Description
July 9, 1929, v M, RIVIERE 1.720 440 FOLDING SAFETY RAZOR Filed March 2, 1928 A f/orkey Patented July 9, 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
MARIE-LOUIS RIVIERE, 0F PARIS, FRANCE.
FOLDING SAFETY RAZOR.
Application filed March 2, 1928, Serial No.
This invention relates to improvements in folding safety razors comprising a support or blade holder to which is pivoted a blade of suitable rigidity, which blade holder is hinged between the elastic branches of a fork mounted in its turn by means of a hinge joint on a suitable handle.
The invention relates more particularly to a blade guard positioned on the elastic branches of said fork to act as a guard for said blade when the razor is in closed position.
In the accompanying drawing which shows by way of example constructions of a razor embodying the improvements according to the invention Figure 1 is a view in folded position showing a blade guard bar applied to a razor with a flat handle. V
Figure 2 is an axial section of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail view of a section of Figure 1.
Figure 1 is a View of the razor in open position.
The razor comprises a thick blade 1 mounted by means of a pivot pin 2 on a blade holder. 3 hinged between the branches 1 of a fork 5, the holding of the blade holder 3 in suitable position being ensured by the clasticity of the branches a of the fork 5 and by suitable locking nipples. The fork 5 is in its turn pivoted between the branches of an elastic bracket or stirrup 6 constituting the handle.
In the construction shown in Figures 1 to 3, in which the handle is constituted by a flat stirrup or bracket, the edge/11 of the blade 1, in the closed or folded position shown in Figures 1 to 3, is covered by at protecting bar or blade guard 4-2 rigidly secured to one of the branches 4-3 of the stirrup 6 constituting the handle, by a suitable tiring member such as a rivet 45. At its opposite end, the bar 42 is provided with an elongated hole-46 (Figure 3) engaging over the shank of a rivet 4E7 secured to the second 258,568, and in France September 13, 1927.
In the closed position, the edge 41 of the blade 1 is protected from any external contact, thus avoiding any damage to the said edge as well as any danger of cutting, whilst on the other hand owing to the bar or blade guard 42 being mounted in a sliding manner on one 47 of its fixing organs, the stirrup 6 is given an elastic play during the operations of folding and unfolding the razor.
The bar 12 could be mounted so as to slide at both its ends, and this bar could have any desired shape and be provided with any decoration or inscription.
What I claim is:
1. A safety razor of the folding type comprising a thick razor blade having a cutting edge, a blade holder having said razor blade pivotally mounted thereon, an elastic fork pivotally supporting said blade holder, an elastic stirrup comprising branches pivotally supporting said elastic fork and a blade guard slidably mounted on the branches of said elastic stirrup adjacent said cutting edge of said razor blade when the razor is folded.
2. A safety razor of the folding type comprising a thick razor blade having a cutting edge, a blade holder having said razor blade pivotally mountedthercon, an elastic fork pivot-ally supporting said blade holder, an elastic stirrup com prising branches pivotally supporting said elastic fork, a blade guard slidably mounted on the branches of said elastic stirrup adjacent said cutting edge of said razor blade when the razor is folded, fastening means for slidably mounting said blade guard. consisting of a rivet having a shank integral with a ln'a-nch of said. elastic stirrup and a slot at the end of said blade guard slidably engaging the shank of said rivet.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand at Paris this eleventh day of F ebruary 1928.
MARIE-LOUIS RIVIERE.
