CLAMP Filed March 9, 1929 v INVENTOR. Feyraold f- /ank ATTORNEY.
Patented Aug. 2s, 1.936 V j 1 774 2 17 "entree STATES PATE l- REYNOLD n. HANKEQQFCEICAGO, ILLINOIS oneur Application filed March 9, 1929. Serial No. 345,713;
The invention relates to clamps, and more .Fig. 2 is a front view of a clamp on a picespecially to clamps adapted to be attached ture mould but omittingthe splash cloth.
to picture moulds and the like for the pur- The clamp proper is composed of a frame pose of supporting a so called splash cloth. 5, which preferably is made from a piece of 5 It is'a well known fact, that it is necessary flat, cold rolled steel, but any other suitable to protect the walls of a room during the material may be used if desired. In the drawvtime, that the ceiling thereof is being cleaned ings the frame is shown as having approxior redecorated. In order to do so, the so mately an S shape, but it is to be noted, that called splash cloth must be fastened in such any other suitable shape maybe given tothe 10 a manner, that it will be hanging down over frame without departing from the inven- 60 said walls, and for this purpose such cloth tion. I Y no v had to be fastened heretofore to the picture 7 On the upper horizontally extending pormould or any other convenient support by tion 6 of the frame a downwardly extending means of small nails. This way of fastening short tooth like'portion 7 is provided having '15 the splash cloth has a number of disadvana somewhat sharpened edge adapted to en- 65 suspended thereon.

I clamplng rod 12 has at its lower end a finger A further object of the invention is to pro-- hook 13 or the like and extends through the vide a clamp adapted to be removably attwo holes 10 andll. The upper end of said tached to a picturemould and at the same rod is formed into a dull point. As shown'in time to engage a splash cloth. 1 Fig. 1 the forming of said point is to beper so A still further object of the invention is to formed so, that the point will extend forprovide a clamp'ada-pted to. be attached to wardly and that the forward portion of the picture moulds of different sizes and dimenrod will practically form astraight line. At sions. the same time it is to be noted, that the two Other objects of'the invention not specifie registering holes 10 and 11, which act as S5 'cally mentioned may be easily ascertained 7 guides for said rod, are located so that said and understood from the following descrip-t straight front portion oftherod will be 10- 7 tion in connection with the drawings forincated practically in the same plane with the ing a part thereof. In order to do so, the edge of the cloth will be held just above the picture mould and then the clamp will be fastened to said mould by inserting the tooth like portion of the frame in the upper groove of said mould theerby forcing a part of the splash cloth into said groove, pulling at the same time the clamp rod downwardly by means of the finger hook and then let the spring 15 force 10 the rod upwardly whereby the dull point of the clamp rod will engage the splash cloth and a corner formed on the mould, thereby holding the splash cloth securely but removably in position. A plurality of clamps as described can be quickly ararnged to hold a splash cloth and can just as quickly be removed without injuring the surface of the picture mould or without piercing or tearing the splash cloth.
: Having described my invention and how the same is to be performed 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a device of the class described, a frame including a downwardly extending tooth like portion and two portions extending at right angles to said tooth like portion and parallel to each other, each of said parallel portions being provided with a hole, said holes registering with each other, a
so clamp rod extending through said registering holes and means for urging said clamp rod towards said tooth like portion.
2. In a device of the class described, a frame including a tooth like portion and two 35 portions extending parallel to each other and at right angles to said tooth like portion, each of said parallel portions having a hole therein and said two holes registering with each other, a clamp rod extending through said 40 two holes, said two holes being arranged so that the face of said rod is located approximately in the same plane with the face of the tooth like portion, means for urging the rod toward said tooth like portion,and means do on said rod for moving it away from the tooth like portion.
In witness whereof I afiix my signature.
