Price was not the same after I had made a payment it then increased the additional driver price and then told me I would have to pay additional money on pick up of vehicle
Very disapointed

My experience was extremely disappointing.
When I arrived to collect my rental car, my credit card was rejected because it did not display my full first name. This came as a complete surprise. Like many banks today, my card only shows my first initial and full last name, which is a very common format. As a customer, I had no reason to expect this would be an issue—especially since I had successfully rented a car in the past using the exact same card.
I understand that companies have terms and conditions, but this requirement is not something most customers would reasonably expect or even think to check before travelling. It feels like an unnecessary technicality that creates problems for customers rather than protecting them.
What made the situation even more frustrating was that, after I agreed to purchase additional insurance at the counter, my card suddenly became acceptable for payment. From my perspective, this was difficult to understand. If there had really been doubts about whether the card belonged to me, those concerns should not have disappeared simply because I agreed to pay for an extra product. I was also able to prove my identity with my government-issued ID, and my card signature matched my official signature.
As I urgently needed the car, I had no realistic alternative and felt pressured into paying for additional insurance.
Based on this experience, I will avoid booking through Argus in the future and will share my experience with friends and colleagues so they are aware of this requirement before travelling.
I also believe this policy deserves closer review from a consumer protection perspective, as many customers may be affected without realizing it.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience.
I booked my hire car as part of a Jet2 package holiday, so I reasonably expected there to be communication between the car hire company and Jet2 when my flight was delayed by over 24 hours. Unfortunately, there appeared to be no communication whatsoever.
When I arrived at the desk, I was simply told that my reservation had been cancelled because I had not collected the vehicle on time. At no point did anyone attempt to contact me, despite the company having my booking details, email address and telephone number. A simple phone call or email could have avoided the whole situation.
To make matters worse, the contact number provided on my car hire voucher went straight to a Spanish voicemail service, making it impossible to speak to anyone. Another customer at the desk told me they had experienced exactly the same problem.
Travelling with my wife and our six-year-old son, we had no option but to arrange another vehicle on the spot. We were then charged €88.44 for just 24 hours, which was incredibly expensive compared with the price of the original 14-day booking.
Thankfully, Jet2 have agreed to refund the original booking, but that does not excuse the complete lack of communication or the inconvenience and additional costs we were forced to endure.
I appreciate that policies exist, but good customer service is about communicating with customers, particularly when flights are delayed through no fault of the traveller. Sadly, that simply did not happen here, and the whole experience caused unnecessary stress at the start of our family holiday.

Simple to use and never had a problem with my booking

Good prices and clear website. Note there’s a surcharge for over 70’s. Bit annoying when I’ve driven 30000 miles over last 2 years incident free
This review only based on the booking process. I hope it is incident free when I pick the car up. Certainly don’t want the hassle of a hard sell with insurance. I hope Argus emphasise this with the car hire firms that they use

All looks perfect for us - as long as the free additional driver is not an issue when we get there, all will be great

Was able to book car hire, but was unable to pay for it. Tried numerous times wit different payment methods but would not go through

The staff badly need to articulate much more clearly.
The system of payment failed totally badly needs to be changed as failed to take payment after many attempts and completing of the form. Had to make many calls from London to Dublin at my expense currently £10. May cancel and ask for reimbursement.

I did make a mistake with my booking which was the day after I needed it. I cancelled the booking and have paid the fee of $115 for doing this.
My issue with all of this is there was no flexibility to make changes to the day I needed whilst I was at the rental company.

Pretty straightforward. Hopefully I don’t get shafted at Alicante airport again. Nothing to do with Argus.

Have used Argus for a long time, I feel I'm getting the best that the market can offer. This trip required a different drop off location from the collection so I was a bit concerned but it all was easily sorted out!

I have sent you an email about my experience with you. I am waiting for a reply. The rental supplier told us our credit card was blocked and didnt work when we got to Bucharest airport, so couldn't take out this car and ended up paying an extra £328.03 to hire a completely new car so paid twice. I want my money back as this retailer are scammers. The scam is a blocked card scam so they fraudulently claim your card doesn't work but they do work and absolutely nothing wrong with them. What are going to do about this? Please respond to my email.

The site doesn't warn explicitly about the need to have a credit card, which resulted in me having to take over 3 hours off my work day to sort the whole thing out, calling the hotline, calling the local provider and to avoid paying quite exuberant cancellation fees I had to ask a friend with a credit card to go to the airport with me very early in the morning and take the deposit on his credit card. It's all designed to profit off of cancellation fees, booking change fees, etc., which is why they're able to offer prices that are two times lower than the usual prices of the local provider. Which basically makes this site an elaborate scam preying on people who aren't keen on reading pages upon pages of legal documents.

Arrived at Goldcar hire desk and the assistant asked for my Italian ID instead of my Italian passport. As I don’t have one I explained the passport is enough as a form of recognisable ID but she refused to release the car I have already paid for. Connecting with support in UK they argue between them who is responsible for but unfortunately not able to provide a solution. I had to leave and book with another car rental in same location.

When I placed the booking I used a debit card as the method of payment and the full amount was taken from my account.I then received a confirmation email regarding booking which informed me that a credit card was required ( which I do not have )in the name of the main driver which is me .I was then informed that I could cancel the booking or change the main driver to a person with a credit card .
First I decided to cancel the booking but found that I incurred a €300 cancelation fee for a €720 booking then to find that replacing the main driver would it would have to be a new book that would lightly incur extra charges.
SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM ALL THE WAY .

It is very difficult to navigate when signing in to Argus Car Hire when then asked to click on a magic Link. It seems redundant. Second I tried to change my email address but there is no way I could do that. Thirdly I tried to do a second booking with different dates but it does not give you an option to make another booking. So I had to sign in a second time and go thru the validation process again.

I booked a rental car through ArgusCarHire, expecting a simple and transparent process. The reservation included insurance coverage, but when I arrived at the rental desk in Los Angeles, I was informed that I had to purchase additional insurance before the car could be handed over.
Of course, the fact that I had just arrived after an international flight, had luggage, time constraints, and an itinerary already planned was apparently not considered. Signing the additional insurance documents under those circumstances was, according to ArgusCarHire, simply proof that everything was perfectly fine.
The best part of the story is the customer service afterwards: every complaint was carefully reviewed and then politely dismissed with the same brilliant argument — "you signed the agreement." A very efficient way to avoid discussing the actual customer experience.
So congratulations to ArgusCarHire for demonstrating that a signature matters more than transparency, customer choice, or common sense.
If you enjoy surprises at the rental desk and paying extra for products you did not ask for, ArgusCarHire might be the right choice. Otherwise, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

We paid premium package and went to the car rental company Idea to pick up our car. Although we have international driving licenses İdea car rental company didnot gave the car. Then we said them to cancel the booking then since they donot give the car. They didnot cancel and they want us to solve the problem with Arguscarhire company. I contacted Arguscarhire company before the cancellation time. They coıldnot solve the problem. At the moment they got all the money from and refuse to give the car and nothing paid me back. They told me that they opened a case and they will get back to me in48 hours. 3 days passed I got no response! Not even an email. Now I see a reply to my review here saying 20 days to investigate!! I want my money back, I begin to think that I got scammed! You got all the money and gave no service! I informed you before the reservation time. What are you investigating? A normal company would pay the money back immediately and apologize.
