Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1220,4397, dated August 13, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it kDOWIl that I, THOMAS B. HIoK, of New Haven, in the county of Gallatin and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Ohill-Tonic and I ,do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the construction of the same.
My invention has relation to medical compounds; and consists in a novel combination of medical ingredients to form a liniment, in the manner and for the purposes hereinafter specified.
My liniment is compounded as follows: I take of the oil of cajeput three ounces; and of the oil of origanum three ounces; of the. oil of turpentine, oil of sassafras, tincture of opium, tincture of catechu, tincture guaiac, tincture of capsicum, andhartshorn, each,'one and threefifths ounce. To these I add of sulphuric ether and chloroform each two ounces; of the oil of absinthe one and one-half ounce of the balsam of fir one-third of an ounce; of camphor two ounces; and of alcohol one gallon.
When the above named ingredients are thoroughly mixed I add to them cochineal in sufficient quantity to give the medicine a brightred color. I then bottle up the liniment, and it is ready for use.
My liniment is useful for sprains, bruises, burns, scalds, sorethroat, rheumatism, neuralgia, lumbago, and other like human ailments. It is also valuable for many diseases of domestie animals.
I recommend that this liniment be applied by rubbing with the hand thoroughly over the parts affected.
I claim as my invention-- The combination of the ingredients herein mentioned to form a liniment, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two Witnesses.
