A Sixt employee drove a vehicle over…

A Sixt employee drove a vehicle over our ski bag at a pedestrian crossing while my husband was crossing on the way to the airport. The driver refused to stop and deal with it, but several witnesses — including two of his own colleagues — documented the incident in writing. The car crushed the ski bag’s wheels and base beyond repair and damaged one ski. A Sixt representative at the airport gave us contact details and told us the damage would be covered by corporate insurance.

I submitted the witness statement, photos, and the receipt, and requested reimbursement. Six months and endless follow-ups later, I have nothing — not even the rental voucher I offered to accept to make it simple. A straightforward case handled with total indifference.

extremely disappointing .

extremely disappointing .. sneakily charged 59 euros for a late pick up which was not the case - they eventually refunded this after i complained - but charged almost 3 times the per litre rate for not bringing the car back with a full tank . i understand there are penalties but 235 euros for 43 litres of unleaded thats 5.46 per litre . This after it was impossible to opt for a refuel penalty of 28 euros on the app in advance which did not work and the local area having an unleaded fuel shortage . Customer service is copy paste chatgpt. avoid , avoid avoid ....

And following your reply sixt you have not addressed the fact that your app does not work when you want to " add refuel payment" , that fact that there was no 95 unleaded available in the area hence mitigating circumstances or the fact that your penalty rates are written so small and hidden within the contract and are NOT pointed out correctly at the time of rental ..Yes you refunded the made up "late pick up " fine but only after I checked my invoice.
I have canceled my account with Sixt and would warn all potential and existing clients to do the same.
Customer service is about damage limitation - anyone can receive a complaint but its how you deal with it that counts . Carry on digging your hole .

Hello,

Regarding the €59 out-of-hours charge, this matter has already been reviewed following your complaint. The charge was cancelled and refunded.

Regarding the refuelling charge, the vehicle was provided with a full tank (8/8) and returned with a fuel level of 2/8. As no fuel service was included in your rental, the vehicle was required to be returned with the same fuel level as at pick-up.

The applicable refuelling price and service fee were also clearly stated in the rental agreement. Therefore, the refuelling charge remains applicable.

Kind regards,

They gave my car away and left me stranded at a remote airport

They gave my car away and left me stranded at a remote airport. The car I had booked and paid for, and had been told was ready and waiting when I took off, was given to someone else on the same flight when I landed. They had no more cars, and told me to go to a hotel and come back tomorrow. Everything is automated, which is ok when it works, when it doesn't you are stuck on hold, or on whatsapp in an airport car park. Very dissapointing.
The next day I went back and was given a different car, and had to pay the difference, and wait for a refund.

Hello,

We are sincerely sorry for this experience and fully understand your disappointment.

Unfortunately, unforeseen operational issues related to fleet availability, such as a vehicle becoming unavailable due to a breakdown or necessary repairs, can occasionally prevent us from providing the vehicle originally planned, despite a confirmed reservation.

We can confirm that your initial reservation was cancelled free of charge and fully refunded.

Regarding the new reservation you made following this incident, we would of course like to take the inconvenience you experienced into consideration. Please send us the new reservation number by email at service@sixt.fr, so that our Customer Service team can review the situation and assess an appropriate goodwill gesture.

Kind regards,

Sixt charged me €39 per fine just to forward my address to the police - which they must do anyway, for free. I got three fines from the authorities. My mistake, I understand. Sixt charged me additional €117. MORE then the actual fees. They refunded one after I complained, refused two identical others with no real reason. This is how the "fees" work here. Renting elsewhere.

Good Morning,

We would like to clarify that the €39 charges are administrative processing fees and not additional fines imposed by SIXT.

When a traffic violation is committed with a SIXT vehicle, the notice is addressed to us as the registered owner. Each violation therefore requires an individual administrative process, including identifying the relevant rental and providing the required information to the competent authority.

In your case, three separate violations resulted in three separate administrative processes. The applicable €39 fee per violation is clearly stated in our Rental Terms and in the rental agreement accepted at the time of rental.

Furthermore, one of these administrative fees has already been refunded to you as a goodwill gesture, despite the charges having been correctly applied. We therefore consider that an appropriate commercial solution has already been provided.

The fines themselves remain entirely separate and are issued by the competent authorities.

Kind regards,
SIXT

DO NOT RENT FROM SIXT

A very unsavoury experience with Sixt, like an assassin they come with smiles, until you get home and find charges that in no way have been discussed with the client.
Sadly we could not even consider dealing with them again.
Please be very aware that if your rental car is towed, Sixt dither and let things drift on and then hit you with a bill from hell.
Those smiles are fake folks. Watch these guys closely.

We made a reservation one month ago at the office of Malaga railway station , but our reservation served for nothing.
After nearly one hour waiting to take the car, the agent told us that they didn’t have manual car, which was our choice and we were forced to take automatic one and to pay additional tax for the second driver, because I don’t have experience with automatic car. Inspite that the agent told that he will make a gesture for the causing inconvenience, our card was debited after we left the car.
It doesn’t matter if you make your reservation in advance, because Sixt don’t keep their word!

A company of thieves run by a thief (just look at his LinkedIn profile) who don’t even need to hide anymore! Like thousands of other people, I fell for the “scratch scam” at the Nice airport! The fraud committed by this gang of thugs is on an industrial scale! After sending dozens of emails and a certified letter to the CEO threatening to take them to court in France, they canceled the €601 bill! Stay away from SIXT!

My flight was cancelled on the night we were due to arrive, rang to amend the booking which we were told had been done. Landed in Nice at the time specified, no car. Absolute joke of a company, I know they are all as bad as each other, but these were worse than useless from the ‘customer service centre’, yeah right, to the gormless staff in there ill fitting suits at the airport.

False damage claims

We rented a car for four days and returned it in perfect condition - the employee said everything was good and there were no problems, we even received the receipt saying so. But they park the cars on the street, where they can be easily be damaged. Four days after we returned the car, we received an email saying the car was damaged. They charged us €750 for a 3 cm scratch on the bumper and refused to talk to us about the damage. Sixt responded to another review and told us to email their customer service email. I sent multiple emails and they never responded. Never, ever rent a car from Sixt, especially in Annecy.

⭐ 1/5

⭐ 1/5 – Very disappointing experience with Sixt France

We had a very poor experience with Sixt at the airport in France. We waited for approximately one hour because their payment/card terminal stopped working, and the service was slow and unhelpful.

We were then given a different car from the one we had selected and booked. Even worse, nearly three months after returning home, we are still receiving new bills and unexpected charges from Sixt. It feels like the invoices never stop, and it is extremely frustrating not to have a clear overview of what we are being charged for.

Based on our experience, we would not rent from Sixt France again.

SHAME ON SIXT CDG

SHAME ON SIXT CDG — OUR WORST RENTAL CAR EXPERIENCE EVER

After a 10-hour flight from Los Angeles to Paris, exhausted and already dealing with Europcar refusing to honor our reservation at the confirmed rate, we walked over to Sixt at Charles de Gaulle Airport hoping for a better experience.

The Sixt agent seemed caring and reassuring. He strongly recommended an electric Opel Frontera, telling us it would be easy: approximately 350 km between charges and about 20 minutes to recharge.

We trusted him.

What followed became one of the biggest sources of stress of our entire vacation.

We left CDG with the battery showing 100%. After driving only about 45 km, we were shocked to see that approximately 45% of the battery had already been consumed.

And that was only the beginning.

Instead of enjoying our vacation, we found ourselves constantly thinking about the next charging station, whether it would be available, how long we would have to wait, and whether we had enough battery to get there.

The worst experience was our drive from Tours to Bayonne.

A trip that should have taken approximately 5½ hours ended up taking us around 12 HOURS because of repeated charging stops and waiting. We even witnessed people arguing over who was first in line for a charger.

The “charge every 350 km” experience we believed we were getting felt more like worrying about charging roughly every 100 km under our actual travel conditions.

And then came the part that truly disappointed us.

We contacted Sixt asking to exchange the electric vehicle for a gasoline car.

Rather than recognizing that the rental experience was dramatically different from what had been represented to us at the counter, we received no meaningful resolution—and were told it could cost approximately €600 EXTRA to change vehicles.

This was on top of a rental already costing us approximately €2,000 for three weeks.

When we raised the enormous difference between what we had been told and what we were actually experiencing, explanations included the vehicle, luggage, passengers, driving conditions, etc.

Of course those factors can affect an electric vehicle’s range. But that is precisely the kind of information a customer traveling with four pieces of luggage and passengers needs BEFORE being persuaded to choose an EV for a long-distance road trip.

Had someone simply told us:

“Your real-world range may be dramatically lower than 350 km depending on load, speed and conditions, and long-distance travel could require frequent and lengthy charging stops,”

we would NEVER have rented this vehicle.

That is the heart of my complaint.

This isn’t simply about an electric car. It is about accurate information, appropriate recommendations, customer service and taking responsibility when a customer says, “This is not the experience we were sold.”

A good company has an opportunity to show its character when something goes wrong. You listen. You find a reasonable solution. You try to save the customer’s vacation.

Sixt had that opportunity. They did not take it.

After decades of renting cars and traveling internationally, this was easily among the worst and most stressful rental experiences we have ever had.

Travelers arriving at Paris CDG, especially those planning long-distance driving in France: ask detailed questions before accepting an electric vehicle. Get the realistic highway range in writing. Ask about charging times, charging infrastructure and what it will cost if the vehicle doesn’t work for your trip.

We learned that lesson the hard way.

No more Sixt for us.

Sixt France, I sincerely hope someone in leadership reads this and understands that this was never just about the car.

It was about the way your customer was treated after the promises made at the counter did not match the reality on the road.

Never use sixt Corsica

Never use sixt Corsica - they are scammers

Quite a long queue. I was given electric car when I booked a petrol car. The woman was quite rude saying they only have electric and if I don’t want it I should cancel and go elsewhere - at 9pm at night with massive queues at all the rental places and I have 2 tired and hungry kids.. The car was filthy with scratches that weren’t recorded on the form and it wasn’t fully charged - no one in the car park to help. Never using sixt again.

I rented a small Peugeot van from Metz

I rented a small Peugeot van from Metz, Woippy.
It had very worn front tyres that made it difficult to drive.
I only had to drive locally so I returned the vehicle as soon as possible.
They accepted the return but two weeks later, claimed that the front tyre was missing.
I returned the vehicle in front of the office window and gave the keys to the staff and it definitely had the four tyres that it came with!
Avoid this place.

My complaint remains UNRESOLVED

I have just seen the reply from SIXT France to my prior review of their appalling service from the SIXT location at Figari Airport in Corsica .

This further reply will correct serious errors in that reply by SIXT:

1) I still await the refund they promised me 55 Days after the poor service. They have promised it, in writing, but STILL no refund

2) SIXT say that some locations like Corsica are franchises, so they in effect, blame them for the shocking service I suffered. In that case, CANCEL that franchise and do not ruin your brand by allowing a bunch of allegedly rogue operators like this one to use the SIXT name

3) My REPEATED attempts to get SIXT to resolve my complaint have been fruitless and that’s why I am posting this.

So, the latest response from SIXT is wrong, misleading and factually incorrect and it proves again that their apologies mean nothing.

Other potential customers should think long and hard before renting a car from SIXT as my experience shows that they do not care about customers.

My message to SIXT is to issue the refund without any further delay or I will post weekly updates until you do.

Sixt Charles De Gaulle airport

Sixt Charles De Gaulle airport: Run! run!

You have a breakdown with your vehicle, the assistance directs you to SIXT for a replacement vehicle, and Sixt takes the opportunity to clear your pockets! That’s what happened to me during the first weekend of a heatwave. The assistance of the insurance is the customer and the client of Sixt, so the one who will pay the invoice, except that Sixt does not tell you that it adds a line that will be your responsibility. After going to the counter to collect the vehicle, the Sixt employee shows me a digital tablet to sign the rental contract; he tells me that a deposit of 150 will be blocked with my bank card. The text on the tablet only shows a box for the signature and a checkbox "I accept the terms...". The contract is not presented on paper and I only discover it once signed! For me, its content is the result of negotiation by the assistance. The employee does not inform me that an amount will be payable by me. So it’s a forced sale. Moreover, I am told that it is up to me to check the condition of the vehicle and take photos (difficult in a poorly lit underground parking lot). Three days after the return of the vehicle, my bank account goes up in flames. Sixt does what he wants as soon as we insert the card into the reader. I see an operation go by, then the next day it is canceled and finally €243 are deducted 5 days after return. After two complaints, Sixt tells me the amount deducted corresponds to the protection I purchased and for which I signed... 17 days after the contract was signed. I filed a complaint for forced sale.

Charging for damage we didn't cause

Collected a car at 9.45pm from Marseille airport- pitch black, had an hour to report all the damage to the car. Couldn't see most of it as parked close to another in the dark. There were lots of scratches pre-existing, most of which I tried to take photos of. One large scratch we reported, and they said they knew about that.
On return 4 days later, guy went over it with fine tooth comb determined to find damage. Took him over 10 minutes to check the car.
We had not caused any damage- we are honest enough to admit it if we did.
Guy said there was a 1cm scratch on plastic wheel arch which wasn't there when we picked it up - we disagreed but had to leave for our flight. A bill arrived by email for £600- for repair- not that they will repair it - judging by the number of scratches existing on the car. Where did that number come from??

We have repeatedly asked for evidence that the damage did not exist - ie picture of wheel area date and time stamped before we collected- but none has been forthcoming- just repeated emails asking for payment. No correspondence, just uncompromising demands for payment.

Resigned to having to pay, as the French system of complaints is too complicated- and they know this.... this has ruined our holiday.

BEWARE- check every inch of a car you collect from Sixt, and photograph all of it-you have an hour to report all the existing damage.
We will never again rent front this company, and I advise no one else to either.
Following reply below saying claims dept will be in touch- email asking for booking number and phone number - no contact .....
1 Sept- still no contact.... appalling

don’t rent a car here

We rented a car at Toulon airport. We already paid for it online, 1.200 euro’s for 3 weeks. When we almost arrived at the airport, still in the airplane, I got a text from Sixt that I could check in already for the car, already pay the deposit (300 euro) and didn’t have to wait for my keys and directly could go. We arrived at the car rental place at 2 p.m. and had to wait there till closing time 4 p.m. The reason was that the employee from sixt at the car rental place told us we didn’t paid yet for the car and the deposit. We showed my bank transfers to their employee and confirmation that we have paid in the e-mail from sixt itself. The employee woman still say that she can’t see it on her computer that we had paid. She told us that we have to call our own bank to ask what happened, but the banktransfer was already made from our bank, so there was a problem on Sixt company. We told her many times to call her company headquarters or her executive, but she refused. We Stayed at the car rental for like 2 hours till closing time. But suddenly 5 minutes before closing time, the women from sixt, could call here executive. And at 4 p.m. (closing time) they suddenly saw there was paid, and we could take the car.
The whole 2 hours, they tried to let us pay in total 1.500 euro’s. I refused because I know I already paid.
It shows, that this company, tries to rob us from our own money. If I was you and read this, I should never trust this company.

This was a really bad experience because we just jumped of a plane and had to wait 2 hours for our car. We are never ever going to rent a car at this bad company.
