UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE FELIX \VOOD, OF .CLAREMONT, NEWV HAMPSHIRE.
LASTlNG-JACK SU PPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 423,534, dated March is, 1890.
Application filed July 23, 1889. Serial No. 318,405. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FELIX W001), a citizen of the United States, residing at Olareinont, in the county of Sullivan and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful The inventionrelates to lasting-jack sup ports employed in the manufacture of boots and shoes. It will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim. I
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view of the lasting-jack; Fig. 2, a detail view of the bench with its end piece containing the pins, and Fig. 3 a similar view of the former.
In the drawings, A represents the Wooden bench, and through this extends-a bolt B, on which works the lever-nut O. The bolt also passes through a longitudinal piece D, which connects two angular movable keepers E E,
whose ends pass through the guides a a on the sides of the bench. Through these keepers E E and on the. bench slides the wooden former E, which is bifurcated so as to straddle the bolt B with its arms f f, and thereby be guided in its movements. In each of the arms ff is a hole which receives the pins g g,
projecting from the end plate g of the bench. In each of these arms is also formed a shoulder, against which one end of the spring abut-s.
The former F is rabbeted at f to receive the metallic plate L, and the springs are protected by the metallic box M, which also serves as a guide to the former. The latter is pushed down on the springs, so as to pro-.
ject a greater or less extent from the bench, according to the length of the boot or shoe, and this is done by means of the frame D E,
which is forced down by the screw-bolt and former F, and end plate G, carrying the pins g g, with springs thereon, all substantially .as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FELIX WOOD. Witnesses:
LYNN W. BUCK, WILLIAM J. PORELL.
