BACKGROUND DISPLAYING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent, Patented I 21 1922 Application filed November e, 1921'. Serial No. 513,765.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Harry M. \VADE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clarksburg, in the county of Harrison and State of \Vest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Background Displaying Device, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates generally to a background supporting device used in photography and has for its principal object to provide convenient means whereby a plurality of back-grounds may be displayed so asto form various novel effects.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which will be of extremely simple, durable and inexpensive construction, one which is efficient and reliable in operation, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
\Vith these and numerous other objects in view, which will appear as the description of the invention progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device,
Figure 2 is a section taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows,
Figure 3 is an edge elevation thereof,
Figure -l isa vertical section taken through the device on the lines an of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a transverse section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow, and
Figure 6 is a detail section taken on the line 66 of Figure 4.
Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the frame 1 is of rectangular construction being notched at 2 adjacent its lower corners so as to rest upon the pair of supporting beams 3 which are fixed thereto by the screws 4: or some such other suitable means. The corner braces 6 are provided in the frame so that the same will be rigid at all times and so that rough treatment or the like will not distort the same. A pair of braces 7 is provided at the ends of the device and each brace has its upper end at tached to the frame 1 and has its lower end attached to one of the supporting beams 3.
(the supporting beams 3 are provided with suitable castors 8 so that the device may be readily moved from place to place as may be desired. As is seen in the transverse sections namely Figures 2 and 5, the frame 1 is provided with a groove 10 adjacent one edge for receiving a removable frame 11 which is held in place by the retaining elements 12- which'may be of any suitable structure. In the present illustration, this removable frame-ll is shown in the form of lattice work but it is to be understood that the same may be constructed so as to represent any desirable scenery such as a fence or gate and the like. A pair of cross pieces 13 is situated on the upper end of the frame 1, one adjacent-each side, for supporting suitable curtain rollers'lec which may be of any preferred construction. These curtain rollers are situated on either side of the main frame 1 and preferably on both sides thereof and may be of any desired number. The curtains lat (shown in Fig. .4: only) which will be placed on the rollers 1% may have any suitable back ground design, painted thereon, so that various effects may be obtained by using the curtain with or without the removable. frame 11. For example, a curtain may be shown with a house thereon and the removable frame maybe constructed so as to represent a fence or gate in front thereof andin this manner an effective back ground may be provided for a picture either in photography or painting and even in window displaying for advertising purposes.
The cross pieces 3 are held in firm engagement with the main frame 1 by the sheet metal strips 16 which are fixed to the cross pieces and to the main frame by screws or over the cross pieces and over the frame, that is over its upper end, so as to house the rollers 14 preventing dust from settling thereon and of course this hood may be artis tically designed or painted, so as to harmonize with the general appearance of the device. The resilient pulley brackets 18 are situated on the sides of the frame 1 so that the operating ropes or chains 19 may be trained over the pulleys therein for actuation of the various rollers 14:. The handles 20 are provided on the sides of the main frame so as to aid in moving the device from place to place when found desirable or necessary. The hood 17 is slightly spaced above the frame 1. resting on the cross pieces 13 a and the lag screws 25 pass through the hood 1?, and the top frame 1.
The resilient pulley brackets 18 include the casiiws 27 having coil springs 28 therein, and the plunger members 29 are slidable in the casings engageable -With the coilof my invention have been described in detail. it will be understood that I do not Wish to be limited to the. particular construction set forth, since various changes in theform, material, proportions, and arrangement of parts, and in the details of construction may he resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, or destroying any of the advantages contained in the same, heretofore described and defined in the sub-joined claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is l. A display device of the class described comprising a main frame, a removable frame associated therewith,- means for holding the removable frame in the main frame, and rollers supported on themain frame so as to be situated. one on each side thereof.
In combination, a main frame, a support for the main frame, castors mounted on the support, a removable frameassociated with the main frame, cross pieces on the upper end, of the malnframe, and'rollers situated one on each side of said main frame and supported on said cross pieces.
3. In combination, a main frame,a support for the main frame, casters mounted said main frame, a hood supported over said cross 1318068 and over the top of Stud frame, and rollers mounted in said hoodon said cross pieces, one on each side of said main frame.
In combination, a main frame sup porting beams attached to the lower corners of said main frame, castors on said sup porting, beams, a removable frame associated with said main frame. and braces attached to the main frame adjacent its upper end and to the supporting beams.
6. In combination, a main frame, a support for the main frame, castors mounted on the support. aremovable frame associated with the main frame, cross pieces on the upper. endof the main frame, and rollers situatedone on each side of said main frame and supported. on said cross pieces, a cable for operating each roller and a resilient pulley bracket for each cable for receiving the cable so as to keep it taut. V
'7. A display device comprising a main frame. a removable frame, associated therewith, a display curtain mounted so as to be seen through the removable frame for forming aback ground, and a roller for supporting the curtain. In testimony whereof I'aliis:mysignature.
