This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shoeniakers jacks and has particular reference to a-lasting stand wherein the shoe last is locked in position on thepost of. the lasting stand to be securely retained in positionagainst accidental displacement,

intheprovision ofa shoemakers jack lasting stand wherein manually operable latch devices are carried by the, post of the jack for interlocking engagement with the shoe to secure the same in position, the locking device being manually operable to permit the removal of the shoe last. I

- 'With the above general objects in view view of a shoemakers jack constructed in accordance with the present invention, there being illustrated a curved ack post mounted upon a part of a shoe machine,

A modified form of the invention is shown in Figfivwherein the last post 2 is constructed independently of a machine mounting for positioning on the floor or other support, the same being provided upon its upper end with a head 17 having an extension 18 With the latch devices 10' carried thereby'for engagement with the last in the mannerde to any particular mounting for the post of the lasting jack, as the novelty strictly resides in the construction of the post head and the latch device associated therewith for re taining a shoe last in position thereon, and while there are herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. I

What is claimed as new is A lasting jack comprising a-post, a head carried thereby, an extension carried by said head, said head and extension having laterally offset slots formed in opposite Walls thereof and opening at the opposite sides of the head, tensioned latch levers pivotally mounted in the post head, operating handles for the latch levers extending laterally of the post head, latch heads carried by said levers extending laterally of the head extension, and a last mounted on said head extension and having keeper sockets therein for the latch heads.
