Alamo France are a scam business -AVOID
Alamo France are a scam business. They took our money, and then a day before told us they didn’t have a car. After wasting several hours trying to get another car they told us to come early in the next morning to try to see if there was return. We pointed out that there was dents on that car but the lady staff member said the car was new and not to worry. We took photos anyway. When we returned the vehicle they deducted $3000 euro without authorization saying we damaged the vehicle. We went to their office and the staff at that office agreed it was preexisting and that she would write an email to their head office to have the case reviewed. They refused to let us take photos and screamed at us to go away when we tried to get photos.
They refuse to return the money despite having photo evidence. They tried the same stunt with our travel companions as well at the same time. Obviously very dodgy,
Do not ever use Alamo/enterprise. It’s a big scam!
I would never rent from this company again…
I would never rent from this company again when traveling to the Marseille Provence Airport (owned by Enterprise). We picked up the car for a long weekend and drove to the BnB we were staying at in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region and parked. The next morning we woke up to a completely flat tire! The mechanic who fixed it for us said there was a slow leak and the company likely filled the tire with air prior to us renting the car. That is money I had to spend to fix something that should have been fixed prior. Then came the second flat tire the day after... fine, bad luck. But everything is closed on Sundays and we flew out Monday early morning. Alamo/their roadside recovery sent a tow truck and took procession of the car since it could not be driven or fixed same day. After emailing them multiple times to get the paperwork and itemized bill I needed to make a claim to my insurance, they emailed me two and a half weeks later after charging my card within the first week and no communication! Then when I finally received an "itemized" bill, they are charging me for storage of the vehicle even though they took procession of the car, plus a full day of "lost use" of the car even though it was going to be returned the day of "storage." I 100% DO NOT recommend renting from this company - poor communication if something happens, lack of transparency when needing to make a claim, and up-charging customers.
Alamo Car Rental Fraudulent Damage Claim
Beware: Disputed "Accident Damage" Claim After Return — Alamo/Enterprise Marseille Airport
I rented a one-way vehicle through DiscoverCars.com with pickup at Avignon TGV and drop-off at Marseille Airport (May 7–15). I want to share our experience so other travelers can protect themselves.
At pickup in Avignon, the vehicle already had numerous small chips and marks. When we raised this, the agent showed us a sizing tool used to determine what counts as reportable damage, and assured us that chips below a certain size were not a concern. Based on that assurance, we didn't bother filming close-ups of these minor marks — we filmed general walk-around video instead, which is normally more than sufficient documentation.
At drop-off, due to an early flight, we followed Alamo's own stated procedure: leave the car in the designated return area and drop the keys in the secure box. We again filmed a walk-around video. We received an immediate rental satisfaction survey and rated the experience positively — we had no issues with the car itself.
Later that same day, we received an email notifying us of an Accident Damage Claim (File #80030237) for a windshield chip, billed at €150. The official Vehicle Condition Report on file showed no recorded damage. When we asked for evidence, Alamo sent two photos: one where no damage was visible at all, and a separate close-up of a small chip — with a dashboard that did not appear to match the interior of the car we had driven. Neither photo, nor any evidence provided, established that this damage occurred during our rental period.
We disputed the charge, pointing out (1) no evidence was given that the damage occurred during our possession of the vehicle, and (2) Alamo never addressed the assurance we'd been given in Avignon that minor chips like this were not something to document closely. DiscoverCars.com, our booking platform, told us they couldn't assist because we hadn't purchased their additional insurance add-on — despite our having separate comprehensive travel insurance covering rental vehicles.
My advice to anyone renting from this location: film close-up, timestamped video of every single mark on the car, no matter how small, regardless of what any agent tells you about "minor" damage thresholds — and do the same in extreme close-up at drop-off, even if you're told to just leave the keys in a box. Get a printed/emailed condition report at both ends if at all possible. Save every communication.
We felt the process gave us no real way to defend ourselves against a charge for damage we do not believe occurred during our rental. We will be taking this case to the French Consumer Protection Agency (DGCCRF)
Cabin baggage destruction
Trying to enter the Alamo office at Marseille airport to get my car rental my cabin bag was damaged beyond repair from a metal sheet at the pavement just before the office entrance, a damage that was shown to the person in charge and documented with photographs. Up to now and after several emails with local office and the customer service agent all I got were promises that they will deal with my request with no answer from the airport office.
Rip off merchants
Perpignan airport gave me a car that was 3/4 full and told me to bring it back 3/4. I brought it back 7/8 full. I shook hands with the agent that it was as agreed. Then a day later they charged by 30 Euros for fuel ! I am still arguing with them 3 weeks later. They said they would refund it a 2 weeks ago but they haven't. Strongly recommend using any company except Alamo in Perpignan- they will rip you off with arrogance and impunity.
Very disappointing experience with…
Very disappointing experience with Alamo Bergerac
The problems started at collection, where we waited approximately 45 minutes before being served. After a long journey, this was not the start we were hoping for.
The main issue then arose when my Monzo Mastercard was refused for the security deposit because I was told it was issued by a digital-only bank. As a result, my wife's credit card had to be used and she was added as an additional driver at extra cost, despite not driving the vehicle at any point during the rental.
To make matters worse, the vehicle was supplied showing effectively no fuel remaining. The fuel gauge was red-lined and the range indicator displayed 0 km remaining. This immediately forced us to find a petrol station in an unfamiliar area and created unnecessary stress at the start of our holiday.
Following the rental, I submitted a formal complaint detailing these issues and requesting a response. I have not received any acknowledgement or reply whatsoever.
What has disappointed me most is not just the issues themselves, but the complete lack of customer service afterwards. I attempted to resolve the matter directly before leaving a public review, but received no response.
The vehicle itself was fine, but the collection process, additional charges and lack of after-sales support have left a very poor impression. Based on this experience, I would not choose Alamo again.
Really poor experience with Alamo at Lyon airport
Really poor experience with Alamo at Lyon airport. My wife had her handbag stolen the day before travelling loosing her bank cards and driving licence - this was going to come back to haunt us! We had a car booked for our arrival and after a flight delayed by an hour we were met with a long queue. After another hour of queuing we were told that despite me being a named driver, we would not be able to hire the car, due to not having my wife’s licence. We spoke with the manager who went on to explain that we could not transfer the named driver to myself and because we were more than 2 hours late, our car had been let go - despite having had to wait for an hour in their queue! To rub salt into the wound, the manager was not even vaguely sympathetic. The result: we were stuck at Lyon airport with 2 kids, no transport in 34 degree heat. Thanks Alamo! I would have given 0 stars if it was an option.
Terrible experience
Terrible experience. Having rented from them several times they decided, after we booked and turned up for the car, that they were no longer accepting our payment card, despite several payments with it. Very rude staff, possibly xenophobic. They need to sort themselves out. No apologies. Awful place. Don't bother
Cauchemar
I rented a vehicle through Alamo Rent A Car in Cape Town Southafrica (15–18 February 2026).
A €975 deposit was taken.
Alamo has replied: “Please note your deposit has been released in full.”
However, €975 has been fully debited from my bank account — this is not a pending authorisation, it is a completed charge.
The transaction appears to have been processed by an Avis agency, which belongs to the same group.
€975 has been taken from my account without any justification or explanation.
Alamo now says they are not responsible.
If the deposit has truly been released, please provide official banking proof (ARN number and release date), as my bank confirms the payment was captured.
I am requesting urgent clarification.

Disputed Damage Claim & Immediate…
Disputed Damage Claim & Immediate €3,500 Charge – Extremely Disappointing
I have rented from Alamo multiple times in the past and was always satisfied — until this experience.
After returning the vehicle at Lyon Airport, I was informed of alleged rear bumper and sensor damage that was never shown to me at pick-up. The car had displayed a rear sensor warning from day one, yet this was ignored.
Despite formally disputing the claim, Alamo immediately charged the full €3,500 deductible before establishing liability. I was told this is “standard procedure,” even though no dated evidence from pick-up was provided.
The charge placed my account into overdraft while I am still waiting (up to 75 days) for a repair estimate.
The handling of this case has been rigid and procedural rather than transparent and customer-oriented. I expected better from a global brand.
I strongly recommend staying away from this company. Also recommend future customers carefully document the vehicle with timestamped photos and video at pick-up and return. Very disappointing experience.
I am writing to formally complain about…
I am writing to formally complain about the unacceptable service I received from your car rental company.
I had a confirmed reservation for 05/01/2026 at 16:00, with reservation number [772748565] with Booking .com.Due to delays, I arrived at the service desk at 17:50 and waited in the queue. When I reached the desk,it was 17:58 the staff member informed me that the office was closed and told me to return the next day at 09:00, refusing to provide any assistance. Please check CCTV images as proof of my arrival time to your office on 05-06 of January 2026
I politely explained that I urgently needed the car to travel to another city and asked for help, but the staff member was rude, dismissive, and walked away without offering any solution.
Because of this, I was forced to rent a car from another company at additional cost of £95 just to return home, and then travel back again the next day as instructed.
When I returned the following day, I was told that no 5-seat vehicle was available and that only a 2-seat car could be offered. When I explained that this was unacceptable and did not meet my reservation, the staff member told me that my reservation was canceled and said, “You can do anything you want and call anyone you want.”
This behavior was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. I suffered financial loss, inconvenience, and stress due to your company’s failure to honor my reservation and your staff’s rude treatment.
Feels wrong to even give them 1 star
Feels wrong to even give them 1 star. We arrived in Reims, France by train to be told by that there were 'no cars available' even though we had pre-booked 6 weeks in advance and paid a deposit. We needed to drive 3hrs to our accommodation so were stranded in Reims with no car and nowhere to stay. This was in September and we still haven't received a refund for our deposit let alone any compensation. This was a terribly stressful experience and every email has been met with an auto-generated bot. I couldn't recommend this company less.
Horrible service!
They rent cars in Kittilä without engine heater and won’t accept responsibility when car won’t start in extreme cold! Very rude customer service, I can never recommend this company!
The only word to say SCAMMERS!!!!
The only word to say SCAMMERS!!!!

I strongly advise against this company
I strongly advise against this company. If you want to keep your deposit intact: look elsewhere! A severe lack of professionalism, blatantly obvious and successful scam attempts; I have few words: AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Run away
Run away, it's a disaster! They take thousands of euros from your account, even with a debit card. No one was there to inspect the vehicle upon arrival, and no one was there to check it when you left. The vehicle was parked right up against the wall so they couldn't see the damage on the right side; you couldn't even get your arm in. They're just 20-year-olds trying to get around. It's a complete disaster! louer en Novembre 2025 Mme M .V
Never rent from this Avignon TGV office…
Never rent from this Avignon TGV office which handles Alamo, Enterprise and National. Do pay attention to other reviews. First they gave me a car in a lower cost group than what I paid for. Second they never emailed me my contract. Third they never answered their phone (made about a dozen attempts) nor did they respond to corporate Alamo. When ever anyone complains they send a stock answer about customer service and encourage you to contact them, but the link goes to corporate customer service and I found it useless. A nod to the Alamo office in Nice where I dropped the car. It took the checkin guy a minute to email me my contract and he reduced the price to compensate for the cheaper car I was given.
Huge bill for a puncture...
I rented an ID3 from Alamo at Lyon Airport. At first everything was as fantastic. The car was great. I had rented an EV to get to know the experience of living with an electric vehicle.
A couple of days into the rental we experienced a simple puncture. Seems the very low profile tyres were not pothole proof. Then the trouble started. There is no spare tire. We were some way from a main town in the Alps on a Sunday. We had to have road assistance attend to the vehicle (for a a simple puncture)only to discover they could not replace the tyre with a spare. It was towed and a cab was called to take us home. We had our vehicle replaced by a totally sub-standard vehicle, not an EV which we had contracted for. We had the hire for a total of 9 days, 4 with the EV and 5 with a standard petrol car. Then we had our full deposit deducted from our card, €1700, with a promise of a partial refund after the repair costs were assessed. A few days later we were refunded just over €300, making our puncture cost us just over €1300. It is 5 weeks later and we still do not have the final invoice justifying this charge. Despite repeated emails to Alamo this has still not been forthcoming. I am unable to even attempt to claim these costs from my insurance due to the lack of paperwork from Alamo.
Come on Alamo, do the right thing. If you can charge me the money then you know how much it was, why the total ghosting and no explanation for a €1330 charge for a simple puncture.
I am at a loss for words and very, very disappointed in this total lack of any service whatsoever. I simply cannot in good conscience recommend you to any of my friends or family!

I never thought I would leave a positive review for a car hire company but I am! I rented a car from Bergerac and returned it to Toulouse. At both ends the staff were extremely polite and friendly. I rent a lot of cars but these guys really stood out. Thank you
