Abstract

1,208,264. Forming sliver. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. 10 Oct., 1967 [13 Oct., 1966], No. 45860/66. Heading D1N. A sliver 23 is made by removing a web of fibres from card 11 with doffer 12, removing the web from the doffer and feeding it through a nip between two evaporating members 21, 22 into a predetermined plane into a draw-off zone, to a fibre-receiving surface along which the web is transported substantially in said plane in a direction substantially normal to the feed direction to form a sliver. The plane of the web whilst in the nip intersects the fibre-receiving surface and is unobstructed between the nip and the fibre-receiving surface. The fibre-receiving surface can be a moving belt as shown or a stationary plate with the sliver being drawn off by take-up rollers.
