" SAFETY Razon.
Application led April 20, 1922. Serial No. 555,744. f
y of which'the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a safety razor, Itsobject. is the production of a razor'that isrparticularly adapted for women shaving themselves beneath their arms, although it may be used in a manner similar to that of the ordinary safety razor now in use. A second yobject of the invention is the production of a razor that can be safely employed to shave hollow or concaved surfaces. A
' third object of the invention is the production of a razor that will curve a straight blade when located in place in the razor, and which will remainv curved when in use.
The organization of the invention comprises a longitudinally lconvexed blade platform and a longitudinally concaved bending and locking member. A straight blade is detachably connected to the locking member,-
and when the'latter is locked to the platform the blade is longitudinally curved to conform to the adjacent faces of the platform and locking member. Lugsare formed with the platform and also withv the locking mem ber to cover the ends of the cutting edge.
of the blade, to avoid injury when shaving the arm pits of a userY or other concaved surfaces.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 represents aside elevation of an exemplifcation of the improved safety razor; Fig. 2 shows a top plan view of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 indicates an enlarged view similar to Fig. 1 and an enlarged section as on theV line .3, 3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 represents an enlarged front view of therazor withthe members thereof in their open position; Fig. 5 is `a section o f 4 on the linev 5, 5 and Fig. 6 shows platform has formed therewithv hinged to the platform 21 by means of the hinge 31. The member 30 has formed at its upper edge the flange .3 2 and its swinging end is provided with the locking latch 33. Protecting lugs 34 are formed at the lower corners of the member 30 and gripping lugs 35 extend from the inner face thereof. The
flat cutting blade 36 is indicated with the cutting edge 37, theside edges 38, thelower corners 39 and the top edge 40.
To locate the blade 36 in operative position it is placed upon the concaved face ofy the member 30 with its side edges 38 snapped under the gripping lugs 35 and the lower corners 39 over the protecting lugs 34.
The bending and locking member 30 is now swung with the blade' 36 upon the curved platform 21 and the locking latch 33 is locked in the latch opening 24, and the blade 36 will automatically be curved to conform to the surfaces of the platform 21 and the locking member 30. The corners 39 of thel blade 36 will be securely covered by the protectingllugs 23 of the platform 21 and the protecting lugs 34 of the locking member 30. The gripping lugs will be seated in the depressions 25.
In Fig. 6 a blade bending and locking member is indicated -at 45 with a' pair of locking latches 46 similar to 33, which engages latch openin s similar to 24 in the curved platform 4 Protecting lugs 48 vsimilar to 34 are provided for the member 45.
The lower edge of the platform 47l is devoid of teeth as shown and its hinge is also dispensed with. The blade is indicated at 50 and its corners are fully covered and protected by the lower portion of the platform 47 and the lugs 48 of the locking member 45.
Various modifications may be made inthe invention and the present exemplification is lto be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my/ invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim is:
1. In a' safetyV razor the combination of a convex platform curved along its lon itudinal axis, a concave bending and loc ing member curved along, its longitudinal axis adapted to be locked to said platform and a Ablade clamped between the convex face of the platform and concave face of said locking member, said blade lock-ing member provided with a-positioning yiange. on its upper edge and having over hanging gripping lugs to hold the blade in an initially flexed position prior to its locking engagement with ythe platform.
2. In a safety razor the combination of a blade platform curved along its longitudinal axis, a handle extending from the platform, a blade bending and locking member curved along its longitudinal axis, pivoted to and adapted to be locked with said platform, a blade initially flexed and locked to the locking member, when the latter is yunlocked from the said platform and means to lock the locking member to the said platform, said blade being fully flexed when said locking member is locked to said platform and securely held between said elements.
3. In a safety razor the combination of a convex platform, a concave bending and locking member pivoted to said platform, means to detachably lock the locking member to the said platform, over hanging gripping lugs extending from the inner face of the locking member and depressions on the inner face of the platform for seating the gripping lugs when the blade bending and locking member `is locked to the platform and a straight blade initially flexed and secured to the looking 'member by means `of said gripping lugs, said blade fully bending to the contour of the adjacent faces of said platform and locking member when the latter elements are locked to each other.-
