CLOSET-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 5, 1915. Serial No. 12,305.
T0 all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY WHEARY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Visconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements iin Closet-Fixtures, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this speciiication. e
This invention relates to improvements in closet fixtures for suspending garments thereon.
It is of material benefit to the traveling public to find garment hangers in the closets of the rooms of hotels so that they can drape and suspend their garments thereon. Heretofore the hangers were hung upon ordinary clothes hooks and often the hangers would surreptitiously disappear and the hotel management would be under the expense ofl replenishing the supply from time to time.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to overcome the before mentioned objectionable features and provide a closet fixture adapted to have hangers mounted thereon which may be easily moved to drape garments thereon or removed therefrom without permitting the hangers being surreptitiously removed from the fixture.
A further object of the invention is to provide a closet fixture having means where# by the hangers mayA be easily removed by unlocking a portion of the fixture.
A further object of the invention is to provide a closet ,fixture which is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted for the purpose described.
A further object of the invention is to provide a closet fixture having extensible track ends which may be swung into alined positions to permit the hangers being separated to easily remove or replace garments thereon.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the improved closet fixture and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicatev the same parts in all of the views:
Figure 1 is a top view of complete fixture, a part beingin section; Fig. 2 is a front view thereof; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional detail view, on a larger scale, of one of the side tracks and a portion of a hanger; Fig. 11 is a sectional detail view of a modified form of locking means; and Fig. 5 is an end view thereof.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 8 indicates a support and 9 the improved closet fixture mounted thereon. The iixture comprises the rear securing plate 10 having forwardly projecting rods which form parallel tracks 11 upon which eyed garment hangers 12 are slidably mounted. The tracks are round in cross section and are firmly rivete'dto the rear plate and at their forward ends are provided with hinged extension tracks 11 which may be swung horizontally from outer positions alined with fixed tracks to inner positions extending toward each other and at right angles to the fixed tracks. The extension tracks are also round in cross section and the garment hangers 12 are provided with eyes or openings 13 adjacent their ends through which the tracks extend.
The outer end of one of the extensible' tracks is provided with an opening 14k to receive the loop 15 of a padlock 16. A key 17 controlsthe removal of the lock. As the lock is -of larger size than the diameter of the openings the portions of the hangers surrounding the track cannot be slid off the end thereof while the lock is in position. The outer end of the opposite track is provided with an upstanding stop knob 17 to prevent the removal of the opposite ends of the hangers when said hangers are in alined position. The openings of the hangers through which the track having the stop knob extends are elongated in a direction at right angles to theknob as indicated by the numeral 18 so that when the opposite ends of the hangers are locked to the other track they cannot be removed from the track with the knob,` but when released from the locked track they may be swung upwardly to vertical position to aline the extension openingl with the knob and slid off the track.
In the modified form shown in Figs. l
' and 5 the transverse lock opening is omitted in the extensible rail 112 and in lieu thereof the end is of tubular form and a barrel lock 19 enters the bore of the rod and is locked Patented Nov. as, i916.
to the grooved portion thereof. An enlargement 2 0 formed on the outer end of the lock prevents the removal of the hangers. The rear plate l0 is fastened to a support by screws 10 or other fastening means.
In use the extensible tracks are swung into alinement with their respective fixed tracks to provide sufficient space to separate the hangers and permit the removal of the garments therefrom. The extensionable tracks also serve when in closed position to prevent the hangers working outwardly.
While the fixture has been described as a closet fixture and more particularly adapted for use in hotels it is to be understood the fixture is also useful in private houses and other places than closets.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the closet fixture is well adapted for the purpose described.
Vhat I claim as my invention is:
l. A closet fixture, comprising a securing` member having tracks in spaced relation projecting outwardly therefrom, garment hangers having eyed portions through which the tracks extend, one of said tracks having means for preventing the removal of hangers therefrom except when the hangers are turned in a certain direction, and locking means at the outer end portion of the other track for preventing the surreptitious removal of the hangers from said last mentioned track.
2. A closet fixture, comprising a securing member having fixed tracks in spaced relation projecting outwardly therefrom, extension tracks hinged to the outer ends of the fixed tracks, garment hangers having eyed portions through which the tracks extend, one of said extension tracks having a stop projection for preventing the removal of the garment hangers therefrom except when turned in a certain direction, and locking means at the outer end portion of the other track extension for preventing the surreptitious removal of the hangers from said last mentioned trackvextension. y v
3. A closet fixture, comprising a securing member having tracks in spaced relation `projecting outwardly therefrom, one of said tracks provided with a stop projection adjacent its outer end and the outer end of the other track having a lock opening, garment hangers having eyed portions through which the tracks extend, the portions of the hangers mounted on the track with the stop projection having extension openings to 'permit the removal of the hangers from the tracks when said hangers disengage the other track and are swung to a position away therefrom, and a locking member entering tlie opening of the said other track for preventing the surreptitious removal of the hangers from the tracks.
4. A closet fixture, comprising a securing member having fixed tracks in spaced relation projecting therefrom, extension tracks hinged to the outer ends of the fixed tracks, one of said extension tracks provided with a stop projection adjacent its outer end and the outer end of the other extension track having a lock opening, garment hangers having eyed portions through which the' tracks extend, the portions of the hangers mounted on the track with the stop projections having extension openings to permit the removal of the hangers from the tracks when said hangers disengage the other track and are swung to a position away therefrom,
and a locking member entering the opening 8O GEORGE HENRY VHEARY.
