UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HEN Y s. SANDERSON, OF NEW YORK, Y., AND EDWARD B. sIMMoNs,
JERsEY oITY, NEW JERsEY.
PICTURE-EXHIBITOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,504, dated June 12, 1853. Application filed February 13 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HENRY S3 SANDERSON, of the city, county, and State of New York, and EDWARD B. SIMMoNs, of Jersey City,
county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Exhibitors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which IO form a part of the same.
Our invention has relation to panoramic picture exhibitors for advertising; and its object is to provide a means for displaying a series of advertising in connection with a pano- I5 ramic picture or a series of pictures; and the novelty consists in the construction of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings similar let- 2o ters of reference indicate like parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a. front elevation of our invention; Fig. 2, a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal view in section, and Fig. 4
a transverse vertical section of the same.
'A is the base and B the front, which may be of any suitable size, shape, and ornamentation.
C is the central opening in the front B,
0 through which the matter is exhibited.
D is the framework, in which is mounted the vertical main rollers E E, upon which the curtain G is mounted.
F E are two auxiliary rollers, which serve 5 to press the curtain against the opening 0, so that its surface may be kept even and taut.
The rollers E E are provided at their lower ends with gears J J, which mesh in the pinions K K, having the crank-handles M M, by
40 which the main rollers and curtain are operated.
The top of the curtain is provided with a' series of balls, c a, secured thereto on its up per edge at short intervals, and as the line of the top of the curtain passes between the nails 0 c it is supported thereon by the balls a and rides along horizontally on top of the rails, which prevent the curtain from sagging between the rollers.
Q is a screw-rod, inserted in the bottom of 50.
to the other roller, E, it of course having been passed over the auxiliary rollers F F. It will thus be seen that the curtain can then be moved as desired by operating the crankhandles M M.
The surface of the curtain maybe decorated with any kind of attractive or interesting de vices in addition to the advertisements desirable to display.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by LettersPatent of the United States, is-
1. A picture exhibitor consisting of the frame D, having main rollers E E and auxiliary rollers F F, and curtain G, having balls a c on its upper edge, supportedon the rails c c 7 5 and adapted to be moved horizontally on said rails, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the main rollers E E, auxiliary rollers F F, and curtain G, hav- 8o ing balls a (t on its upper edge, supported on rails c c, of the screw-rods 0 o, and hand ad justing-wheels P P, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two Witnesses.
HENRY S. SANDERSON. EDWARD B. SIMMONS.
