ARTHUR H. LEI-IMAN, DE LAS ANIMAS, COLORADO.
COMBINED MATCH-SAFE AND ASH IJRAY.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR H. LEHMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Las Animas, in the county of Bent and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Match-Safes and AshTrays, of which the following is a specification. Z
The invention relates to match boxes, and has for an object to provide a combined pocket match safe and ash tray.
he invention contemplates, among other features, the provisionof a simple structure consisting of few parts which can be readily formed of stamped metal to provide a match safe for containing matches, such as the usual parlor matches or those which come in boxes and are ,known as safety matches.
The'invention still further contemplates suitable. means forming covers for the match safe and which, when open, will constitute ash trays.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the match safe, showing the same in closed position; Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the match safe open, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the match safe. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken through the structure as disclosed in Fig. 2. Referring more particularly to the views, I disclose a match safe 10 comprising a holder 11 preferably in the nature of a receptacle having a substantially rectangular configuration and preferably having its bottom 12 rounded. A hinge member l3 projccts from the rounded bottom 12 at its me dial portion and is adapted to receive therethrough a pintle 14. Covers 15 terminate at their inner ends in hinge members 16 and the hing-re members of each cover are adapted to register with the hinge member 13, with the pintle 14 passing through the hinge members 16 so that the covers 15 will be swingingly supported on the under side of the holder 11, said covers 15 adjacent the Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed April 7, 1914.
.are closed. The holder 11 Patented Nov. 3U, 1915.. Serial No. 330,250.
hinge members 16 being roundeda's shown, and also having their free edges 17 rounded.
he covers 15 are formed with sides 18 to constitute trays when the covers are in horizontal position as shown inFig. 2 and one of the covers 15 is provided with a push button clasp 1 adapted toengage a strap 20 on the other cover so that the covers can be locked in closed position and inclose the holder 11 as shown in Fig. 1, it being readily seen that by forming the covers as mentioned their edges will fit closely together to form a smooth surface when the covers and also the covers 15 are provided with serrations 21 upon which matches can be struck, the said serrations being preferably formed on the outer sides of the holder and the outer faces of the covers.
rom the foregoing description it will be apparent that the device described provides a simple and effective pocket match safe for containing matches in the holder 11 and which will be inclosed by the covers 15 when they are in closed position, while the device also comprehends the use of the covers 15 for ash trays when they are open as shown in Fig. 2, the said covers being adapt ed to lie in opposed relation, with the holder 11 therebetween.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A device of the class described comprising a holder having its bottom provided with an exteriorly .arranged groove semi-circular in cross section. a pair of covers each having one edge provided with rectangular recesses forming substantially rectangular hinged members. hinged members of one cover being arranged in the recesses of the other cover and adapted to abut the inner walls of the recesses when 111 open position, .and a. pintle passing through the extremities of the hinged members and engaging portions of said holder, said pintle lying within the groove of the holder.
In testimony whereof T aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
