Description

M. L. RIVIERE April .7, 1931.
SAFETY RAZOR Original Filed March 2, 1928 Fig.5
A 7 TOR/VL- Y Patented Apr. 7, 1931 PATENT OFFICE MARIE-LOUIS RIVIERE, or PARIS, FRANCE SAFETY RAZOR Original application This invention relates to improvements in The invention relates more particularly to a a construction of a folding safety razor with a protecting plate removably arranged above the edge of the blade so as to prevent any danger of cutting the operator of same.
In the accompanying drawing which shows by way of example constructions of a razor embodying the improvements according to the invention 7 Figures 1 and 2 are a rear elevation and a side view showing said razor in folded and operative position respectively. f
Figures 3 and 4 are a front elevation and a profile View respectively of an embodiment of the shield.
Figures 5 and 6 show on an enlarged scale, in two difierent positions, a section of the joint of the shield.
Figure 7 shows a modified construction of the said shield.
Figure 8 is a modified construction of Figures 5 and 6.
' As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the shield 28 is hinged with its foot 32 to lugs 33, each of which (Figures 3 and 4) is secured to a rod I 34 terminating in a head 35 on which acts a spring 36 which always tends to bring the shield 28 to the closed position shown in full lines in Figure 4 in which it covers the edge of the blade 1.
In the modified construction in Figure 8, the lugs '33 are rigidly secured to' the head 8 of the fork, and a spring 37 presses against the foot '32 of the shield 28 by means of a cap 38. y
In the modified construction of Figure7, the shield 28 has a projection or rib 39 which, in the folded position of the razor, rests on theteeth 40 of the safety razor guards, so that when'the blade holder 3 is turned be- 4 tween the branches 4 of the elastic fork 8 in What I claim is filed March 2, 1928, Seria1.No.1258,568, and. in France September 13, 1927. Divided and this application filed December 15, 1928. Serial No. 326,338.
1. A safety razor of the folding type comprising a thick razor blade having a cutting edge, a blade holder supporting said razor blade, an elastic fork pivotally sup porting said blade holder, a shield pivotally mounted with respect to said elastic fork adjacent said cutting edge of said razor blade when the razor is folded and moved into open position by said blade holder when the razor is opened, and resilient means adapted to resiliently hold said shield in closed and open positions. 2. A safety razor of the folding type comprising a thick razor blade having a cutting edge, an elastic fork pivotally supporting said razor blade, rods having heads slidably mounted in said elastic fork, a shield hinged to the ends of said rods adjacent said cutting edge of said razor bladewhen the razor is folded and springs encircling said rods abutting said heads and said elastic fork.
3. A safety razor of the folding type comprising a thick razor blade having a cutting edge, a blade holder supporting said razor blade, an elastic fork pivotally supporting said blade holder, a shield pivotally mounted with respect to said elastic fork adjacent said cutting edge ,of said razor blade when therazor is folded, a rib integral with'said shield abutting said blade holder when said razor is folded and moved into open position by said blade holder upon opening of said razor, and resilient means adapted to re- 'siliently hold saidshield in closed and open
