This is a follow-up from a previous review. Not only did this company scam me out of over $600 dollars by sneakily adding an extra week on my rental that was not requested and the writing was not discernable because the text is miniscule, they also charged me for an alleged traffic violation admin fee. By the way, this traffic violation does not exist as I learned from contacting ANTAI, so this is yet another scam by Europcar France (Albertville) Please steer clear! If you do use Europcar, make sure you read the entire contract with a fine tooth comb and demand an agent who speaks English if you do not speak or understand French. In addition, make sure you note all damage to your car when you pick it up and take pictures and videos. When returning the car, fill the tank full and take pictures of the fuel-line, the odometer and take pictures and/or videos of the car and make sure the people you drop it off with, give you a signed copy of the car's condition. Do not drop your car off before or after hours. Again, if you receive an email from Europcar regarding an alleged traffic violation and an email from ANTAI, beware this is a concerted scam. Go directly to the ANTAI website antai.gouv.fr and input the reference number in their system. It will probably say it does not exist. Under no circumstances should you click on any link if you receive an email from ANTAI. Instead, if it is a legit citation, you will receive it in the mail. Don't Use Europcar! -Good luck!

Appalling service. I asked for assistance but only one person working there so I got no help. They wanted £650 deposit (to be returned a month later). The key fob was damaged and didn’t work properly. The car had no fuel in. Everything had been changed to Spanish and had not been returned to French. I cancelled in the end

Just finished a 4 day rental with Europcar at Beauvais Airport . Wonderful , effortless experience from start to finish . Staff were super helpful and efficient. I would highly recommend them for your car hire needs .

Amazing! Our flight was an hour and a half late from London into Marseille, and even though they closed at Midnight, the staff stayed open especially to wait for us. (They were tracking our flight and knew we were running late). Adil and Myriam were fantastic, both super friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them both. Adil especially went out of his way to assist us and make sure our trip started off fantastically. Thank you Adil. What an amazing experience. Super friendly and helpful and we even received a free upgrade. A lovely and wonderful experience from Europcar Marseille Airport. Thank you. We will definitely be booking with you again.

Absolutely unacceptable experience with Europcar France.
In October 2025, I was provided with a vehicle that was clearly not roadworthy. The car had severe vibration issues and tyre problems, making it potentially dangerous — especially as I was travelling long distance internationally with my wife and young children.
To make matters worse:
* The vehicle I originally booked was not provided
* I was pressured into paying for a more expensive upgrade
* Customer support was completely ineffective despite multiple attempts to get help
* Our family holiday was significantly disrupted, including delays and changes to accommodation
* Additional unclear charges were applied
This situation caused serious safety concerns, financial loss, and considerable distress to my family.
I have contacted Europcar directly but have not received a satisfactory resolution. I am now seeking full reimbursement and compensation.
I strongly advise others to think carefully before using this company.
I have full evidence including photos, call records, and transactions.

For a peice of debris (noted as being 0.5mm on the report) on the car, which had nothing to do neither with my driving, nor with anything else, a "reperation" charge of 80 euros, and a "file charge" of 87 euros was billed to us, without our consent. Never again, never again.

I rented a small car for 4 days from Strasbourg Airport and paid in full in advance. I returned the car to the same airport, fully fueled, without any damage.
I ended up getting an invoice for an additional fee for airport parking of 35 Euros and a cross-border fee of 31 Euros! I didn't cross any borders outside the EU and why should I pay for car parking? I contacted Europcar twice asking for a refund but they did not reply. It's been over two weeks now. I had never rented a car from them before and I will never rent a car from them again!

Dear Friend,
Please avoid renting a car from this company.
Our experience was extremely disappointing and frankly unacceptable. The staff were neither welcoming nor helpful, and the attendant named Ben was particularly unprofessional. His behaviour lacked the basic standards of customer service: he was not polite, not helpful, and did not provide clear or adequate assistance despite the fact that we had a confirmed reservation.
Instead of trying to resolve the situation or assist us in a constructive way, the interaction became unpleasant and unproductive. As a result, my family and I decided not to proceed with the rental and chose another company.
I have already contacted customer service requesting the management’s email address so that I can formally report the situation and explain the very poor experience my family and I went through.
Customers expect professionalism, courtesy, and basic respect. Unfortunately, this was not the case here.
I strongly recommend considering other rental providers.

We arrived at Orly Airport and went to the Europcar desk to pick up the car we had rented online. The vehicle assigned to us was an electric car advertised with a range of around 400 km. However, in practice the car needs around 4 hours of charging after roughly 100 km of driving.
This information was not mentioned anywhere during the online booking process. If we had known that the practical range could be this limited and that charging would take several hours so frequently, we would never have chosen this vehicle, especially for a trip that requires regular driving.
Advertising a 400 km range without clearly explaining the realistic conditions, charging limitations, and potential charging time constraints is very misleading for customers. Travelers arriving at an airport often have schedules and destinations to reach, and discovering such limitations only at pickup is extremely frustrating.
We expected transparency and clear information when booking. Instead, we were put in a situation where the vehicle provided is impractical for our travel needs. We had to add around 500 eur to get another one

**Absolutely terrible and unacceptable experience.**
The location shown on Google Maps is wrong, which caused serious confusion, stress, and a huge waste of time. Because of this, I **missed my flight and lost around €2,000**. This is not a minor mistake — this had very serious financial consequences.
To make matters even worse, I was also **charged €280 for an “extra” that I never asked for, never approved, and never agreed to**. I consider this completely dishonest and unacceptable. It feels like I was taken advantage of.
A company dealing with travelers should be accurate, transparent, and professional. In this case, they were none of those things. **Wrong location, unexpected charges, and a customer left to suffer the consequences.**
**I strongly do not recommend this company. Be very careful, verify every charge, and do not trust the information shown online without double-checking everything.**

I was charged for damage that wasn't me. A tiny chip in windscreen. I showed pictures I took of the car but of course this tiny chip wouldn't show up as it was like a spec of dirt. I tried to query it and the guy was suddenly unable to understand me despite us having a whole conversation before, then he just walked away. I was being respectful he didn't want to hear it. I was told I would be provided an invoice via email which didn't happen, I received it over a month later after querying it. THE ADMIN CHARGE FOR THE DAMAGE WAS MORE THAN THE COST TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE ITSELF. I go with Sixt now and very happy with their service.

Ongoing dispute for over 6 months with Europcar, and it’s been a constant cycle of broken promises, poor communication, and being passed around with no ownership. I was repeatedly told I would receive manager call-backs and UK escalation — it didn’t happen. Some staff assurances were later shown (via transcripts provided under my Subject Access Request) to be misleading / untrue.
Case: #24222725
Key issues:
I am being billed for damage that was already documented at the start of the rental. My original rental paperwork/condition report supports this, yet the return paperwork was completed in a way that contradicted the original documentation, and I’ve had to spend months trying to correct the record.
Europcar then took months to provide a proper repair bill / supporting documentation, while attempting to muddy the waters and avoid directly addressing the fact the damage was pre-existing.
Repeated promises of call-backs/escalation that never materialised, and no meaningful engagement with the evidence.
A Subject Access Request (SAR) handled extremely poorly — the response was around 3 months late, despite “on-record” evidence showing I requested it earlier and was told it was being raised (GDPR/SAR handling was unacceptable).
Most shockingly, Europcar progressed this to debt collection while the matter is still formally disputed, without proper resolution and without transparent communication.
This has been unnecessarily stressful and time-consuming. If Europcar monitor reviews, I would welcome contact from a senior owner who can take end-to-end responsibility and finally close this properly: Case #24222725.

I am submitting a complaint against Europcar regarding unfair and disproportionate charges applied to a three-day rental in France.
Europcar charged me €110 in administrative fees (€55 x 2) for two unpaid motorway toll events, despite these not being traffic or driving offences. Europcar’s role was limited to forwarding my contact details to the toll operator (SANEF). No evidence of actual costs incurred has been provided, nor copies of official notices. I was also not given the opportunity to settle the tolls directly before these fees were applied.
Although Europcar relies on a clause in its Terms and Conditions, consumer protection law requires such fees to be proportionate and reflective of real costs. A fixed €55 charge per toll event is excessive and appears punitive rather than administrative.
In addition, I was charged €176 at the rental counter for Premium Protection Package, Roadside Assistance and other extras despite already having full coverage via Booking.com. We explicitly informed the Europcar agent of this. The agent repeatedly stated “Deposit! Deposit!” without proper explanation. We reasonably believed this amount was refundable. These charges were not knowingly requested or consented to.
Europcar has refused refunds solely on the basis of a signed contract, ignoring the lack of informed consent and the misleading explanation provided at pickup.
If you don't have to, DON'T USE Europcar!

Very disappointed. I have been charged €339 for a scrape on the driver side wheel! I'm pretty sure I didn't even do it, hard to tell as pick up is in a dark underground carpark and the agent didn't check the wheels with us. There's been no attempt at reconciliation. I then got another €55 bill/deduction for the admin for a supposed violation for what I don't know! Again no explanation just 'Have a nice day' on the email.
I have pleaded with them to reply and dicuss but got nothing.
Will never use them again.
I got a link below to contact but tried 5 times after going through a long process only to say error and to phone. Which I did, to UK from Cyprus, again put on ignore for 10 mins. Gave up. Really upset with them

I reserved a car online. I got an email confirmation with a guaranteed price. When I arrive at CDG airport Europcar the lady in the desk, says they are out of cars first, then says she can only give me a car by upgrading me to an SUV and want me to pay and additional 100 euro. The car I reserved was an SUV. The so called SUV she have me was an Toyota CHR! I complained to her and showed her my confirmation email and the guaranteed price she started arguing and told me go if I didn’t like it. WTF! Worst ever service I have ever tried and worst attittude of an employee! She knew it was late and that I didn’t have time to find another car. The invoice was in french so couldn’t see invoicing me for. In one word scammers!

Terrible company …. Will never use them again … trying to rip you off for everything they can …. Always take video and photographs so that you can defend yourself against damage claims not caused by you. When hiring electric car make sure you check cables are actually there so that you don’t get stranded…. If you are late due to flight they will cancel your booking and try to make you pay for a new one

Charges on my credit card once I got home for "damages" I never received a statement of return with photos after bringing back the car even tho I signed the screen of the device of the agent because there was no issue on the return only after I returned home and saw my statement. No supporting documentation or any kind and you cannot get in touch with any customer service people!! I am not calling France long distance. This is becoming a nightmare! Having to attempt to contact Priceline where I booked the car who do NOT have any customer service either (stay away from them too) I have previously booked cars from Europcar many times with no problem The last 2 rentals for the same trip have become a nightmare. Something seems to be happening in Nice this year. They are scamming customers. Stay away from this company, they were good in the past but no more

Shocking customer service. I booked a car to be picked up at their office near Nice Promenade, and they changed it to Nice station, taking me extra effort to get there. When I received the final bill, they had charged me a premium location pickup surcharge (station, airport etc). I've complained to Amex and to Europcar and they're just not interested. After several months of trying, I've just received a letter telling me I'm not getting a refund. Europcar ... don't bother to reply to this telling me to send a message to you with the details. I did this before and you simply ignored it.
