Description

Dec. 27, 1955 M LEST 2,78,347
HAIR ROLLER Filed NOV. 15, 1952 INVENTOR. N MAR/A LUISA LESTE- United States Patent O HAIR ROLLER Maria Luisa Lest, Florencio Varela, Argentina Application November 15, 1952, Serial No. 320,74
2 Claims. (Cl. 132-55) My present invention refers to an improved ladys hair dressing accessory consisting of a hair roller of the type comprising a substantially cylindrical body of fibrous material for rolling therearound the users hair and means for supporting and fixing in place said body with the hair rolled around the same in such a manner that the so formed hair roll remains attached closely to the scalp and said body is substantially concealed within the ladys dressed hair.
The main object of my invention is to provide an improved hair roller of the type referred to, wherein a strip of flexible shape-retaining metal supporting the cylindrical body of fibrous material and projecting beyond both ends thereof is provided with articulated clamp members so arranged and constructed that the hair roll may be duly fixed in place by simply swinging said clamps inwardly into engagement with said cylindrical body.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved hair roller of the type referred to, wherein the projecting end portions of the said flexible shape-retaining metal strip are provided with stop members for preventing the cylindrical body of fibrous material from sliding along said metal strip, for hiding the hinges by means of which the clamp members are articulated to said metal strip and for limiting the outward movement of said clamp members.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an improved hair roller of the type referred to, wherein the said clamp members are made of sheet metal and provided with teeth for engaging the cylindrical body and the users hair rolled around the same and for firmly retaining the hair roller in its desired position.
With these objects and advantageous features in view, the present invention comprises the novel arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing whereon a preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated by way of example only and whereon:
Figure 1 is an elevational view showing the improved hair roller seen from its rear side;
Figure 2 is a similar view of the same roller taken at right angles to the view of Fig. 1.
Having reference to the accompanying drawing, the improved hair roller according to the present invention comprises a narrow strip 1 of flexible shape-retaining metal which acts as supporting means for a substantially cylindrical body of fibrous material 2 and projects beyond both ends of this body.
Each of the projecting ends 3 of the strip 1 carries a stop means 3 secured thereto in any suitable known manner so that it prevents the body 2 from sliding along said strip, while the rectangular cross section of the latter prevents said body from rotating thereon.
The stop members 3 constituted, for instance, -by cres` cent-shaped buttons or the like at the same time act as lids for hiding the hinges 4 formed at the ends of the strip 1 for pivotally connecting thereto a pair of clamps 5 of sheet metal, preferably in the form of a triangle as shown. These clamps 5 are slightly curved and provided with small teeth 6 conveniently formed by stamping and bending outwardly small triangular portions of the metal sheet of said clamps. These clamps 5 are so arranged that they may be turned inwardly underneath the cylindrical body 2, in which position the teeth 6 engage the material of said body. The buttons 3 advantageously are so arranged that, when the clamps 5 are swung outwardly, the latter are prevented from swinging beyond the position as shown at the right end of Fig. 2.
For using the device, both clamps 5 are swung outwardly. Thereafter the hair is rolled around the cylindrical body 2 in such a manner that the so formed hair roll becomes situated adjacent the users head. Now the strip 1 is bent so that it it becomes adjusted to the natural form of the respective part of the users head and thereafter the clamps 5 are swung inwardly underneath the hair roll and pressed against the latter so that their teeth 6 engage both the users hair and the fibrous material of the body 2, whereby the hair roll is fixed and retained in its desired position.
It will be understood that the present invention is by no means restricted to the embodiment as described and shown, but that amendments and alterations may be made therein, and that such amendments and alterations are to be considered as falling within the scope of the invention as clearly defined and set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. As a ladys hair dressing accessory, a hair roller for forming a hair roll and for being substantially concealed within the ladys dressed hair, comprising a substantially cylindrical body of soft fibrous material for rolling therearound the users hair; a narrow strip of rectangular cross section of flexible shape-retaining metal extending axially through said cylindrical body and beyond both ends thereof for supporting the same; button-like stop members secured to the front side of the projecting end portions of said strip for preventing said body from sliding along the same; a hinge provided at each end of said strip and a slightly curved clamp member of sheet metal pivotally connected by said hinge to each end of said strip and capable of being lsjwung inwardly into engagement with said cylindrical ody.
2. As a ladys hair dressing accessory, a hair roller for forming a hair roll and for being substantially concealed within the ladys dressed hair, comprising a substantially cylindrical body of soft fibrous material for rolling therearound the users hair; a narrow strip of rectangular cross section of flexible shape-retaining metal extending axially through said cylindrical body and beyond both ends thereof for supporting the same; button-like stop members secured to the front side of the projecting end portions of said strip for preventing said body from sliding along the same; a hinge provided at each end of said strip and a slightly curved toothed clamp member of sheet metal pivotally connected by said hinge to each end of said strip and capable of being swung inwardly and of engaging said cylindrical body by means of the teeth provided thereon.
