UNITED, STATES DUM'PCENDEGATEU a Be it know'n' that I, HIRAM a citizen of the United States',"residing at Alexandria, in the county of Clark and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Dump End Gate,jof which the following is a specification? i This invention relates to end-gates for wagon bodies or the like, and more particularly to end-gates of the scoop type.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an end-gate of the combined scoop and dump type, novel means being provided for securing the gate in its open and closed positions.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings v Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an end-gate constructed in accordance with the present invention, a portion of a wagon body being shown.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2. I
Figure 4 is a rear elevational view of the gate in a closed position.
Figure 5 is a side elevational view showing the gate in an open position.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the wagon body to which the gate is attached, is indicated by the reference character 5 and is formed with end boards 6 secured to the wagon body and disposed in spaced relation with the side boards thereof.
The end-gate embodies side plate 7 which have portions thereof extending at right angles to form supports 8 for the end board 9 of the end-gate. Securing members 10 secure the end board 9 to the right angled portions 8 of these plates, the securing mem bers 10 also passing through the bars 11 which connect the right angled portion 8 at points adjacent to the upper and lower ends thereof.
As shown, the end wall 9 terminates at a point in spaced relation at the lower ends of the plates 7 to provide an opening for alwagon', body fthro'ugh the opening; A 010- is urefindicated at} .121is hingedlyfconnected tofth e 'barlll I fineans of the hinges 13,
whereby the opening may be closed to sp t;- y i i m te Pastime f m th W QnldQdy "to which the'end gate is supplied;
to [be 5 under the J Secured to the closure 12 is a bar 14: on
which are mounted keepers 15, the keepers being secured to the bar 14 as by means of securing bolt 16, which are shown as passing through registering openings in the body portions of the keepers, and bar 14.
These keepers 15 have their free ends extended beyond the outer surfaces of the side plates 7, where the same are formed with plate 7 and formed with elongated openings 8-to accommodate the pins 7 At the outer end of each of the bars 20 is a relatively short pivoted bar 21 which has pivotal connection with the bar 20 associated therewith, and as shown, each of these bars '21 is formed with an opening to accommodate one end of a rod 22.
The free end of each of the rods 22 is formed with a curved portion 23 operating through a keeper 24 associated therewith. the keepers 24: being however secured to the outer surfaces of the plate 7, in any suitable manner. Thus it will be seen that the curved portions 23 of the rods 22 may engage with the keepers 24: to support the endgate proper in a position as indicated by Figure 5 of the drawings, whereupon the end-gate may be used by a person scooping and 21 are the hook members 25, which also assist in supporting the end-gate in a position as shown by Figure 5 of the drawings,
the hook members 25 being constructed to contact with one edge of the end boards 6.
Supporting brackets 26 are also secured to the side plates 7 and accommodate portions supporting means comprising pivoted bars having connection with the side plates, 'hook 151 member pivotally connected to the bars at the iipper ends thereof, bars having pivotal connection with the hook members, bracket members secured to the plates, rods havingconnection with the last mentionedbars and having curved portions for engagement with 20 the keepers, and said rods and bars adapted to secure the endgatein its open and closed position. 7 V a In testimony that l claim, the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixedmy signa- 25 turein thepresence of two witnesses. p i HIRAM D.
