The subscription model killed it for us. Paessler's response to one reviewer with the same problem I have
Thank you for your honest feedback. We recognize that moving to a subscription model is a significant change, but it supports our commitment to continually improve the product and deliver more value over time. We're sorry to hear that you're considering other options, and we hope to have the opportunity to exceed your expectations in the future.
That AI type response makes it feel like I am dealing with scripted customer service.
Fact of the matter is that Paessler has sat on their SNMP laurels for years now. I had a few products that PRTG could only pull sensor data for ping. It is not my job to develop their product and create scripts and custom sensors. I should be able to just enter SNMP information and their product get the data I need. They should be making sure that the MIB's match, are current, and etc. I'm a network engieer not an PRTG developer. Not to mention their tired looking UI. I have created support cases directly from within PRTG that went unanswered. There are literally so many other options that do exactly the same thing PRTG. $1,495 for 2500 sensors, sure. $8,100 for 2,500 sensor in its current state, NO WAY!

Have been using this product for over a decade and it served our needs. We paid an upfront cost for 1000 sensors and paid an annual fee of approximately €579 a year for annual maintenance/updates. Upon renewal this year to the new subscription model you want €2,899 a year for the same product, which quite frankly is a joke.
As others have said here there are better products available for the cost. Just another demonstration of corporate greed and subscription models destroying what was a perfectly functional piece of software and business.
You've lost another long-term customer, and I'm moving to Zabbix.

very unintuitive and time consuming.
missing proxmox monitoring

Clean UI, easy to use for causal usecase while allowing experts to config more detail configuration. Love the onboarding process which guides me through all basic steps i need to take for the setup. After followewd that, I can at least able to view all my devices on the network.

PRTG - Rocks.. and its credit to them for providing a free version, that comes with all the functions and 100 sensors. I have a complex environment at home and i really enjoy setting up the reporting. ps the factory sensors are a game changer. I have been running PRTG for almost a year now..

I have always been a fan of Paessler and have used it for many years. However, one must adapt to the times, and as I now need to monitor much more at home, the 100 free sensors in PRTG are no longer sufficient. As a result, I had to switch to CheckMK. I now have over 250 sensors running in my home network, all for free. If Paessler were to reconsider its licensing policy and adjust its product offering like CheckMK has, I would consider switching back.

We have relied on PRTG for IT infrastructure monitoring for over a decade.
This year Paessler partnered with Turn/River Capital, transitioning from annual software maintenance renewals to a subscription-based model. This shift included an almost 300% price hike for the pleasure.
Helmut Binder, CEO of Paessler AG, commented, “Joining forces with Turn/River opens new avenues for Paessler. The firm’s expertise in operations and strategic market expansion will empower us to scale even faster and enhance our ability to deliver value to present and future customers.”
Despite these claims, it’s hard to see the value in paying triple the price for a product that has seen no meaningful updates or innovation for years.
With such steep price increases aimed at boosting private equity profits, we have decided not to support this and will be transitioning to a different monitoring solution.

Recent changes to their licensing after being taken over by another company have seen licence costs skyrocket by between 2.5 and 5x with no meaningful changes to the product. PRTG's value was in the fact that you pay for the licensing once and then pay a modest support fee for updates - the move to a subscription model has destroyed this advantage and despite the constant rhetoric from the company that "this is to support the future development of the product", there has been no sign of any meaning changes to the software.
Time to find another solution.

Should use the PRTG effective monitoring tool -a professional tool I have been trying until now.

PRTG lets you automatically search for available network devices and services. Thanks to a clear graphic user interface, the process of adding, editing, and deleting sensors is very intuitive. Zabbix, on the other hand, uses a highly technical automatic network discovery with countless SNMP commands.

I am not enough skilled to evaluate the package in the whole. But I was looking for relatively easy information: 1. identify the nodes of my network by name (if possible) 2. by IP number and 3. by MAC. This was impossible or at least completely not trivial to do, so I decided that the tool is not suitable for my needs

PRTG has been monitoring my home network for years. So, no stress about devices/connections/internet etc. Works like a charm.

Paessler was taken over by another company, since then it has been on a steady decline. Both customers and their own employees don't trust Paessler anymore, and with good reason.
They switched to a subscription based model overnight and their prices have skyrocketed by about 250%. Check out other solutions first made by companies that won't screw you over.
