Description

G. c. LEWlS HAIR CURLER Filed Aug. 31 1922 lNVENTOR ATTORN EY Patented duly 311, l23.
HAIR CUFJLER.
Application filed August Bl, 1922. Serial ito. 585,519.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Grouch G. Lewis, a citizen of United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful improvements in Hair Curlers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hair curlers, and is particularly designed and adapted for curling the ends of bobbed hair.-
Qne ot'the principal objects of the invention is to produce a device of this nature which shall be of simple construction, cheap to manufacture, and highly etlicient for the purpose for which it is designed.
Another object is to produce a hair curler which will grip the hair very close to the end of the hair and which after being rolled up toward the head to the desired distance may be secured against unrolling, whereby the entire end of the hair may be curled as is necessary with bobbed hair, and as may be done with a hot iron.
With these and other objects in view which will become more apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features or construction and combination and arran ement of parts, the essential features of w ich are hereinafter fully described, areparticularly pointed out in the appended claims and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved hair curler.
Fig. 2 is an elevation view showing the curler as at first attached to the hair.
Fig.3 shows the curler in its finally attached form.
Figure lis a longitudinal sectional view or" the device.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in all of the views.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 10 represents a cigar-shaped piece of wood or the like which forms the principal member of the device and about which the hair is to be curled. this end of the member 10 is formed with a slot 11, in which slot, the bight 12 of a wire bail 13 is entered. this bail-13 has its free end closed by a comparatively broad lug or lump ll of solder or the like so that the two sides of the hell are.
till
free end of the elastic strip 15 carries a ring 17.
In use, the hair is first clamped to the member 10 by the bail 13 in the manner shown in Figure 2, and it will be seen that in this way the hair may be gripped very close to the end. The device is then turned over and over until as much hair as is desired is rolled up on the curler, and then the elastic band is stretched along the side of member 10 and the ring 17 is put over the ends of members 10 and 13 so as to hold them together and so as to hold the band tautly drawn.
While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth, nor to anything less than the whole of my invention as set forth in the appended claims.
1. A hair curler comprising a cigar-shaped body portion, a bail pivotally secured thereto, and a length of elastic material also secured to said body portion.
2. A hair curler comprisinga cigar-shaped body portion, a bail pivotally secured thereto, and a length of elastic material also se .cured to said body portion and a ring secared to said elastic material. v/ In testimony whereof ll afix my signature.
