The worst bank I have experienced in my…

The worst bank I have experienced in my life. Used to work and live in Germany for 3 years and hal as IT architect. When my contract ended as foreigner, I went to the Commerzbank in Hamburg to ask them if I can keep my account as foreigner nor living in Germany,n they told yes you have to fill out a document and provide a foreigner address and passport. I did all what they asked in person. After I left Germany, 3 months later they blocked my account and when I called them they said we can not say anything, you have to wait for a post letter, which never comes to my country. I was forced to book a flight and hotel to Frankfurt to close my account and request full transfer of my money to Canadian bank. They did it but they refused to provide me with a copy of receipt of this international wire transfer. I call them many times and send many emails with no answer.
Please avoid to deal with this bank, they are overrated by bureaucratie and procédures, they do not soeak english and not at all oriented towards solving problems.

The service at this branch is horrible

The service at this branch is completely unacceptable. The employees are unwilling to help the bank's customers in English, or alternatively, to be patient and allow the customer to use a translation tool.

I moved to Germany alone, without any family or friends, as an EU citizen. I received appalling service and treatment here. The clerk said she didn’t have time to help me (even though the branch had just opened in the morning, and I was the only customer there!).

I have never experienced such disrespect as a bank customer—being told that they don't have time to attend to me and help me. Instead, they sent me to a branch an hour's commute away.

The bank's complaint center refuses to help and dismissed my complaint against the branch, stating that the branch's version of events is different from mine. Unbelievable.

This is what a bank that doesn't care about its customers looks like. This is what bitter and burnt-out employees look like when they are unwilling to do their jobs properly.

I am extremely disappointed with this bank, especially after choosing it to deposit my entire life savings. I will never recommend this bank to anyone I know.

This bank is the worst I have ever come…

This bank is the worst I have ever come across! Not only does it allow fraud by it's staff of customer's money, it does absolutely every thing possible to not take responsibility for it's utter negligence and no amount of court orders will make it do anything professionally responsible or ethical, ie. Give back the money which belongs to the customer! From constant IT issues in branch, to branch managers hiding and deliberately making customers wait several hours at a time and then come out of an alleged meeting and state, "Sorry come back tomorrow!!!"

Of course they are happy to say, yes you must come into a branch, fine, but can you actually provide some customer service and do what you agreed to do?

Over two years we have been fighting to gain access to our money, which their staff chose to steal from our accounts! The bank Directors, Board or Executive Management don't seem to give a toss!!!

And where is the German banking regulator, no where to been seen!!!!

I see other reviewers are wanting to give minus 50 stars, mine would be minus infinity stars!!!!

Not successful

Useless. From one department to the other and then back to the first one. Totally lost 25 minutes without solving my issue

I’m updating my review after the…

I’m updating my review after the introduction of the €4.90 monthly fee for an account that was previously free. To avoid the fee, you now need €50,000 in your account, justified by rising costs, but customers face rising costs too. Cash withdrawals or app problems often mean waiting at least 30 minutes at the counter.

The app menu is only available in German, and managing the account requires three separate apps. After three years as a customer, I’ll be switching to a bank that feels more customer-focused.

What is particularly disappointing is the language issue. Almost five years ago, I received the response: “This feature is available in German only. We are constantly working on updates and enhancements, including English versions of our features.”

Almost five years later, the situation is still the same. If adding English has been “in progress” for nearly five years, how long are customers supposed to wait?

As an international customer living in Germany, I expect basic accessibility and customer service in English, especially from a modern banking service. Five years is more than enough time to deliver an English version.

I am give this rewiew after I waited 17 days to receive access to my account.

It looks like nobody cares here...

The absolute worst bank on earth

The absolute worst bank on earth. I’ve been trying to close my late partner’s account for weeks on end, but I’m getting nowhere. They send a link that doesn’t work, and no one on the phone has a clue. It’s just one big, solid wall you can’t break through. So, I can’t access the money. At this point, I call it theft.
They don’t even have an email address—it’s like going back to the Middle Ages.

Do not rely on Commerzbank cards when travelling outside Germany. I ( a so called premium customer) have had numerous transactions blocked, failed to be able to rent a car and the customer service is worse than dreadful. I recently reactivated 2 uk cards and the blocking problems are non existamt there, and customer service is kilometres ahead of Commerzbank. I might now consider ING DB or N52 for my German banking too.

Incompetent Customer Service and a Terrible Banking App

The most disgusting bank I have ever dealt with in my entire life.

You never know when money will actually be deducted from your account. The whole banking experience is unpredictable and stressful.

The customer service is completely incompetent. Whenever you contact them for help, you end up wasting your time and often creating even more problems because different agents provide misleading or contradictory information.

For example, when I simply asked why the Kontoalarm was not working, a customer service representative actually told me to file a complaint against her instead of trying to solve the problem.

On another occasion, both photoTAN and online banking stopped working—I couldn’t activate photoTAN or even log into my account. After I explained this, the agent simply told me that I had to activate photoTAN before he could help me, completely ignoring the fact that the reason I was calling was because photoTAN itself could not be activated.

The online banking app is a complete disaster. The Kontoalarm has never worked properly despite reinstalling the app and updating it to the latest version. Incoming transfers are frequently delayed. I often had to wait half a day or even an entire day longer than my colleagues before my salary actually became available in my account.

To make matters even worse, after closing my account, Commerzbank even charged me a fee without any prior notice or a clear explanation of what it was for.

The worst experience, however, was related to a failed direct debit. In my experience, the failed payment was caused by technical issues and problems with their online banking system, which resulted in the payment being reversed and Payback pursuing me for the returned payment.

I filed a complaint with BaFin. In its official response, Commerzbank insisted that the returned direct debit was “not due to a technical error” (”nicht aufgrund eines technischen Fehlers”) and described the refund as “a one-time gesture of goodwill” (”einmalig aus Kulanz”). They also stated that they considered all of my questions to have been “answered transparently and conclusively.”

I found this response extremely arrogant. Instead of acknowledging my concerns, they denied any technical problem and presented the refund as a gesture of goodwill, as if they were doing me a favor

Very bad and rude customer service

I need to complain about the Neu-Isenburg office, today after waiting for so long to receive my online banking information I went with my husband to this office to open a Girokonto, i speak english and german but my husband doesn't and the lady said "to have an account he must speak english or German otherwise we cannot accept it" I can't believe this kind of discrimination is used for the people who work at this bank, of course I thank her politly even she didn't deserve it and I went to another more famous bank and I got immediately an appointment for tomorrow to open an account for him. Unbelievable Commerzbank. So sad . 2thumbs down

CB provides no reason for cancelling loyal customer account

Having been a CB customer for over 40 years, and having continued to use the bank services for monthly transfers within Germany/Europe (and certainly not incurring overdrafts), I recently received notice that my account would be closed. No explanation provided. Bank officials are adamant that, by law, the bank doesn't need to provide reasons. So what if they don't "need" to? This is just downright rude and hugely inconvenient. I strongly discourage anyone from having any dealings with this bank.
