OLIVER F. BROWN, OF LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO A. FARRA, OF SAME PLACE.
LINIMENT.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 415,020, dated November 12, 1889.
Application filed July 15, 1889. Serial No. 317,586. (No specimens.) I
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER F. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lexington, in the county of Fayette and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Liniments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to that class of medical compounds which are designed for external application for the relief of pain, for reducing swelling and inflammation caused by r5 bruises, sprains, fractures, &c.; and its object is to provide a compound suitable for all emergencies to which liniment is adapted, and particularly for the treatment of live stock.
2'0 To this end my invention consists in a medical compound which is composed of the following ingredients: tincture of aconite, (radix,) two ounces; tincture of belladonna, two ounces; tincture of opium, two ounces;
chloroform, two ounces; spirits of camphor, one ounce; spirits of turpentine, one ounce; oil of Sassafras, two ouncesmaking in all twelve ounces of liniment. A statement of the various uses to which it is applicable and directions for its application would accom- 3o pany it in Whatever form of bottles it may be sold. I will, however, state that this liniment is for external application, and should never be used internally. It may be applied full strength upon ringbone, splint, swellings, or 5 old wounds; but for fresh woundssuch as cuts, bruises, or chafed places-and particularly when applied on a cloth or bandage, it should be diluted with five times its volume of water. Having thus fully described my invention, What I believe to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is the following:
A medical compound consisting of the following ingredients: tincture of aconite, tincture of belladonna, tincture of opium, chloroform, spirits of camphor, spirits of turpentine, and oil of sassafras, combined in substantially the proportions described.
