
It will thus be seen that I produce a bracket which is simple, strong, and cheap, which can be used as a bracket in three positions, and which serves as a towel-rack and hat or clothes hook in a thorough and effective manner.
It will be apparent that the device may be used for stiffening door and window screens and other frames.
I reserve the right to make minor changes in the arrangement and location of parts, to ornament the bracket as desired, to use the bracket in any way, and other changes within the scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention- 1. A shelf bracket or support consisting of the Vertical arm having holes therein, lugs extending outward from each side of said arm alternately with reference to each other and formed with holes, and a horizontal shelf-supporting arm, as stated.
2. In a shelf-bracket, the vertical and horizontal arms, braces connecting said arms upon either side, and holes through the vertical arms and braces, whereby the bracket may be attached to two intersecting walls, sub stantially as described.
3. In a shelf-bracket, the vertical and horizontal arms, lugs, or ears upon either sideof the vertical arm, braces forming continuations of the lugs or ears, rings formed upon the braces for the reception of a roller or other article, and hooks also formed upon the braces, substantially as described.
4. A shelf bracket or support consisting of the Vertical arm having holes therein, lugs or hooks extending outward from said arm alternately with reference to each other and provided with openings, the horizontal arm, and a brace or braces connecting said arms, as stated.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EZRA F. LANDIS. \vitnessesz J ACOB HALBAOH, JACOB O. SHAUB.
