Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 64 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently complain that expensive appliances break down quickly, highlighting poor manufacturing quality and defective parts. Consumers note that items like kettles, toasters, and coffee machines fail prematurely despite their premium price tags and stylish designs. Reviewers also express deep frustration with unhelpful customer support and rigid warranty policies that offer little assistance. Many buyers report significant difficulties when trying to secure repairs, obtain replacements, or receive adequate responses for broken products. Shoppers strongly feel that these luxury brands completely fail to take responsibility when expensive appliances go wrong.

SMEG Review

SMEG Review
For the peace of mind of other customers and their families, I strongly recommend staying away from the SMEG brand.
This is already my second SMEG refrigerator, and I am extremely disappointed with both the product quality and the way SMEG handles its warranty obligations.
My first SMEG refrigerator failed after only a few months of use. Although it was under warranty, we were left without a refrigerator for about a month before SMEG finally replaced it. Unfortunately, the replacement refrigerator has now developed serious problems as well.
My current SMEG FA490URX developed multiple issues while still under warranty. An authorized service technician identified an internal defect that was accepted for warranty repair. At the same time, both exterior metal side panels physically separated from the refrigerator cabinet, which was also documented by the authorized technician.
Instead of resolving the problem promptly, SMEG has prolonged the process and refused warranty coverage for the side panels, claiming that insufficient side clearance caused the damage.
However, I reviewed the original installation manual supplied with the refrigerator and could not find a specified minimum side clearance between the refrigerator and a normal wall or kitchen cabinet. I have asked SMEG in writing to identify the exact page and exact clearance requirement that I allegedly violated.
If a manufacturer denies warranty coverage because installation instructions were supposedly violated, it should be able to show exactly which published requirement was violated.
I also purchased an extended warranty for additional peace of mind. After my experience with two SMEG refrigerators, I deeply regret choosing this manufacturer and spending additional money on extended coverage.
I have kept the photographs, authorized service report, warranty documents, original installation manual, and all correspondence with SMEG. If SMEG continues to refuse its warranty obligations, I am considering filing a consumer protection complaint and pursuing legal action.
After my experience with two SMEG refrigerators, I cannot recommend this brand and will not purchase SMEG products again.

Very disappointed with SMEG Canada – Serious Safety Concern

I purchased a SMEG stovetop kettle from Winners/Marshalls approximately one year ago. Recently, the kettle caught fire while in use. This was extremely frightening and, in my opinion, a very serious safety issue.
I contacted SMEG Canada expecting the incident to be taken seriously. Instead, the response focused primarily on the fact that I could not provide the original receipt and that the kettle was therefore considered out of warranty. I was offered information about purchasing replacement parts and finding a technician, even though I have no intention of repairing or using a kettle that has caught fire.
I understand that companies have warranty policies and that proof of purchase may be required for warranty coverage. However, I am extremely disappointed that a product that caught fire was treated primarily as a warranty/repair matter rather than as a serious product safety concern.
I chose SMEG because I believed it was a reputable brand known for quality and reliability. After this experience, I am very disappointed with both the product and the way my safety concern was handled.
I hope SMEG Canada takes reports like this more seriously and investigates why this kettle caught fire, rather than simply directing customers toward purchasing parts.
A kettle catching fire should never be treated as just a repair issue.

Bought a smeg kettle

Bought a smeg kettle, 7 months later the lid broke and Kloppers replaced it for me.
The second kettle eventually broke at the exact same point in the lid, I have to pay to return it to SMEG, then I have to pay to have it repaired.
The kettle costs R2999 and now I have to keep paying for a flaw in the lid of their product, I am sorry but as a retired person I do not have money to waste. Read on a site that they last 7 to 8 years, I disagree!
Shame on SMEG, I will not buy their products again! SMEG is prepared to help me, but it will cost me and not them 🙂‍↔️ Stand by your brand SMEG!
Told the lady I would rather take a toaster because I don't want this to happen again, I was told no.
I have to take another kettle and the same one that has broken twice 🫪 no thanks!

2 coffee makers in less than 2…

2 coffee makers in less than 2 months the 1st one. Replaced the the 2nd one started acting up. I contacted smeg & they offered me 30%. I told them the 1st had a faulty water pump only after 2 months. It just girgles & steam & steams up t our ceilings & cabinets & only makes 4-6 cups sometimes only 2 cups even though it supposed to make 10 cups. The 2nd one wentvout too same problem water pump. It costs more to have it fixed than I paid for it. They are both in the trash. They hadvthe nerve to offer me 30% buy a 3rd one are they crazy? The 4 slice toaster burns the top & doesn't toaster the bottom. The setting is only on 2. Do not buy SMEG toaster or the coffee makers.

Shocking Smeg even more mistakes

I have been asked to contact Smeg with more information about my recent review but it was sent before I had finished. so I will contact them this way.
On 9th July a replacement toaster was sent by SMEG to DPD in Portsmouth. Due to the failure of the original one which was purchased in November. After a few days I queried where it was and after backwards and forwards e mails and numerous phone calls at my expense to customer service agents it was ascertained that it had been lost!! A replacement for the lost toaster was arranged Tuesday 21st July by Jo and was delivered on ~Thursday 23rd by DPD and the faulty toaster picked up at the same time. Today another toaster arrived 24th and I was asked by Smeg to tell them to not accept this. It is now back with DPD At the same time I received an e mail from Smeg to say today to say that the additional toaster not ordered by me would be delivered next Friday 31st July as I had changed my delivery date!!!!! I have been trying to stop this delivery for days. During all this process I have made six phone calls and sent numerous e mails to the customer service department not one of the customer service representatives apart initially from Jo got a handle on the paperwork never checked through the string of e mails sent and went off on a tangent presumably ordering another toaster. No one got a handle on the complaints and just went off and did their own thing. This is why another Toaster was sent today and now it is being sent again next Friday back to me. No-one takes responsibility for their actions and that is why I have complained. If you want Smeg more info please ask me privately for that information as this is open to everyone to see my details. This latest issue is almost unbelievable !

New out of the box dishwasher doesn’t…

New out of the box dishwasher doesn’t work. I plug it in it beeps twice and nothing happens.

I had to order my appliances ahead of time so that my kitchen would be ready to install when my children were off at summer camp. Of course it was past the 30 day return window by the time the appliance was installed.

SMEG passes off their warranty claims to ROYCO who completely ignores you. It’s been six weeks and my dishwasher still doesn’t work.

1400 dollar paperweight. I immensely regret purchasing anything SMEG.

This isn't a company

This isn't a company, they're top-level scammers. They have a polished policy of escaping all liability. Their products may be shiny, and their advertising too, but what they produce simply doesn't work. I'm sure this company will soon go under. They work with the same distributors as them, specifically in my case, an online store for TechInn. So, together with them, they simply deceived me. I bought a coffee maker for €1,230 and now I have neither the money nor the coffee maker. I'll have to sue. I called them three times, and they don't speak English. And when they do, they promise to fix everything, but they don't do anything. They don't respond to emails. Extremely painful and humiliating experience. Rottenness really

One of the worst warranty experiences…

One of the worst warranty experiences I’ve ever had.

I purchased a premium-priced SMEG kettle because I expected premium quality and customer service. Instead, the lid failed during normal use, and my warranty claim was denied. Rather than taking responsibility for what appears to be a product defect, the company simply labeled it “normal wear and tear” and implied that I was negligent.

It’s incredibly disappointing to see a company blame its customers instead of standing behind its products. If a kettle lid cannot withstand normal everyday use, that raises serious concerns about its durability. What’s even more frustrating is that the response I received felt dismissive, with no meaningful effort to resolve the issue beyond suggesting I find a local repair technician.

For a brand that markets itself as high-end, this level of customer service falls far below expectations. A warranty should protect customers from product failures—not become an excuse to deny responsibility by blaming the customer.

I chose SMEG because I believed I was paying for quality and reliability. After this experience, I have lost confidence in the brand and will think twice before purchasing another SMEG product. I hope potential buyers carefully consider whether the premium price is worth it when the company may not stand behind its products if something goes wrong

Why would anyone buy these products!

Why would anyone buy these products!? Third rate quality, poor customer service - absolutely a no go would be my advice! I have a SMEG KETTLE - useless as it leaks water from the window showing the level of water! Customer Service do no want to know as It was given to me at 6 months old by an elderly friend who has gone into a home. He paid full retail price for it from John Lewis (the fool) but as he doesn't retain receipts it is now going in the wheelie bin.

ADVICE: steer clear of this shoddy quality, highly marketed rubbish - instead, go to B&M and buy 8 Blaupunkt kettles for the same price as one of these - better quality, better decision!! - Simples

If there were a zero star SMEG APPLIANCE S

If there were a zero star, I would rate THEM and their customer service especially that way. I have had a $5600 refrigerator that not only didn’t last a year, it’s under warranty and it’s been malfunctioning for 6+ months. Smeg will not honor the warranty, continues to ask for more information on where we bought it, model numbers, videos of the malfunction, all of which we have done countless times. Not only have we absolutely completed all of this and the dealer even tried to get us help, we even paid out of pocket someone else to come try. That did not work.
I have the proof of all of this yet no responses.
End result: Save your money, your stress and time. They are truly one of the worst companies I have dealt with and I just built a 6000sq ft home. Have plenty of vendors to compare it to. Good luck!

No appliance support for Fiidges

There is only one engineer that can service Smeg fridge freezers in Leinster and he doesn't respond to calls (waiting over a week, numerous attempts made) so effectively there is no support. I gave up in the end on my 6 year old Smeg fridge freezer and purchased a Bosch model.

Smeg are overpriced tat!

Smeg charge the earth, the quality is terrible and the customer service is worse. I assumed that something this expensive would actually work but in two cases out of three they have not and Smeg customer "service" is so bad it is frankly embarrassing. I will never buy Smeg products again.
