WARDROBE-HANGER DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 9, 1918.
Application filed June 8, 1914. Serial No. 843,689.
To all whom 2'23 may concern: 7
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. lVnEAnY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wardrobe- Hanger Devices, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wardrobe hanger devices.
In dwelling houses or other places of abode the wardrobe closets are usually provided with ordinary clothes hooks which are fastened to the side walls of the rooms. Garments, mounted on hangers provided with central hooks are usually supported from the clothes hooks and as the clothes hooks are placed comparatively close together the garments on the hooks necessarily overlap one another and it is impossible to remove some of the garments without first removing the hangers positioned in front of the garments it is desired to remove. A further objectionable feature of the ordinary closet arrangement for supporting clothes is that while the closet is comparatively large with relation to the number of garments usually supported therein, the space is not used to the best advantage and consequently is wasted.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to overcome the before mentioned objectionable feature and provide a wardrobe hanger device which may be secured to one of the side walls or to the inner side of the door of a closet and which is adapted to support, comparatively, a large number of garment hangers in such a manner as to permit the convenient removal of any garment from its hanger without removing any of the other hangers or garments supported thereon.
A further object of the invention is to provide a wardrobe hanger device which may be easily removed or replaced in position and which occupies but a -minimum amount of space when in use. 7
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger device which is adapted to support garment hangers thereon of the double hook type now in use in wardrobe trunks of the better class whereby garment hangers may be interchangeably used in a trunk or in connection with the improved hanger device.
A further object of the'invention is to providea wardrobe hanger device in which the garment hanger tracks thereof are provided with extensible ends which while normally in a closed garment holdingposition may be swung to positions in longitudinal alinement with the hanger tracks to permit garment hangers. mounted thereon to be moved outwardly upon the extensible ends to positions of easy accessibility.
Afurther object of the invention is to provide a wardrobe hanger devicewhich is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted for the purpose described.
l/Vith the above and other object in view, the invention consists of the improvedwardrobe hanger device and its parts and com binations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in allof the views:
Figure 1 is a top view of the improved wardrobe hanger device shown attached to a wall or other support and having garment hangers mounted thereon;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof taken on line 22 of Fig. 1; and,
Fig. 3 is a detail view, of a part of the device.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 5 indicates a wall of a closet or other support to which the improved wardrobe hanger device 6 is connected. The device comprises a rectangular U-shaped metal strip member 7 having extensions 8 hinged to the outer ends of the side or track portions 9 of the device. The hinge connections at the outer ends of the track portions 9 are provided with stop portions 11 which serve to limit the outward swing of the extensions to longitudinal alinement with their respective track portions;
The rear or securing portion 12 of the U-shaped member is provided with attaching notches or recesses 13'which are engaged by the annular recessed portions 14 of the heads of the holding screws 15. The annular recesses 14: of the screws are of a size to snugly fit the recessed portions of the rear 0r securing portion of the device and securely and removably fasten the device to the wall. The screws are provided with pro jecting portions 16 for convenience in turning the screws into the support.
Garment hangers 17, having hooked ends 18 which extend over the tracks, are adapted to be used in connection with the device.
The outer end portions of'the extensible tracks are provided with upstanding stop pins 19 which are adapted to prevent the garment hangers from accidentally sliding off the outer ends of the extensible tracks.
In use garments are draped over the hangers and the hangers are slidably mounted on the track portions of the device and the extensible track ends are swung inwardly to closed position. In this position the hangers will be held by the extensible ends in position on the tracks. If it is now desired to remove or replace any ofthe garments the extensible tracks may be swung outwardly and some of the hangers slid thereon to provide more space between the garments. The hanger, supporting the particular garment it is desired to remove, may
then be easily tilted upward and removed,
from the tracks and the garment removed therefrom.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the wardrobe hanger device is of simpleconstruction and is well adapted to support a large number of garments in, comparatively, a small space.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A wardrobe hanger device, comprising a one piece rigid U-shaped member formed of a flat strip metal, the side arms of said member forming parallel track portions for supporting the opposite ends of garment hangers thereon and the rear part of said member forming a rear attaching portion provided with elongated edge recesses, and means having recessed portions which are engaged by the recessed portions of the U- shaped member for freely removably connecting the said member to a support in spaced relation.
2. A wardrobe hanger device, comprising a 'U-shaped member having parallel track portions for supporting the opposite ends of garment hangers thereon and also having a rear attaching portion provided With elongated recesses, foldable extension tracks hinged to the outer ends of the parallel track portions, and means having recessed portions which are engaged by the recessed portions of the U-shaped member for freely removably connecting the said member to a support in spaced relation.
3. A wardrobe hanger device, comprising a one piece rigid U-shaped member formed of flat strip metal, the side arms of said member forming parallel track portions for supporting the opposite ends of garment hangers thereon and the rear part of said member forming a rear attaching portion provided with elongated edge recesses, and threaded members having annularly recessed portions which are engaged by the recessed portions of the U-shaped member for freely removably connecting the said member to a support in spaced relation.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
