Description

June 2, 1931.
J. RUFFING, SR
MINE CAR Filed Dec- 9. 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet l Inventor fizmm izw A llomey I Patented June 2, 1931 UNITED STATES JOHN mora ne, sn, or noKonIs, ILLVINOQIIS MINE GAB.
Application filed December 9, 1930. Serial No. 501,137.
The present invention relates to a mine car and has for its prime object to provide improved means for mounting panels on the side and end walls of the car.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a mine car of this nature with panels mounted on the walls thereof in an exceedingly simple and efficient manner.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section through a mine car showing one embodiment v of the invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal section through one end of the car taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical transverse section through another embodiment of the invention.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the angle sto Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the hinge leaves, and
Figure 6 is a vertical transverse section through a third embodiment of the 1nvention.
Referring to the drawingsin detail and F first to Figures 1 and 2 it will be seen that numerals 5 denote end walls and numerals 6 side walls. A panel 7 is hingedly mounted on each end wall 5. The hinge connection comprises leaves A and B- attached respectively to wall 5 and panel 7 The leaf A includes a flat strap 8 with a head 9 formed on one end thereof having a pintle 10 extending laterally therefrom. The leaf B comprises a head 11 having a bore to receive.
the pintle 10 and formed on a flat strap 12. Panels 14 are secured to the side walls 6 in upward extension thereof by means of straight one-piece flat straps 15.
In Figure 3 panel 7 is mounted on end wall 5 by the same hinge connection as was described incident to the first embodiment. On the interior of the end'wall 5 there is mounted angle stops 17 to the inside of the hinges and below the axes thereof, and the side walls 6 have mounted thereon similar stop brackets 17 on which may rest the panel 7 when swung inwardly. The panels 14 are mounted on the side walls 6" by the same hinge connections as heretofore de-' scribed in detail and may be swung inwardly to rest on the brackets 17. In connection with the hinges it is pointed out-that the axes thereof are located immediately below the upper edges of the walls 5 and 6 so that the panels cannot be swung outwardly from vertical position.
In Figure 6 it will be seen that I have mounted on the walls 5a and 6a panels and 14a respectively by means of straight flat straps 20 so that these panels are rigid with respect to their walls. 1
It is apparent, however, that the details of construction may be changed without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In a mine car including side walls and end walls, panels mounted above the walls by means of flat like straps.
2. In a mine car including side walls and end walls, panels mounted above the walls by means of flat like straps, said flat like straps being formed in sections hingedly connected together.
3. In a mine car including side walls and end walls, panels mounted above the walls by means of flat like straps, said fiat like straps being formed in sections having heads at their inner ends alongside of each other and one head having a pintle extending through an opening in the adjacent head.
4. In a mine carincluding side walls and end walls, panels mounted above the walls by means of flat like straps, said flat like straps being formed in sections having heads at their inner ends alongside of each other and one head having a pintle extending through an opening in the adjacent head, angular stop brackets on the walls against which the panels may rest when swung inwardly.
5. In a mine car including side walls and end walls panels mounted above the 5 walls by means of flat like straps, said flat like straps being formed in section having heads at their innerends alongside of'each otherand one head having'a pintleextending through an opening in the adjacent 10 head, angular stop brackets on the walls against which the panels may rest when swung inwardly, the axes of the pintlesloeing located immediately below the upper ed es of the walls. V in testimony whereof I afiix my si nature.
JOHN RUFFIN, SR.
