Travala sells misleading hotel listings and offers no real customer protection
I booked an eight-night stay through Travala at a hotel advertised as a five-star property. After checking in, I found that the actual condition of the room was nowhere near the standard presented on the platform. I documented the issues with photographs, checked out after just one night, and had to book another hotel immediately.
What is especially concerning is that after the booking was completed, I was unable to leave an honest review of the hotel on Travala. This seriously calls into question how reliable and representative the hotel reviews displayed on their website actually are. If customers with completed stays cannot freely share negative experiences, then the ratings presented to future guests cannot be considered transparent.
I contacted Travala, provided photographic evidence, and explained the entire situation. Their only action was to pass the request to the hotel. When the hotel refused a refund, Travala simply stated that the decision was entirely at the hotel’s discretion and that they could do nothing further.
This is unacceptable. Travala takes the customer’s payment, advertises the property, presents its star rating and description, and profits from the booking. Yet when the accommodation does not correspond to what was sold, Travala refuses to accept any responsibility and leaves the customer to absorb the entire loss.
I paid US$910.40, stayed for only one night, and received no refund for the seven unused nights despite providing evidence and immediately booking alternative accommodation.
Travala appears happy to sell hotel listings and collect payment, but offers no meaningful protection when those listings are misleading. Based on my experience, I would not trust the hotel ratings or reviews displayed on this platform, and I would not book through Travala again.

Unfortunately, the hotel advised that, because the reservation was treated as a no-show for the remaining nights in accordance with its cancellation policy, it was unable to approve a refund.
We understand this was not the outcome you were hoping for. While we always do our best to advocate for our customers, refund decisions relating to hotel policies are ultimately made by the accommodation provider.
