MILK-PAIL ATTACHMENT.
rammed-nay a, 1921.
Application filed April 30, 1920. Serial No. 377,884.
2" '0 all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, HENRY BLAIR, a c1t1- Zen of Canada residing at man Ardo, 1n the county of Monterey and State of California,
have invented certain new and useful improvements in Milk-Pail.Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled will allow the easy and quick removal and replacement of the brackets on the bucket when desired.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a milk pail attachment of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel-features of construction combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the fol lowing description and accompanying drawing, in which V Figure l is a vertical sectional view illustrating a bucket or pail with brackets applied thereto and constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view illustrating one of the brackets,
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view illustrating the curvature of one portion of the bracket so as to conform to the contour of the pail or bucket, 1
Fig. 4 is a perspective-view of an attaching. member,
Fig. 5 is a similar view illustrating a wedge member. Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a bucket or pail having the usual bead 2 at its upper edge and to which my invention is applied. My invention consists of a pair ofbracketsS that are detachably secured at opposite points to the upper edge of the bucket or pail and are adapted to rest on a persons legs while sitting so that the bucket or pail is supported between the knees and in a position to be milked into. 'Thebrackets 3 are identical in construction and reference to one is' thought suflicient for both. The bracket 3 consists of averticalportion t and a horizontal portion 5. 'The vertical portion 4' is curved toiconform to the contour: of the inner face of the bucket or pail and bears flatly against the same with the horizontal portion overlying the bead 2 and projecting beyond said bucket or pail so that it can rest easlly on a persons legs. The horizontal port1on'5 is provided with spaced slots 6 to receive the arms 7v of a substan,
tially iii-shape attaching member 8, the
bight portion, of which overlies the 'horizontal portion 5 of the bracket. The ends of the arms 7 are bent at right anglesto form bead engaging elements 9 that underlie the head 2 as clearly shown in the drawing. A
substantially U-shaped wedge member 10 has its arms 11 disposed in thesl'ots (ifor preventing the. arms 7' of the attaching member 8 from' slidingin the slots away from the bead 2 of the bucket or pail. The
bight portion of the wedge member 10 isbent upon. itself to form a loop 12 to which is attached one end of a flexible element 13;
The flexible element 13 has its other end attached to a staple or loop 14: secured to i the vertical portion 4:, so asto obviate the danger of the wedge member 1O from becoming detached or lostfrom the brackets during the use and non-use of the device. From the foregoing description taken in connection with-the accompanying drawing,
it will be noted that a device has been pro-" .vided which can be easily and quickly applied to a bucket or pail and also is capable of adjustments'o that it can beapplied to pails or buckets having different shaped v beads and of'different sizes. Also it is to be noted that the device can be easily and conveniently removed from the buckets or pails by simply removing the wedge'member and sliding the locking. member in the slots.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it
will be u r ood that minor changes in claimed.
Havlng thus descrlbed my invention, What is claimed is I 1. A milk pail attachment comprising a pair of brackets each including vertical and horizontal portions, said vertical portion engaging the pail on its inner face and having the horizontal portion overlying the head of the pail and projecting laterally thereof, said horizontal portions having spaced slots, a substantially U-shaped fastening member extending through said slots and having its ends bent at right angles to underlie the bead, and means extending through the slots for holding the ends of said fastening member in engagement With the bead.
2. A mills pail attachment comprising a pairof brackets each including vertical and horizontal portions, said horizontal portion havingspaced slots, a substantially U-shaped fastening member extending through said slots and having its ends bent at right angles to underlie the bead of a pail, and a substantially U-shaped Wedge member extending through said slots.
3. A milk pail attachment comprising a pair of brackets secured to the opposite sides of the pail and each including vertical and horizontal portions, said horizontal portion having spaced slots, a substantially U-shaped member extending through said slots and having its ends bent at right angles to underlie the head of the pail, a substantially U-shaped Wedge member extending through said slots and having its bight portion bent to form a loop, a flexible element connected to said loop, and a staple secured to the vertical portion and having the free end of the flexible element secured thereto.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses. l
