Be it known that I, LURI T seen, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of Michigun have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Silo Doors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

in important object of this invention 1s to provide a silo having means for supporting the doors whereby the same may be swung outwardly by a pivotal and sliding movement.

A further object of the invention is to provide a silo door of the character described which is cheap to manufacture, few in parts and desirable in use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates a silo having a plurality of door openings 11 in one side. The openings have their side walls lined with metallic strips 12 extending over the front edge portion of the openings. A. door 13 is adapted to be arranged within each opening 11, Brace members 15 are secured to the outer side of the door 13 adjacent their edges for strengthening the same and abut the outer side edges of the openings 11. The brace members 15 are surrounded by reinforcing strips to prevent the door from springing out of shape. secured to the brace members 15 and have their end portions 17 extending beyond the Transverse members 16 are 1 door 13. Each door 13 is provided with up per and lower transverse members 16 each of which is provided with hand held openings 18. The transverse members function as steps to permit one to climb up the side of the silo. One portion of each transverse member 16 is provided with an opening 19 receiving a vertical pivot pin 20. The pivot pin 20 is formed integral with a sleeve 21 slidably mounted on an outwardly extending horizontal shaft 22 which is rectangular in cross section. As indicated in Figure 2 each squared shaft 22 is extended through the side of the silo and is provided with a reduced threaded portion 23 having threaded engagement with nut 241- which serves to secure the shaft 22 in position. A washer 25 is arranged on the threaded portion 23 and is disposed between the nut 24 and the inner ide of the silo.
The pins 20 serve as pivot elements for the door, while the sleeve 21 formed integral with the pins 20 permits of the outward sliding movement of the door when desired.
The portions 17 are provided with slots 26 opening out through their ends. The slots 26 of the portions 17 of the pivoted ends of the members 16 receive relatively long screws 27 having nuts 28 arranged thereon. The rear end portions of the screws 27 extend through the side of the silo as indicated in Figure 3. The nuts 28 are adapted for drawing the silo door inwardly when desired. The screws 27 coact with a second set of screws 29 which extend through the ally connected to the anchoring members 32 by pivot pins 33 and are adapted to be inserted and removed through the grooves 26.
In use, the door is swung on the pivot pins and is tightly drawn within the openings by screwing up on the nuts 28 and 30. Packing 34 secured to the inner side of the door serves to exclude air from the interior of the silo and also prevents the escape of moisture. To release the silo door the bolts 28 and are unscrewed and the door is thereby permitted to partake of either a pivotal or an outward sliding movement.
lVhile I haveshown the preferred embodiment oi my invention, it is understood that such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts may be made as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. The combination with a silo having an opening and a door therefor, transverse members carried by the door and having their end portions extending beyond the door, shafts extending outwardly from the silo, pivot pins for certain of the end portions of said transverse members, said pivot pins having sleeves slidably mounted on said shafts, screw bolts carried by the silo and engaging the end portions of said transverse members, and nuts arranged on said screw bolts for drawing the door inwardly.
2. The combination set forth in claim 1, said end portions having slots opening out through their ends to receive said screw bolts.
3. Thecombination set forth in claim 1, the screw bolts along the free edge of the door being pivoted intermediate their ends and adapted for locking the free edge of the silo in position.
4. The combination with a silo having an opening therein, of a door for said opening, transverse members secured to the outer side of the door in superimposed relation and positioned as steps, lateral extensions carried by the transverse member and having slots opening out through their ends, screw bolts carried by the silo and extending through said slots, nuts arranged on said screw bolts and engaging said extensions, and means to slidably and pivotally support the door.
