SHERIDAN PHILIP IIEEP, OF MILLVALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
PICTURE-HANGING DEVICE.
isPEclFlcA'llitlN forming part of Letters Patent No. 67 5,1 54, dated May 28, 1901.
Application filed April 28, 1900. Resewed February 27, 1901. Serial No. 49,156. (No model.)
To call whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SHERIDAN PHILIP IIEEP, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Millvale, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Hanging Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in picture-hanging devices, and more particularly to that class of brackets for suspending pictures from the walls of rooms or other places.
The invent-ion aims to construct a bracket for hanging apicture from the wall of a room or other place and provide the bracket with means to permit of elevating and lowering the picture.
Briefly described, the invention consists of a triangular-shaped bracket adapted to be connected to the wall of aroom or other place and provided with a suspending-rod, to which the picture is connected and which is provided with means to permit of the raising and lowering of the picture.
The invention finally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which'- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved bracket. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof,
showing the same-secured to the wall of a room and a picture in position. Fig. 3 is a side view thereof, showing the position of the picture when the same is lowered.
Referring to the drawings by referencenumerals, 1 indicates the bracket, which is formed of a suitable piece of wire bent substantially triangular in contour and having one end extending upwardly, as at 2, which is provided with an eye 3 for mounting upon the hook 4, secured to the wall of the room, and which permits of suspending the bracket in the manner desired. Near the lower end of one side of the bracket are mounted the brace-rods 5 6, which are formed of a single piece of wire looped around the bracket 1, as shown. The ends of each of the brace-rods 5 6 are provided with an eye 7 to receive fastening means for securing the rods to the wall of a room.
The reference-numeral 8 indicates a suspending-rod which has each end formed with an eye 9 to receive suitable means for securing the picture 10 thereto. The suspendingrod 8 is connected at its upper end to the bracket 1 by means of ,the guide 11, formed of a suitable piece of wire, rigidly secured at one end to the rod 8 and at its opposite end slidably connected to one side of the bracket 1. The lower end of the rod 8 has suitably secured thereto a hook 12, which is adapted to engage in the catch 13, carried by the bracket 1. The hook 12 when in engagement with the catch 13 will suspend a picture, as shown in Fig. 2; but when released from engagement with the catch 13 the picture will be permitted to be lowered by means of the guide sliding to the lower end of the bracket. This position of the picture is shown in Fig. 3.
It is thought the many advantages of my improved device can be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and it will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a triangular-shaped bracket adapted to be suitably connected to a wall or other object, a suspending-rod slidably connected to said bracket, and means carried by said rod for connecting a picture thereto.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a bracket, a pair of bracerods suitably connected thereto, a suspending-rod, and means for suitably connecting said rod to said bracket.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a bracket provided with an eye to permit of securing the same to a.
Wall or other object, a pair of brace-rods connected to said bracket and provided with an' eye to permit of securing the same to a Wall or other object, a suspending-rod adapted to be connected to a picture, and means for slidably connecting said suspending-rod to said bracket.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of a bracket provided with an eye to permit of securing the same to a wall or other object, a pair of brace-rods connected to said bracket and provided with an eye to permit of securing the same to a wall or other object, a suspending-rod adapted to be connected to a picture, and means for suitably connecting said rod and said bracket.
5. In adevice of the character described, the combination of a bracket provided with an eye to permit of securing the same to a wall or other object, a pair of brace-rods connected to said bracket and provided with an eye to permit of securing the same to a wall or other object, a suspending-rod adapted to be connected to a picture, a guide connected to said rod and said bracket, a catch carried by said bracket, and a hook carried by said rod and adapted to engage in said catch for retaining the said rod in the elevated position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature 30 in the presence of two Witnesses.
SHERIDAN PHILIP HEEP.
