Their Customer Service is Abominable

I bought online a Withings BPM Core Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor and drove from Pukekohe to Harvey Norman's shop in Manukau to collect it. The box of the BP monitor was damaged in a few places. This is highly sensitive digital monitor with a stethoscope that requires to be handled carefully. Clearly, it wasn't. I asked for another device and have been told that they don't have any in stock. I don't believe that.

I am sick of picking up defective items and sick of being lied to by lazy and dishonest retailers.

Shame on you Harvey Norman. Your customer service is abominable. Never again I'll set foot in your stores, nor will I shop online from you.

Excellent and hassle-free service!

Excellent and hassle-free service!
My Westinghouse washing machine developed a fault while still under warranty. Because the exact same model was out of stock, Harvey Norman Manukau upgraded me to the newer model at absolutely no extra charge. They delivered the new machine straight to my home and collected the old one at the same time. The entire process was smooth, professional, and completely stress-free. Thank you so much for the fantastic customer service

I was an easy sale for a Shark.

I was an easy sale for a Shark vacuum at HN Northwood Christchurch because the other electrical appliance and furniture store next door had closed down. I knew which one I wanted to purchase but the Salesperson was knowledgeable with good communication skills and an enjoyable sense of humour. He demonstrated the functions and various accessories with skill and when finished he went and emptied the reservoir the vacuum emptied itself into. It looked like it hadn't ever been emptied since the product hit the market - impressed that he didn't gloss it over and ignore it. When the packaged vacuum was requested from the storage area, the wrong product was sent out to the floor. My salesperson spotted it immediately, which I didn't, and rectified the error immediately, I would have been p*ssed to the max, if I had got home and unpacked the cheaper model.
Now it has been charging for the required time and I am about to do a test clean. If there are issues I will add to this.
The gentleman who brought out the correct model was happy to load it in my car for me. I dealt with three people in the store and all were both polite, and knowledgeable about the products and very helpful with the process. I did not experience any upselling or arrogance from any of the staff at this branch. This was a very pleasant surprise given that I have experienced this behaviour at the other HN stores in Christchurch itself.
I will shop at this branch again.
A side note about Shark's packaging, three pieces of sticky tape were the only unrecycleable items, all the other trays and wrappers were cardboard or paper. Not a scrap of polystyrene in sight. So pleased with that.

Be careful buying their "Lifetime…

Be careful buying their "Lifetime Warranty Screen Protector". I was talked into a lifetime warranty purchase for my phone screen protector 2 years ago. Now my phone has been superceeded by newer models and they no longer carry screen protectors for my phone. I have broken the protector and am unable to get a replacement from them. Apparently Lifetime means "As long as we still sell it"

Amazing staff mrmber

After trying multiple places asking for help in getting photos from my phone to their print machine and being treated like we were just stupid, a lovely young lady in the Photo Centre at Harvey Norman in Moorhouse Ave was incredibly helpful. Not only did she help us print out photos step by step from my phone, she also helped us in the making up a printed photo book. She spent over an hour of her valuable time with us for which we greatly appreciated. Shout out to this lovely lady; she deserves the "employee of the month award" for sure. Unfortunately neither of us thought to get this lady's name but we are sure that the store will be able to find out who was running the Photo Centre at Moorhouse Ave store at around 1.30ish yesterday morning, (Monday 23rd March 2026). This lady is very kind and doing a fantastic service to her customers. We hope she gets some recognition with the store.

Unsatisfactory customer service

Product looked nothing like it was expecting - and harvey norman offer no option recifty. I purchased a headboard with a "rustic" finish - what I got looked nothing like the pictures in the ad. Harvey Norman said they went back to the manufacturer and were told "it is what it is". I subsequently received contact from the manufacturer who had no record of any communication. They collected the piece, re-worked it to how I wanted it to look, and return delivered. Exceptional service from the manufacturer. Absolutely appalling service from Harvey Norman.

Had a fault with a kenwood food mixer

Had a fault with a kenwood food mixer. took it back for exchange or repair, was told i also need to bring in the small palstic weigh try that does absolutly nothing to check if its works or not. this is just a consequence of staff not using initiative and following the rules. so after 40 minute round trip, brought in the tray. customer service guy was pretty miserable. waitied 3 weeks, heard nothing. went back to the store and asked what was going on. took my returns receipt with all details on. service girl, who was alot happier, couldnt find anyting on there system. i thought here we go. anyway, after a time she got hold of someone who found it. reply, we dont know what oging on we only get updates on thiursday's....she couldn't call the repair centre down the road to equire why it was taking so long. anyway, just had a text (thursday) saying part coming form Austrailia, but no idea how long its going to take. this i kenwoods poor service also (illl elave a review on there site also. harvey norman should be putting pressure on there suppliers for beter service but the staff just couldnt care less about getting somehting repaird in a timley manner. over three weeks without the appliance and still no idea when it will be fixed.

Urvish Queenstown was the most amazing helpful technician to deal with. I had three visits due to password issues and awaiting timeframes from Apple Support. He was so knowledgable and patient. Also sorted security issues.

The salesman who sold me a phone was…

The salesman who sold me a phone was dishonest in his "blurb" of saving money by cancelling my service provider, and setting up another service provider where he benefits from bonus's for the company he changed it to. I came home to no internet and then when called back to find out what he had actually done I was told I had to give back $200 from the "gift" given from the phone he sold me. This is deceptive, dishonest and Harvey Norman is one retail centre I would never expect this from. I purchased this phone on the 18th December 2025 and it is only today I have finally been able to query this with a "proprietor" who did not listen but insisted I return $200 if I did not fulfill the 6 month contract I was signed up to. Hugely disappointing as Harvey Norman used to be a lock tight excellent and trusted service.

Crap Service - Paraparaumu

I went to the store this morning at 9.20am to purchase a new washing machine top loader as our one had just died.

The gentleman (and I use that term loosely) that served us was unhelpful and rude. At no point did he make eye contact with us, and when we asked him about the different machines, in particular Fisher and Paykel as to whether they are good machines - he said “Well they are made in China”. No advice or help at all - he simply had a take it or leave it attitude.

In fact when we were just about to pay, my wife asked him “Do you not like your job?”. He replied yes and she said “Well your customer service needs improvement “. To which he simply smirked and said “Do you think so”. To which we said Yes. Then I said, you know what just cancel this transaction we are not going to proceed.

We then went across the road to another provider, bought the same machine and received polite and helpful service.

We have been a customer of Harvey Normans for over 30 years - the service we received today has now put an end to this.

Shame on such poor service .

NEVER AGAIN

Very Disappointing Experience with Harvey Norman – A Scam with the 7-Year Protection Plan

I purchased a premium sofa set from Harvey Norman in 2022 along with the 7-year protection care plan, expecting to have peace of mind in case anything went wrong. Unfortunately, our experience has been nothing short of a nightmare.

We’ve reached out multiple times, both by phone and in person, to discuss issues with my sofa and get assistance, but every time, I’m met with zero accountability and an unwillingness to go the extra mile to help. It’s become clear that the protection plan is a scam. They make bold claims that you’re covered for 7 years, but there’s no mention of hidden clauses or restrictions, especially about when you can make a claim.

In 2023-2024, I lodged an inquiry for a claim to have my sofa fixed. I was told I could revisit the issue when I was ready, which seemed reasonable at the time. Fast forward to 2025, and when I followed up, I was told that they wouldn’t accept my claim, that the material was no longer accessible, and they were unwilling to meet any of the reasonable options we proposed as compensation for the inconvenience.

In the end, our simple request was:

To have the couch repaired as per the signed 7-year protection warranty by the end of 2025.

OR

To receive a full refund of $299 NZD, while maintaining the protection for all future claims (excluding the current issue), and have the entire couch professionally deep-cleaned at a time convenient for us.
(To which we considered very do-able after all the inconvenience and lost time and money trying to accommodate both Harvey Norman and TF Group.)

Instead of agreeing to any of these reasonable solutions, they insisted on simply refunding us the money and removing any future accountability, leaving us with no protection for the remainder of the 7 years.

Please, NEVER EVER purchase any protection or warranty Harvey Norman offers. This entire experience has been a huge disappointment, and I will not consider going back to Harvey Norman again.

WH-1000XM5 headset fault repaired

WH-1000XM5 headset. After 7 months, the right swivel hinge popped out of the headband. I took the headset back to the retailer (Harvey Norman) who sent this to Sony NZ in auckland.

Sony replied "the issue being reported is considered to be physical damage in nature. Hence, the warranty of the product cannot be applied. We can arrange a repair request and have our service centre contact you in 2 business days to discuss the repair but charges will apply."

As Harvey Norman is legally liable for the repair, replacement or refund - my response of "This issue appears to be consistent with a known design flaw reported by other users, as documented in public forums and articles such as Headphonesty’s January 2024 report. The failure occurred without any misuse or impact, and I believe it constitutes a breach of the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (NZ), particularly the guarantee of acceptable quality and durability." was sufficient for Harvey Norman to escalate the issue with Sony to repair the headset at no cost. Two weeks later, I got my repaired headset back.

For those interested - had Sony rejected that request, the fault would become a 'major fault'. Under NZ law, I could force Harvey Norman to replace or refund the headset. Any pushback would have resulted in a Disputes Tribunal claim being raised.
The Disputes Tribunal in NZ is a quick, cheap, and informal way to resolve civil disputes (up to $30,000) without lawyers, using a referee to help parties reach agreements or make binding decisions on issues like faulty goods.

Liars

Unfortunately the salesperson promised me a price promise on a Braun series 9 shaver $345.
As this was a display model I went in-store to pick up the item to find she had sold me another brand shaver and then colluded with another staff member to say I was the liar. UNBELIEVABLE in wrecking the Harvey Norman brand there is no opportunity to give my review 0.Will never shop there again.

Only 2/5s of my order arrived from the Mount Roskill site. After many calls, they agreed to deliver the rest this week. At no point was I even offered a refund on the initial delivery service and at no point did anyone apologise. Actually I detected arrogance from the call.
I never leave reviews but I’ve made an exception for this situation.
I’ve no issues with the delivery guys, just the arrogant phone operator.
