Google Workspace charged me despite my cancellation. I now hear this is quite common. When trying to call them, 2 of the 3 numbers I tried said that they were no longer taking calls at those numbers.... See more

Beware the hidden pitfalls
I upgraded my existing personal Gmail account to a Google Workspace account for an anticipated 14-day trial. I attempted to cancel after the trial elapsed, and discovered I had unknowingly committed to a one-year contract, and cancellation would require paying out the entire contract. I have not found it particularly useful; in fact, I only subscribed to access one set of functions in Sheets. I've also discovered a few "gotchas" I wasn't expecting: 1) A verified business domain name is required in order to obtain full admin privileges; upgrading from a personal Gmail account is NOT sufficient. 2) That verified business domain is available, apparently at an extra charge...from Google. 3) Full functionality is NOT available unless it is toggled in the admin dashboard...which is not available without the business domain, etc., etc. 4) Gemini will no longer be available as your default Digital Assistant in Android Auto if your personal Google account is upgraded to a Workspace account. 5) Customer service is abysmal. Chatbot-driven answers are unhelpful to the point of profanity, online documentation is too verbose and too technical for an average user, wait times for a real support human are glacial. 6) Billing cuts you no slack for being even one day over the trial period.
I have independent access to Docs and Sheets, and that was about all I needed. Much of my time is spent working offline, so most of Workspace is pointless for me. But the lack of portability of Gemini to Android Auto was a two-week head scratcher, and since I do so much research while driving, that security "feature" has been a huge problem. Workspace may be a great tool for larger enterprise clients, but it created nothing but problems (and a tremendous drain on my time) for me.
Shameless
Google workspace and squarespace act as robber barons, charging you and then not giving you the service you paid for. Google's customer service just copy pastes the same responses over and over without actually trying to resolve billing, transfer, and subscription change requests. The behavior is shameless.
Google Workspace, you cannot check out
I used Google Workspace to handle my new domain name. The first problem was I had to use an existing Google email to get started. Once I had the new domain and a new business email address, it was difficult to change the email address for the account to the new email address in the new domain. It was like I now had to accounts. After about 2 years, I switched my business email provider from Google to MS Outlook. (nothings perfect) I now can NOT cancel my Google subscriptions and they keep charging me. I've spent hours trying to cancel, followed the user guides, read some of the endless complaints from the "community." Their support is useless. It's recommended only for those who are trying to cure low blood pressure issues.
Opened a trial account
Opened a trial account, never renewed the subscription, I keep receiving invoices. Google is useless.
Difficult to cancel the 14 day google workspace trial
For the 14 day google workspace trial, it is very tricky to cancel. I thought I did in the 'manage my bill' section, but didn't notice the 'don't automate renew' section showing dates after 1 year.
Although I don't use it at all, now I can't leave the 1 year contract. Contacted google, they didn't help at all.
Google Workspace Illegally Charging After Subscription is Canceled
Google Workspace Illegally Charging After Subscription is Canceled.
Out of the blue, Google is charging me for a service I’ve never used. When I requested to cancel it, I was told I’d be charged an annual fee of nearly 80 euro. This is completely illegal and abusive. I haven’t been able to reach customer support or anything like that. It’s impossible to find help on the company’s website. I’m going to contact the consumer protection agency in Berlin.
Extremely disappointing experience with…
Extremely disappointing experience with Google Workspace billing support.
An unauthorized transaction is an unauthorized transaction. A charge made without my knowledge, approval, or consent is a serious matter and should be treated as such. I reported the charge immediately after discovering it, within less than 24 hours, yet my concern was not properly addressed.
Instead of focusing on the unauthorized charge, the response kept referring to subscription terms and annual commitments. Those explanations do not change the fact that the payment was not authorized by me.
A transaction processed without the customer’s consent is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about billing practices. I expected Google Workspace to investigate and resolve this matter properly, but my refund request was not handled in a satisfactory way.
Customers deserve transparency, accountability, and proper support when reporting unauthorized charges.
Google Getting from Bad to Worse
Google Getting from Bad to Worse
I am writing this review because I am officially fed up of the prompts in my email and drive
I have a paid workspace - I do not need daily advertising in my work software
Upgrade this , AI summary that, Security Pro Plus the other
Its so. very. incredibly annoying.
Gemini is very intrusive - it never leaves you alone, and its an absolutely awful programme.
It does nothing of any use - the Search in Drive has become 10 times worse since its introduction
Things and Features that used to be simple , are now all plonked under one single AI on or off button
Take it or leave it as Google says
Here, take my 1 star review.
Google workspace has been a nightmare…
Google workspace has been a nightmare for our school. After we trusted google to be in control of our school domain and major email accounts, we applied for an education console membership. The application has been in "pending approval" mode for over 6 months. Every 21 days it dumps our domain and our school-wide email goes dark and bounces important emails for about 24 hours as we scramble to get a real person to help us get back online and back into the queue. Then they suspend our users periodically and for no documented reason, which in our case are our STUDENTS who cannot verify their own accounts through SMS because they don't have their own phone numbers. Google has no work around for this-- they keep telling us to have the parents set up the children's accounts, but even if we did that we would still have to delete and remake a different user name for them every time it decides to suspend them because you cannot use the same one-- I cannot imagine how large schools handle this. We have under 50 students, and this is already a logistical nightmare every 21 days. Additionally, these user names in workspace also control their chromebook logins (ANOTHER STELLAR GOOGLE PRODUCT)... which if you can imagine those going down i the middle of a school day because the user was erroneously suspended... often. I don't know how or why any of this is ok. I would have paid thousands of dollars to not have to deal with this, but instead google has now hijacked my account and it can only be registered as a free education console now-- which is PENDING APPROVAL, FOREVER it seems. Someone please for the love of teachers, please fix this broken system! Clearly I am not the only one having these problems-- this company needs to take a hard look at these reviews and their ridiculous policies.
I spent 4,5 hours trying to regain…
I spent 4,5 hours trying to regain access to my Google Gemini Enterprise account. Therefore, I went through 3 support cases but the last one is still pending, even after a week. Google Cloud support does not react and I have been trying to solve it without any resolution. Result? Months of AI agent configuration in the trash bin and every day without access is a day without income. Important warning: Google claims to support accessibility for everyone, but unfortunately, this is not how entry or mid-level users experience the tool.
Google workspace is a never ending…
Google workspace is a never ending nightmare. I pay for two business emails. I got conned into adding two factor authentication to one of them and it is relentless. Depute using the same device all the time, it sends me scurrying to “verify it’s me trying to sign in”. I do that on my phone THEN, it displays a set of codes, I pick the one displayed. Every time. It’s painful. Even called Google, can’t take it off. Hate hate hate two factor nonsense.
Cancelled within 14 days, no refund and no human support
Absolutely awful service. Google has gated its support behind a Gemini AI chatbot instead of allowing customers to speak to a real person.
I cancelled the service after just 10 days and deleted my account within the 14-day cooling-off period. However, because I no longer have an active service, I cannot access the option to speak to an agent or even request a refund.
The support bot has the cognitive ability of a pebble, and the entire system is ridiculous: once you cancel, you lose access to the support needed to resolve your cancellation and refund. Absolutely shocking from a company the size of Google.
Update:
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations and Consumer Rights Act, I believe I was entitled to cancel within 14 days. Google has nevertheless retained my payment while providing no meaningful way to resolve the issue. I have now contacted my bank, and a payment dispute has been opened.
Absolutely disgusted - Google workspaces lack of logic and compassion
Absolutely disgusted. I will be leaving a google review against you guys.
"All people be aware of the lack of compassion of google workspace team.
Choose anybody else possible.
I created 3 email accounts and barely used 2 of them one wasn't even signed into (i will attach the image).
Google Cloud Segment (including Workspace): Recorded a total revenue of $58.7 billion and an operating profit of $5.3 billion in the final quarter alone (Q4 2025)."
I asked for around 60-70 dollars off my 91 dollar bill for a month which clearly i had made in error with email accounts that are too big in data and storage.
They told me as the accounts were active they couldn't help me.
I even have the image showing the various accounts with the 'last sign in ' column stating for that account 'Hasn't signed in'
I will be going elsewhere.
Googles workspaces "user" Dark pattern
I of course was victim to the Dark pattern google uses in the workspace Directory.... Thinking I was making aliases on the ACCOUNT I MADE AND PAID FOR, locked me into yearly contracts for each of the "users" I made on the account in the directory.
Their "support" has the ability to do absolutely F all, but their web UI can just instantly lock me into yearly contracts with 0 prompting and no fix, should be investigated by consumer affairs agencies. I Will never recommend google to anyone.
Ill be going back to normal emails and everything. I'd only recently given in and changed over because of the ability to sign into websites with the google prompt, well that just cost me $960 to learn never to deal with google in a business sense.
Google Workspace locks you into annual…
Google Workspace locks you into annual contracts without any clear warning or reminders, keeps charging you even if you don’t use the service, and then demands a $364 “closeout fee” just to cancel. I even used the free trial and canceled two days after trying it and was still charged.
Customer support is useless. AI stonewalls you. And you can't contact am actual person workout having access.
At this point the only way to stop them is to cancel your credit card. This is not a service, it’s extortion.

Extremely poor billing experience across both Google Cloud and Google Workspace.
I have dealt with recurring payment issues caused by Google’s own billing systems, not by my card, bank, or refusal to pay. My payment method is valid and has successfully been charged by Google before.
For Google Cloud, Google successfully deducted SGD 20.22 on 1 June 2026, proving the card works. Google Cloud support later confirmed in writing that when the balance is below the minimum automatic transaction threshold, Google may not even attempt to charge the card. Despite that, a separate automated system can still mark the account as past due, send payment warnings, and create suspension risk for linked projects.
In plain terms: a valid low-usage customer can be punished because the bill is too small for Google’s own billing system to charge.
Their “solution” was not to fix the billing behavior. Their solution was basically to ask me to preload SGD 50 or SGD 100, or use a reseller. That is not a fix. That is asking the customer to overpay in advance to work around Google’s own system limitation.
Google Workspace support was even worse.
Workspace is handled by a separate department from Google Cloud, with different support personnel and different billing amounts, but the same kind of billing chaos happened. Google showed me an amount of SGD 37.13, and I paid that amount in full on 30 May because that was the amount Google presented to me at the time. Then on 1 June, Google suddenly requested an additional SGD 1.24 and began flagging payment issues again.
Workspace support kept avoiding the actual issue. Instead of explaining why Google showed me a lower payable amount the day before, they kept implying that I should have paid the full amount. But I paid the full amount Google displayed to me at the time. The remaining SGD 1.24 was not clearly calculated or presented when I made the payment. I had to investigate and work out myself that this mysterious SGD 1.24 likely related to the final day of their prorated cycle.
This is unacceptable.
Google Workspace support came across as clueless, evasive, and more interested in pushing the blame back onto the customer than actually solving the billing issue. They could not provide a proper explanation, could not provide a real solution, and their only practical suggestion was for me to dump extra money into Google as overpayment.
That is not customer support. That is asking customers to lock up money with Google just to avoid Google’s own broken billing behavior. That money could have been kept in my own account or used elsewhere instead of being parked with Google as a workaround for their system limitation.
Meanwhile, the system floods customers with reminders and threatens suspension of services and domain access over tiny residual amounts that were not clearly presented at the time of payment.
A business customer should not have to investigate Google’s billing calculations themselves while support gives generic answers, avoids the actual facts, and the system threatens service suspension.
A valid customer with a valid payment method should not have to worry that Google Cloud projects, Firebase billing, Workspace services, or domains may be suspended because of tiny residual balances, unclear prorated charges, or minimum transaction thresholds.
The support staff may sound polite, but the billing systems and support process are deeply flawed. Google Cloud confirmed the issue and offered no direct fix. Google Workspace support failed to properly explain the SGD 1.24 until I traced the likely cause myself, while continuing to push the burden back onto me.
For small businesses, low-usage apps, Firebase projects, and Workspace users, this is a serious service continuity risk. I no longer feel confident using Google Cloud or Google Workspace billing for business-critical services.
My God what a disaster this product is
My God what a disaster this product is! Beware! hidden price locking, verification system that does not work, I could go on. If this is a 'business product' Google need to go back to school/
Like other reviewers here
Like other reviewers here, I have a business account and I cannot even log in to the ^&* thing. Admin resets (myself) and correct passwords, correct SMS codes, correctly identified phone numbers, and even used a passkey, and it STILL will not let me login!!!
Enrolled into a higher-cost plan through a dark pattern, charged for 15 months, then stonewalled by support
In February 2024, Google placed my Google Workspace account into read-only mode due to exceeded storage limits. My team could not upload files or create documents. The only solution Google presented was a prompt to "acquire more storage."
Clicking that prompt enrolled my account in Google Workspace Business Standard — a plan I never knowingly selected and that cost significantly more than my existing Business Starter plan. There was no clear disclosure that I was changing subscription plans or agreeing to a higher monthly price. The upgrade was registered on February 6, 2024, the day after Google sent the storage emergency email.
That is a dark pattern: create urgency, block access, present one button as the solution, and bury the subscription change in the process.
I was charged for Business Standard for over 15 months before I noticed. When I contacted Google Workspace Support (Case #71450512), I presented the full documented sequence:
February 1, 2024: Google notifies me of a price change for Business Starter
February 5, 2024: Google warns my account is in read-only mode, urges me to "acquire more storage"
February 6, 2024 at 06:16 AM: Account is transitioned to Business Standard
Google's response across five different support agents: the services were available, so the charges stand. Not one agent addressed the deceptive enrollment sequence I documented. On the final interaction, I was redirected to Google's legal subpoena process — meaning their own support team acknowledged this was no longer a support matter.
I was charged for 15 months of overcharges I will not recover.
If you are considering Google Workspace, start here: when you sign up, Google pushes Business Standard as the default and makes it easy to miss that Business Starter even exists. That alone tells you everything about how they operate. The cheaper plan is deliberately buried so you start on a higher tier without realizing there was another option.
Once you are a customer, their Admin Console contains prompts that can change your subscription plan without making the billing consequences obvious. Check your plan and billing history from day one. And if something goes wrong, their support process is designed to exhaust you, not resolve your issue.

Worst service I have ever seen, everything is automated, nothing gets solved. You pay and eat shit, or just leave and eat shit elsewhere.
