I am using the tool to check what is going on in my network. Very easy to use and perfect overview, what is connected and what is the status.
I hope after the trial period, i can keep the setup for my little private netwerk in place.
As a private person its a lot of money for the contract. For any company depending on a functional network, it would make a lot of sense to invest. If i had a compan like this, i would buy it.

An awesome tool with incredible capabilities and stable performance over the years.

Doesn’t work correctly on iPhone 14 and Safari.
While the start page is quite legible starting „Alle Alarme anzeigen“ the site turns into a confusing puzzle of letters.
For example the checkbox „Alle auswählen“ shows the hint this way:
All
e
au
s
w
äh
le
n
There are more issues. Scrolling down in the list of alerts is like a game of chance.
Each other draw the site jumps back to the top.
It‘s really no fun at all to use ManagedMonitoring on mobiles.
You should habe a complete revision of MM.

Licensing model changed to be significantly more expensive. PRTG was a great product for the cost, but they weren't the best. They've put themselves into a price bracket where they aren't competitive for what it does. When comparing something like this to OpManager for example, it's missing key components like real-time automatic network topology. They think they're big boys, but they aren't.

What I find extremely frustrating is in the graphical mapping tool one can only move one item (device) at a time. Being able to select multiple items simply to move around should be extremly simple to implement yet this feature has been requested for over a decade and the company ignores it to this day. It erodes a lot of trust that the company has the goal of making a product customers want.

Changing to a subscription based model and at higher price overnight. This company can no longer be trusted.

All in all a really great tool, however it has it's few bugs and is hard to use as a unexperienced user.
+ Easy creation
+ Great autoscan
+ good default values
+ Licensed per Sensor, not by user or anything like that
+ Easy setup of remoteprobes
+ Great additional Tools like MIB-Splitter, SNMP-Tester...

What is great are the various ways you can configure sensors, especially custom sensors written in powershell, and to be able access rest api sites (or shelly devices) Also very good is the low cpu and memory load on the hosting system. I run it at home on a laptop. What can be approved:
Connectors with grafana, more ways to access Azure monitor, better and more (custom) dynamic objects for maps, as i use it also to monitor non it systems
But -important- the free tier for 100 sensors is very good

I'm here because of a constant nag-screen within our paid instance of PRTG that constantly begs for a review, so here we are. PRTG is one of the worst monitoring software I've ever used. It is difficult to use & administer, documentation is poor if it exists at all, support cant/wont help you, and bug fixes/feature requests go ignored. Graphing, monitoring, etc is cludgy at best, sensors are difficult to create and randomly stop working. If you have a big network/many sensors you will end up needing 2+ servers & licensing just to keep the instance from failing entirely and nowhere near the limits Paessler claims. Every company I have worked for that uses PRTG ends up switching to something else, as we are now too. Maybe invest more development resources to features your customers actually want as opposed to a survey nag screen.

PRTG is great in that it automatically reports malfunctions of any on-prem devices such as servers, network appliances, etc...
It is really helpful when it summarizes a couple of messages in one e-mail when occurred in a certain period of time.

After a little training, everything is possible with the software. Extremely flexible and very structured. Good support and lots of information online.

The interface of this system is very easy to see

A might expensive. I find the software to be useful but not too important. The price is through the roof.
Reply from Paessler PRTG
Unfortunately, navigating through the webinterface is very time consuming and it doesn't seem intuitive, neither to say confusing. As I did not install the software, I can't rate this part. But from my expereience, it seems to be a very huge and ressource hungry system which is not very responsive. But this could be related to our server side. Personally, I experienced faster and more "cleaned up" open source monitoring tools.
