Description

A. KRAKOWIECKA v HAIR CURLER Filed Feb. 9, 1922 Argy e Kmkn W n 1% wg/jj ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 11, 1924.
Q @TATES FAFEEWT HAIR GURLER.
Application filed February 9, 1922. Serial No. 535,322.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ANNIE KRAKOWIEGKA, a citizen of Poland, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Curlers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hair dressing apparatus, particularly such as is employed to give the hair a wavy form as for instance hair crimpers, curlers or the like.
It is the principal object of the invention to provide an apparatus of this character it which is extremely simple and inexpensive in its construction, which can be quickly attached and conveniently worn to produce a lasting wave in the hair.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a device of this character which will dispense with separate locking devices and which will automatically look over a strand of hair wound around its bars.
These and other objects of my invention will become more fully apparent as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved device constructed according to the present invention, closed.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same, closed.
Figure 3 is a side view of the device open;
Figure 4 illustrates the application of my device in practice.
Figure 5 shows the diverging ends of the crimp bars.
The crimper comprises a frame composed of the longitudinal bars or rods 10 and 11 made in one piece of a metal blank bent upon itself at its restricted part 12,
The opposite free ends of the rods 10 and I 11 are bent so as to provide the curved parts 13 and 14 and straight portions 15 and 16.
A pin 17 is passed transversely through the straight portions 15 and 16 and between these portions a pair of bars 18 and 19 are pivotally secured to pin 17.
The bars 18 and 19 are diverging from a point 20 in approximate their center so that their outer free ends are spaced as indicated at 21.
In Figure 1 the device is illustrated in its operating position in which a strand of hair 22 is closely wound over, partly around and between the bars 19 and 18 in the form of a figure 8 and when the winding is completed, the bars are swung around the pivot between rods 10 and 11 so that their spaced ends are squeezed together into the narrow space formed by the restricted part 12 for automatically holding the bars 18 and 19 in this locked position by the frictional contact of the outer walls of bars 18 and 19 with the inner Walls of the restricted part 12 due to the tendency of the bars 18 and 19 to spread apart to form space 21.
It will be clear that the construction to shown may be modified in various Ways without deviating from the principle and scope of my invention.
What I claim is A hair curler, comprising an open frame, a pair of bars pivotally supported at one end on the frame and adapted to extend longitudinally of the frame, said frame being formed at one end with an offset recess to house the free ends of the bars, said bars as normally projecting beyond their pivotal support in contact for a portion of their length and being inherently divergent beyoaid said point of contact toward their free en s.
In testimony whereof I have afifixed my signature.
ANNIE KRAKOWIECKA.
