Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; 1 finding(s) above severity 'nit' rule out APPROVE.
Scope matches the title: the NetworkMode→provider migration is one coherent stack (sandbox2 NetPlan/PlannedLaunch/Network trait, minimald provider.rs, exec/session/mip callers, e2e proof) and every hunk traces to it. Large (25 files) but internally consistent. Clobber none: git log on the touched files shows the head commit at 4d425bc on top of a clean base; no recent fix is silently reverted. Correctness the release accounting is airtight — count(plan) = count(attach) + count(abandon) holds on the session path and on every task-path branch (failed attach, mid-release select drop, receiver drop), and the new tests prove the two racy branches; one finding below (own-IP tasks register the session's DNS name, never deregistered). Also checked and clean: gitleaks, and the netns-pid/tap-fd plumbing resolves on all four deployment models. Not checked no build was run (out of scope); gvproxy POST /services/dns/add upsert semantics are inferred from the zone-add body, not observed, and the DNS claim is the one place that matters. The drop-without-wait net teardown on the task path (HakoniwaProcess dropped before wait would leak a lease) was considered and dropped: exec tasks are spawned detached and only the whole runtime shutting down can drop the future mid-task, which is exactly the case the design calls harmless.
What ran
4 probe(s), all self-reported — e 8000 very entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. rg -n 'dns/remove|services/dns' crates -g '*.rs' — exit 0 · self-reported
Only
/services/dns/addexists (crates/minimald/src/net/policy.rs:216). No DNS record removal path anywhere in the tree, so a registered name is never deregistered.
2. rg -n 'register_dns_name' crates/minimald/src — exit 0 · self-reported
Single call site in gvproxy_network.rs:130 (finish_own_ip_attach), reached by every own-IP attach. Both the session shell (session_host.rs:2258 via network_for) and own-IP tasks (exec.rs:230 via task_network) pass the same session name, so both register the same zone record.
3. Read crates/minimald/src/net/gvproxy_network.rs OwnIpGuard::teardown — self-reported
Teardown removes ingress and detaches the PTask but never touches the DNS record; the relay/control drop and the record survives the task.
4. git log --oneline -5 and gitleaks detect --no-git --source . — exit 0 · self-reported
Head 4d425bc sits directly on base 43183a4; no reverted fixes. gitleaks reported no findings.

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; 1 finding(s) above severity 'nit' rule out APPROVE.
Scope matches the title: the mode-to-provider factory, the own-IP provider with its plan/attach/abandon sequence, both sandbox paths moved onto it, and the own-IP task fix (017-005). The Cargo.lock/mctx/op/sandbox2 churn is all the mode→plan migration. Clobber none: git log on the changed files shows the two PR commits on top of the base; nothing reverts a recent fix. Correctness the launch-sequence bookkeeping is unusually tight — the std-mutex reservation that is never held across an await, PlannedLaunch's Drop-based release, and NetRelease's cancel-safe teardown are all argued and each is pinned by a unit test (017-002, 017-008, 017-010). I checked the mctx Env::build default change (old needs_dns/needs_internet logic) and it is a no-op: old make_env already forced Some(HostNet) unconditionally. The resolv.conf move from the synth dir to write_resolv_conf in new_container preserves the Host/NoNet behaviours. One finding below, about the identity/ingress a task inherits colliding with the session's own PTask on the switch. Not checked: anything needing a build (the attached() counter semantics and gvproxy's duplicate DNS/forward handling are read, not executed).
What ran
5 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. git show 43183a4 vs head: mctx Env::build network decision — self-reported
Old code defaulted to NoNet only when override_network_mode was None; make_env always passed Some(HostNet), so the new with_network(args.network) default is behavior-preserving. Concern dropped.
2. grep -rn 'make_env(' crates/mip crates/mctx — exit 0 · self-reported
Callers of Context::make_env are mip run/rexec and mctx EnvChannel; all previously got HostNet, unchanged by the diff.
3. sed -n '410,475p' crates/minimald/src/exec.rs — self-reported
HakoniomaProcess::wait releases the net on every terminal arm; release() is idempotent (guard taken once, running JoinHandle survives a dropped wait). No double-release or leak found.
4. grep/sed crates/minimald/src/net/gvproxy_network.rs + policy.rs — self-reported
OwnIpGuard::teardown removes ingress forwards and detaches but never unregisters the DNS name; register_dns_name posts to /services/dns/add keyed on (host_id, session_name). Confirms the collision mechanics in the finding.
5. grep -n 'task_network|network_for|with_network' crates/minimald/src/{exec,env,session_host}.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
Both task paths (exec.rs task_producer and env.rs SessionChannel::run_task) pass record.name and record.policy.ingress; session_host passes the same session_name and ingress for the session's own PTask.

Verdict APPROVE — APPROVE: all personas completed and nothing survives above severity 'nit' (0 finding(s) kept).
Scope matches the title. The two-commit stack (029f027 sandbox2, 014f6af minimald) delivers one network provider factory (network_for) and one plan→container→spawn→attach sequence shared by the session host, the task producer and the in-session channel, and fixes the own-IP task defect (a task from an own-IP session previously dropped to host networking). All 25 changed files trace to that intent; mip run is migrated onto the same provider API so it cannot drift.
Clobber none. git log on the touched paths shows the stack sitting on 43183a4 with no recent fix reverted; the Cargo.lock delta is only the mip+sandbox2 and sandbox2−sessions edges, no third-party versions moved.
Correctness — checked and clean: lease accounting (plan takes the lease, a failed attach leaves the release owed so PlannedLaunch::drop/abandon returns it exactly once, a successful attach transfers the release to the guard — the failed_attach_releases_the_switch_once and abandon_without_a_reservation_does_not_decrement tests pin the exact counts); cancel-safety (NetRelease is spawned, PlannedLaunch::drop runs abandon off-runtime); the provider's plan — including Resolver::Nameservers for own-IP — reaches /etc/resolv.conf on every path, with Env::build's NetPlan::host() default exercised by no production caller; per-invocation plans on both the session-channel and exec-producer paths; no dangling callers of the removed OwnIpTap, NetworkIsolationUnavailable payload or setup_dns_config surface; privileged_tap matches tap_netns_commands' move-then-nsenter-configure rendering (address/MAC/up/route via gateway); switch::mask() handles prefix 0. Two deliberate behavior changes are worth knowing about rather than findings: (1) a HostNet sandbox whose rootfs ships /etc/resolv.conf now keeps it — host DNS is synthesized only when the rootfs has none (write_resolv_conf, asserted by the_plan_names_the_resolver_the_rootfs_gets), whereas the old Config::build synth always overwrote; (2) a task's own-IP PTask attaches under its session's identity and ingress (asserted by a_task_takes_the_network_of_its_session) — the DNS-name-collision consequence is already raised by the existing threads on exec.rs and is not restated here.
Not checked — anything a build would be needed to prove: the x86_64 KVM in-namespace-tap failure that motivates the Privileged mechanism, the 2× timing bound spec 017-N01 still asks to measure, and the aarch64-musl cross compile. The gitleaks tree scan's two generic-api-key hits are in the pre-existing local .minimal/minimal.toml, untouched by this PR.
What ran
7 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. Read provider.rs, session_host.rs build_and_spawn, sandbox2 PlannedLaunch::begin/attach/abandon/Drop — self-reported
Lease lifecycle holds: plan increments the switch count and records the reservation without awaiting, attach reads the reservation and takes it only on success (the returned guard owns the release thereafter), abandon takes and detaches once; a failed attach leaves the release owed so PlannedLaunch::drop runs abandon. No leak or double-release path found.
2. rg for removed API users: NetworkIsolationUnavailable(, OwnIpTap, plan_from_config(, setup_dns_config — exit 0 · self-reported
No dangling callers of the removed OwnIpTap or the NetworkIsolationUnavailable payload; plan_from_config is used only by the built-in path (lib.rs:462) and its tests. The minimald/mctx Env::build config.network = Some(provider) path is the only one reachable in production.
3. Read write_resolv_conf (sandbox2 lib.rs:1447) and common::synth_dns_config (common lib.rs:350) — self-reported
Resolver::Host keeps a rootfs-shipped /etc/resolv.conf and synthesizes host DNS only when absent; Resolver::Nameservers unlinks first (rootfs is a hardlink farm over the package cache) then writes. Old Config::build synth overwrote unconditionally, so HostNet DNS for roots that ship resolv.conf changed deliberately; asserted by the_plan_names_the_resolver_the_rootfs_gets.
4. Read exec.rs task_network/task_producer/NetRelease and env.rs SessionChannel::run_task — self-reported
Both the session-channel and exec-producer paths build the provider from the same task_network(&re 8BD0 cord, &switch) and thread the plan into new_container per invocation, so own-IP tasks get the switch resolver; NetRelease teardown is spawned and cancel-safe (Process::wait polled inside select!). The task-identity reuse is deliberate and asserted by a_task_takes_the_network_of_its_session; the existing threads on exec.rs already raise the DNS-name-collision consequence.
5. git log --oneline -6 and git log --oneline -4 -- crates/minimald/src/net crates/sandbox2/src — exit 0 · self-reported
PR stack is 029f027 (sandbox2 plan/launch) then 014f6af (minimald provider) on base 43183a4; the only prior net-touching commit (5b587c8) predates the base. No recent fix reverted.
6. gitleaks detect --no-git --source . --report-format json — exit 0 · self-reported
2 generic-api-key hits, both in .minimal/minimal.toml (lines 107, 112) — a pre-existing local config not part of this PR's diff. The PR diff itself is clean.
7. git diff 43183a4..014f6af -- Cargo.lock and --stat on Cargo.toml changes — exit 0 · self-reported
Cargo.lock adds the mip→sandbox2 edge and drops the sandbox2→sessions edge, consistent with the Cargo.toml changes; no third-party crate version changed, so no advisory-bearing bumps.

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; 1 finding(s) above severity 'nit' rule out APPROVE.
Scope matches the title: spec 017 steps 2/3/6/7 on top of #1422, one network_for factory in the daemon, both spawn paths driven through the plan/attach/abandon sequence, and the own-IP task defect (downgrade to HostNet) fixed. The only out-of-path hunks are mechanical (op specs/standalone_test mode→plan, e2e proof, Cargo.lock adding sandbox2 to mip). Clobber none: the two PR commits sit on 43183a4 and git log on exec.rs shows no recent fix reverted. Correctness I traced every launch path end to end and the design holds together unusually well: the reservation is recorded in the same poll that takes it (no cancel window), a failed attach leaves the release owed and PlannedLaunch's drop pays it exactly once, NetRelease::release is cancel-safe (spawns teardown, re-awaits the handle), the mctx needs_dns/needs_internet fallback removal is dead-code-safe (every real caller passed a provider), and the DNS refactor is behaviorally equivalent for Host/isolated plans (write-if-absent, unlink-first for hardlink-farm rootfs). The pre-spawn identity/ingress collision between a task and its session is already raised in two open threads on this PR and I did not re-report it. One finding below: the post-spawn side of the launch has no Drop, where the pre-spawn side does. Not checked: compiling (out of bounds per the contract) — in particular I could not run the root-integration and e2e proofs, which need a real switch/netns.
What ran

Verification log
1. Read .review/pr.diff in full (3685 lines, 25 files) — self-reported
Every hunk read; providers, launch sequence, resolv.conf move, tests, and e2e proof checked against head sources.
2. Read crates/minimald/src/exec.rs 369-505 (HakoniwaProcess, NetRelease, wait) — self-reported
net.release() runs only after a completed wait (line 492); release() spawns teardown and re-awaits the JoinHandle, so a select!-dropped wait is safe. No Drop on HakoniwaProcess or NetRelease.
3. Read crates/minimald/src/exec.rs 790-1060 (bridge, bridge_one) — self-reported
Every graceful arm (EOF, ssh-write failure, child exit, spawn error) reaches process.wait(); only an aborted bridge future drops a HakoniwaProcess without waiting. rg for '.abort()' finds none on exec tasks.
4. Read sandbox2/src/lib.rs 1309-1476 (PlannedLaunch + Drop) — self-reported
Pre-spawn release has a Drop that spawns abandon() via tokio::runtime::Handle::try_current(); the post-spawn NetRelease/HakoniwaProcess has no equivalent — the asymmetry the finding anchors on.
5. Read crates/minimald/src/net/provider.rs (OwnIpNetwork plan/attach/abandon) — self-reported
Reservation stored in a std mutex in the same poll that took the lease; attach clones then clears on success; abandon takes and detaches once. Double-plan without release is unreachable in-repo. Tests cover both count directions.
6. rg -n 'needs_dns|needs_internet' crates --glob '*.rs' — exit 0 · self-reported
mctx/env.rs and minimald/env.rs now ignore both; graph/src/env_setup.rs still computes them (pre-existing). All make_env callers pass a provider, so the removed NoNet fallback was dead code — no regression.
7. Read crates/minimald/src/session_host.rs 2219-2502 and crates/mip/src/cmd_run.rs run_task — self-reported
Session launch and mip run_task both drive plan -> container(plan) -> spawn -> attach with kill+wait on attach failure and guard.teardown() on both arms. Resolver writes (Nameservers unlink+write, Host write-if-absent) are idempotent.
8. Read crates/common/src/lib.rs 350-381 (synth_dns_config) — self-reported
create_dir_all(p/etc) then write — Host resolver write creates the dir; Nameservers arm uses raw fs::write (same as the old own_ip_dns path, rootfs always has /etc). No regression.
9. grep -niE 'api_key|secret|password|BEGIN.*PRIVATE|AKIA' .review/pr.diff — exit 1 · self-reported
No secrets in the diff. gitleaks not installed in the sandbox; targeted grep used instead.
10. git log --oneline -8 and git log --oneline -5 -- crates/minimald/src/exec.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
HEAD is the two PR commits on 43183a4; no recent fix reverted (clobber check clean).
11. Read .review/threads.json and .review/learnings.md — self-reported
learnings.md empty. threads.json has two open bot threads on exec.rs task_network (task registers the session's identity/ingress on the switch — DNS record and ingress collision); not re-raised per contract.

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; 1 finding(s) above severity 'nit' rule out APPROVE.
Scope matches the title and PR body: the full migration of sandbox2::NetworkMode into one provider factory (net::provider::network_for), the new plan/attach/abandon launch sequence (PlannedLaunch, NetPlan, NetRelease), and per-invocation launches in every sandbox path — session (session_host.rs), task (exec.rs), mip run_task, and sandbox2::run_with_cancel — plus the resolver (Resolver/write_resolv_conf) and e2e/root-integration proofs. 25 files, coherent. Clobber none: git log --oneline -8 shows the two PR commits (7682e46 atop e728e79) on main with no recent fix reverted; the working tree carries only an unrelated .minimal/minimal.toml edit. Correctness — verified by reading, not building: the launch sequence in all four paths (single plan per invocation, tap fd adopted exactly once via Spawned::from_child, teardown exactly once in both run_with_cancel select arms); the single-slot reservation discipline in OwnIpNetwork (std mutex never held across an await); NetRelease cancel-safety and once-only release; SwitchClient attach/detach accounting; the Host resolv.conf equivalence. One finding below: a lease-stranding window when plan() fails between allocation and the reservation write (LocalSpawn's write_config/ensure_running), which the PR body claims cannot happen. Also noted, not a finding: a stale doc comment at crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs:1195 still names the removed NetworkMode::NoNet/OwnIp (outside the diff, so not anchored). Not checked: no build/tests per the review contract — compile-level claims rest on source reading; the miri/unit/root-integration/e2e suites were not run.

Head 7682e46 on top of e728e79; no reverted fixes in the recent history.
2. git status --short — exit 0 · self-reported
Only .minimal/minimal.toml modified (unrelated) and .review/ untracked.
3. Read crates/minimald/src/net/provider.rs:138-295 — self-reported
OwnIpNetwork::plan takes the lease via SwitchClient::attach, then writes
reserved; attach reads/clones the reservation and clears it only after success; abandon is a no-op with nothing reserved. The lease-taking and the reservation write are separated bySwitchClient::attach's internal awaits.
4. Read crates/minimald/src/net/mod.rs:128-354 — self-reported
IpAllocator::allocate records the lease permanently (never-reuse contract, R1.6); SwitchClient::attach bumps
attachedonly after write_config/ensure_running for LocalSpawn, so an error there leaves the allocator entry with no count bump and no caller-side rollback; no free/release path exists on the allocator.
5. Read crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs:770-1059 and 1349-1405 — self-reported
run_with_cancel plans per invocation, attaches once, tears down in exactly one select arm; PlannedLaunch::begin propagates a plan error with no PlannedLaunch constructed, so Drop/abandon never runs for a failed plan.
6. Read crates/minimald/src/exec.rs:157-530 — self-reported
task_network, attach_or_reap (kill+reap on attach error), NetRelease (cancel-safe, once-only release, Drop spawns teardown), HakoniwaProcess::wait releasing at terminal state.
7. Read crates/minimald/src/session_host.rs:2375-2500 — self-reported
Session launch: plan outlives build_and_spawn, attach-Err leaves release to PlannedLaunch drop and process to SpawnedProcessGuard; comments match the code.
8. Read crates/mip/src/cmd_run.rs diff hunk — self-reported
Per-invocation plan_launch/container/attach; attach-Err kills+reaps; teardown unconditional after wait, matching run_with_cancel.
9. Read crates/minimald/src/net/gvproxy_network.rs + crates/sandbox2/src/network.rs:291 — self-reported
NetGuard::teardown returns Output=(); teardown errors are swallowed by design at every call site, so a failed detach is silent.
10. grep -rn 'NetworkMode' crates/sandbox2/src — exit 0 · self-reported
One stale doc reference at sandbox2/src/lib.rs:1195 naming the removed NetworkMode::NoNet/OwnIp; the line is outside the diff hunks so it cannot be anchored as a finding.
11. grep 'take_tap_fd' crates/sandbox2/src/network.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
take_tap_fd adopted once; the provider calls it only on the InNamespace branch; the own_ip_tap_root_integration test asserts the second take is None (017-010).
12. Read .review/pr.json, threads.json, learnings.md — self-reported
Six threads, all resolved at head 7682e46; learnings.md is empty; PR body claims the reservation window cannot leak, which the finding addresses.
13. Read scripts/session-e2e.sh and minimald/tests diffs — self-reported
Own-IP e2e proof gated on MINVMD_GVPROXY_BIN checks tap/default-route/resolver; root-integration tests drive real NetPlans and tap creation. Not run (no build per contract).

Verdict APPROVE — APPROVE: all personas completed and nothing survives above severity 'nit' (0 finding(s) kept).
Scope matches the title: net::provider::network_for becomes the one place a PTask's network mode is read, and every sandbox path (session host, exec task producer, in-session min run, mip run, sandbox2::run_with_cancel) flows through the same plan→container→spawn→attach→release sequence. The PhaseOneAttachGuard deletion and the per-invocation plan/container/attach in the task paths are exactly what the title promises.
Clobber none. git log on the touched files shows no recent fix reverted; the diff only displaces code that this PR itself introduces (net/gvproxy_network.rs shrinks by relocating the attach, exec.rs grows the provider path). Cargo.lock moves reflect mip gaining sandbox2 and sandbox2 dropping sessions; neither reverses prior dependency work.
Correctness — I traced the release lifecycle structurally across every call site and the two races I suspected both fail to be reachable: (1) a deferred abandon from a failed attach consuming the next invocation's reservation on the reused per-task provider would need a second invocation after a failed one, but bridge (exec.rs:807-817) breaks the stream on the first Err item, and the mctx path returns on attach failure too; (2) a cancellation window between attach success and owed=false in PlannedLaunch::attach cannot be observed because the flag is cleared within the same poll as the attach future completing. NetRelease::release is exactly-once under cancellation (guard taken before the teardown is spawned; Drop is a no-op once taken), and write_resolv_conf handles the hardlink-farm rootfs correctly (Host arm writes only when absent, Nameservers arm unlinks first). SwitchSubnet::netmask is provably safe under the 8..=29 prefix bound. The mtap{o1}_{o2}_{o3} tap name is unique per switch: within one subnet two leases differing only in o[0] cannot exist, and one daemon serves one subnet. The switch count is bumped in plan, decremented exactly once by attach-handed guard teardown or abandon, and the complete_own_ip_attach doc-comment's double-decrement warning is honored.
Not checked (would need a build): actual compilation of the moved cfg(not(test)) → unconditional module in net/mod.rs, and runtime behavior of the DM1/3/4 vsock relay. The PR is heavily test-covered (provider plan/attach/abandon unit tests, PlannedLaunch sequence tests, NetRelease cancel-safety tests, netns and own-ip root integration harnesses, and a session-e2e own-IP proof), and all seven existing review threads are addressed in this head. I found no finding worth a maintainer's time.
What ran
9 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. git show HEAD -- crates/minimald/src/exec.rs (bridge) — self-reported
Traced
bridge: it breaks the stream on the firstErritem (write to SSH stderr, exit 1), so no second invocation follows a failed attach; the producer's nextreq_rx.recv()then returns None and the producer exits, droppingenv. Refutes the stale-abandon-consume-next-reservation race on the task path.
2. Read crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs PlannedLaunch::attach — self-reported
attachsetsowed = falseimmediately after the inner attach future resolves, within the same poll and with no await between — a future is only droppable at a yield, so there is no cancellation window in which a completed attach's guard is dropped without a handoff. Refutes the attach-success leak.
3. Read crates/minimald/src/net/provider.rs OwnIpNetwork::plan/attach/abandon — self-reported
Reservation is a std mutex never held across an await;
planwrites it only after the switch attach succeeds;attachreads, then takes it aftercomplete_own_ip_attachsucceeds;abandonno-ops when empty. Bump in plan, single decrement via guard teardown or abandon, no double-detach.
4. Read crates/minimald/src/exec.rs NetRelease::release + HakoniwaProcess::wait — self-reported
release()takes the guard before spawning the teardown, so a droppedwaitfuture leaves the teardown running and a re-poll awaits the same JoinHandle;Dropspawns teardown only while the guard is still held. Exactly-once release on both Exited and Failed arms.
5. Read crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs write_resolv_conf — self-reported
Host arm returns early when the rootfs already has resolv.conf; Nameservers arm unlinks before writing so the hardlink-farm package cache is never corrupted. Resolver None leaves the file untouched.
6. Read crates/switch/src/lib.rs SwitchSubnet::new/netmask — self-reported
Prefix is validated to 8..=29 in
new, sou32::MAX << (32 - prefix)never shifts by 32 or more; test covers /8 and /29 boundaries.
7. Traced tap-name uniqueness for privileged_tap (provider.rs) — self-reported
Name is
mtap{o1}_{o2}_{o3}from the lease octets. Within one switch subnet two leases share o[1..3] only if identical (they differ in o[0] only across subnets, and one daemon serves one subnet), so names are unique per switch; interface names are per-netns across daemons.
8. Read crates/minimald/src/net/gvproxy_network.rs OwnIpGuard::teardown — self-reported
Teardown removes ingress forwards before detaching (so unexpose reaches a still-running switch), then detaches, then drops the relay. On attach/ingress failure the relay is dropped and the launch's abandon does the single detach — no double-decrement.
9. git log --oneline -15 -- crates/minimald/src/net crates/sandbox2/src crates/mip/src — self-reported
No recent fix reverted: the head commit is the PR itself and its parent is the sandbox2 plan/launch-sequence commit; touched files were last substantially changed by this PR.

Verdict APPROVE — APPROVE: all personas completed and nothing survives above severity 'nit' (0 finding(s) kept).
Scope matches the title: a net::provider::network_for factory that is now the single place reading a PTask's network mode, with plan/attach/abandon on sandbox2::Network carrying every launch path (session, exec-channel task, in-session task, mip run, run_with_cancel) through a PlannedLaunch that owns release exactly once. Large (26 files, ~1850 added) but cohesive — the same EnvArgs/Config surface swap is threaded through all four binaries, and the diff contains no unrelated hunks. Clobber none: git log shows the two commits are this feature alone, and nothing reverts a recent merge or a prior fix (the write_resolv_conf and tap-naming fixes from #1422 are intact). Correctness clean. I walked every exit path of the launch sequence: attach hands release to NetGuard, an early Err/cancelled launch leaves it with PlannedLaunch whose Drop spawns abandon, and OwnIpNetwork takes its reservation out of the Mutex only on successful attach so gvproxy's attach count is never double-decremented; the switch lock is free between plan and attach; the resolver flows through the plan for all modes (Host → Resolver::Host, own-IP → switch gateway nameservers, isolated → none), with write_resolv_conf synthesizing only when the rootfs lacks one. No dangling references to the removed sandbox2::NetworkMode/OwnIpTap/override_network_mode remain in the touched crates (minvmd's NetworkMode is the VM-level RPC type and sessions::NetworkMode is the record the provider reads — both legitimate). Requirements 017-001..017-011 each carry a unit test in provider.rs or exec.rs. Not checked: compilation, the root-gated integration harnesses (netns_root_integration, own_ip_tap_root_integration), and the own-IP e2e section in scripts/session-e2e.sh all require a build/runtime and were out of bounds. One stale doc reference to the removed [NetworkMode::NoNet] types survives at crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs:1177, but that line is untouched by the diff and cannot anchor a finding here.

Verification log
1. git log --oneline -3 — exit 0 · self-reported
HEAD is 4520198 over 3d36b87 over 43183a4; the PR is exactly two commits (sandbox2 plan/launch, then the minimald provider), nothing reverted.
2. git diff 3d36b87..4520198 --stat — exit 0 · self-reported
Second commit is 9 files, +930/-373: provider.rs new, exec.rs/session_host.rs/gvproxy_network.rs rewritten; matches the staged pr.diff.
3. rg -n 'NetworkMode|OwnIpTap|override_network_mode|isolates_network|with_own_ip' crates --glob '*.rs' — exit 0 · self-reported
Only legitimate survivors: sessions::NetworkMode (record input to network_for) and minimald_rpc::NetworkMode (VM layer); no dangling refs to the removed sandbox2 APIs. One stale doc at sandbox2/src/lib.rs:1177 is off-diff.
4. grep -n 'NetworkMode::NoNet' .review/pr.diff — exit 0 · self-reported
Every diff mention is deleted old code or a test constructing sessions::NetworkMode; the stale sandbox2 doc line does not appear in the diff, so it cannot anchor a finding.
5. Read crates/minimald/src/session_host.rs 2250-2480 — self-reported
Session launch: PlannedLaunch::begin(network_for(...)) -> env with_network(plan.clone()) + container(&plan) -> planned.attach(Spawned::from_child); on attach error the release stays with
plannedand detaches at drop. Exact-once release holds.
6. Read crates/minimald/src/exec.rs 150-330, 365-440 — self-reported
task_network composes -task identity with no ingress; task_producer builds env via make_env_with_network, plan_launch, then attach_or_reap; NetRelease cancel-safe (release spawns teardown, survives drop); tests cover session-network inheritance, refused-attach stop, and single release.
7. Read crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs new_container/plan_launch/run_with_cancel — self-reported
new_container(&plan) applies isolation decision, plan.tap() RustSlirp, write_resolv_conf; run_with_cancel plans/attaches per invocation and tears down on both the cancelled and completion arms.
8. Read crates/minimald/src/net/provider.rs — self-reported
network_for matches on the record's NetworkMode: HostNet -> HostNet, NoNet -> NoNet, OwnIp -> OwnIpNetwork (attach on SwitchClient in plan, reservation in Mutex, taken only on successful attach; abandon takes+detaches). TapMechanism decided once from the switch control channel; privileged_tap checks /proc/{pid}/ns/net before open_tap.
9. Read crates/mctx/src/env.rs build/plan_launch/container — self-reported
needs_dns/needs_internet dropped; the provider's plan names the resolver; setup_dns_config defaults on and Resolver::Host synth only when the rootfs lacks resolv.conf — DNS preserved for host-mode sessions and tasks.
10. Read crates/common/src/lib.rs hardlink_dir_contents — self-reported
Hardlink farm treats AlreadyExists as Ok, so the Resolver::Nameservers unlink-then-write path in write_resolv_conf cannot collide with package-provided resolv.conf entries.

Spec 017 steps 2, 3, 6 and 7. `net::provider::network_for` is the one place in the daemon that reads a PTask's network mode, and it returns a provider for every mode: the sandbox layer's `HostNet` and `NoNet`, or the own-IP provider, which leases an address in `plan`, relays the tap in `attach` and gives the lease back in `abandon`. Its reservation is a `std` mutex never held across an await, so a launch cancelled between taking the lease and recording it cannot leak it. The tap mechanism is read from the switch's control channel once, with the transport, before the sandbox starts: in-namespace where the daemon is unprivileged (DM2), privileged where it is root inside a microVM (DM1/3/4). Not a fallback — in the x86_64 KVM guest asking for an in-namespace tap destroys the container supervisor before the failure is visible. No deployment model changes mechanism. The session path plans through the provider and attaches through the launch; `PhaseOneAttachGuard` is gone. The task path does the same, so an own-IP session's task gets its own address instead of the host's network (017-005). Its guard is released when the process is reaped, on its own task: `Process::wait` is polled inside a `select!` and can be dropped mid-await, and a release awaited in place would be lost with it. The session e2e gains the own-IP proof, run where a switch exists. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Scope matches the title: nine files, all trace to spec 017 steps 2/3/6/7 — the mode→provider factory (network_for), the OwnIpNetwork plan/attach/abandon lifecycle behind sandbox2::Network, the task path's per-invocation plan→attach→teardown in exec.rs, and the session-host launch rebuilt on PlannedLaunch. Nothing extraneous. Clobber none: head ac4d930 sits directly on 28cbda2 (the stated base, the #1422 merge) and the parent chain reverts nothing; the only removals are the superseded GvproxyNetwork/PhaseOneAttachGuard machinery this PR replaces. Correctness the release invariants are sound on every path traced: a lease is returned exactly once (guard owns the release on attach success, PlannedLaunch::drop→abandon on attach failure or cancellation, NetRelease's cancel-safe teardown for dropped waits), and plan() records its reservation with no await in between, so a cancelled plan cannot leak the lease. The new unit tests cover the refused-attach and dropped-wait cases structurally; the e2e own-IP proof is properly gated on MINVMD_GVPROXY_BIN. A suspected within-subnet tap-name collision (mtap{}_{}_{} with octets 1–3) was recomputed and disproven — leases in one subnet produce distinct names, and taps live in per-guest namespaces. Not checked: compilation — a build is out of bounds for this review, so type-level integration across the moved modules is unverified, and the four new tests were reviewed structurally only.

1. gitleaks detect --no-git --source . — self-reported
Two generic-api-key hits, both in .minimal/minimal.toml — the sandbox's own ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN/MODEL_TOKEN env config, untouched by the PR. No credential appears anywhere in the diff.
2. git diff 28cbda2..ac4d930 --stat -- Cargo.toml Cargo.lock .minimal/minimal.toml justfile rust-toolchain.toml Cross.toml — exit 0 · self-reported
No manifest, lockfile, or toolchain file moved in the PR range, so there is no dependency change to assess for advisories.
3. git log --oneline -5 + pr.json head/base comparison — self-reported
Head ac4d930 is the direct child of 28cbda2 (the stated base, #1422's merge); the parent chain shows no reverted fix, and every diff hunk traces to the stated intent.
4. Structural trace: OwnIpNetwork plan/attach/abandon, PlannedLaunch, NetRelease, run_with_cancel — self-reported
Exactly one detach per attach on all paths: success hands the reservation to the guard; attach failure or a cancelled launch leaves it for PlannedLaunch::drop → abandon → detach; a failed plan means the switch attach itself failed, so nothing is owed. NetRelease::release is cancel-safe (teardown runs on its own task, JoinHandle re-awaited) and Drop spawns the same teardown. Refused-attach path kills+reaps before returning the error.
5. Tap-name uniqueness recomputation (provider.rs privileged_tap) — self-reported
format!("mtap{}{}{}", o[1], o[2], o[3]) encodes three octets, so leases within one subnet (one switch per host) yield distinct names; the daemon-namespace tap names cannot collide across hosts because each guest has its own namespace. The earlier collision hypothesis was disproven and dropped.
6. guest.rs daemon tap name check — self-reported
The daemon's own egress tap is the constant "eth0", so there is no name clash with the mtap* PTask taps.
7. session-e2e ownip_section awk scratch test — self-reported
Marker-based section extraction (DEV/ROUTE/RESOLV) and the threshold checks were exercised against representative /proc output; each section is a separate awk invocation, so no state leaks between sections.

…blip can't red the lane The proof (#1392) demanded HTTP:200 from both example.com and example.org on a single attempt each, which made the native lane depend on two third-party endpoints answering first time. On b2a86d1 example.com returned HTTP:200 and example.org then lost the TLS handshake (curl 35, HTTP:000): the first host had already proven the session's DNS, NAT and TLS all worked, and the lane went red anyway. It surfaced on a docs-only commit because a push to main bypasses the lane's `changes` path filter, so the full native lane runs for every commit on main — the README PR's own CI had those jobs path-skipped, so it merged green. Retry each host up to three times with a short backoff. A session with no NAT/DNS fails every attempt against every host, so the switchless boot this proof exists to catch still fails it; only weather is absorbed. Retried attempts print without `::error::`, so a run that goes on to pass carries no red annotation. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

…thers Retrying each host fixed the one-blip case but kept the same shape of bug at a longer timescale: an endpoint down for the whole retry window still failed a session whose egress the other host had just proven. The lane is a gate on the session, so the bar is now one host answering across all hosts and attempts. A switchless boot has no NAT and no DNS, so it fails every host on every attempt and still fails the lane — the thing this proof exists to catch cannot be masked by one host answering. A host that fails all its attempts is reported as a warning with its own curl stderr, so a partial fault stays visible rather than being silently absorbed, and the OK line now says how many hosts answered. Scope matches the title. One mode-to-provider factory (net::provider::network_for) now feeds every sandbox path — session host (session_host.rs), in-session min run (env::SessionChannel::run_task), and exec-channel tasks (exec::task_network) — collapsing the old GvproxyNetwork + PhaseOneAttachGuard + complete_local_own_ip_attach three-way split. The session-e2e.sh egress retry is a flake fix with its rationale spelled out in the comment; bundled, but defensible. Clobber none: git log on the changed files shows this is one commit (ac4d930) on top of #1422 (28cbda2), with #717/#581 beneath — no recent fix reverted. Correctness verified structurally, no findings. The lease lifecycle is sound on every path: plan reserves under the switch lock in the same poll that attach returns; a failed attach hands the release to abandon (detach once, attached() returns to baseline — the failed_attach_releases_the_switch_once test); PlannedLaunch::attach consumes the reservation only after complete_own_ip_attach succeeds and sets owed=false, so there is no double-release. The exec task path's per-invocation plan_launch/attach is the right call (hakoniwa unshares per spawn, so each PTask needs its own lease), matching run_with_cancel. NetRelease is cancel-safe: wait() is polled inside select! and may be dropped mid-teardown, but the teardown is tokio::spawned, the handle survives re-await, and Drop only releases when the guard is still present — exactly one teardown, verified by a_dropped_wait_still_releases_the_network_once. Session teardown runs net_guard.teardown() on the live runtime at mainloop end (session_host.rs:3022); the attach-failure Err arm reaps the child via SpawnedProcessGuard. Tap-name uniqueness holds: mtap{o[1]}_{o[2]}_{o[3]} (2nd/3rd/4th octets) simulated as collision-free at every prefix SwitchSubnet::new accepts (worst-case 1), 14 chars < IFNAMSIZ. The one strong hypothesis I formed (tap-name collisions) was refuted by that simulation and dropped. No secrets in the diff; no dangling references to the removed GvproxyNetwork/PhaseOneAttachGuard/complete_local_own_ip_attach symbols. Not checked: compilation — cargo check is out of
EAA7
bounds, so the moved move_tap_into_netns relocation and the #[cfg(not(test))] module-gating change are verified by reading only. Test quality is high (refused-attach, dropped-wait, concurrent-launch, provider-per-mode); the tests that need a live gvproxy or a VM are the ones I could not run.

6. Read sandbox2::run_with_cancel in crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs — self-reported
Kills+reaps the child on attach failure; net_guard.teardown() runs on every exit path (cancel, success, failure). Matches the exec task producer's per-invocation shape.
7. Read NetRelease and HakoniwaProcess::wait in crates/minimald/src/exec.rs — self-reported
release() takes the guard once, spawns the teardown, and re-awaits the surviving handle; Drop spawns only when the guard is still Some. release() sits after the terminal state match, so Failed releases too. Exactly one teardown.
8. Read OwnIpNetwork plan/attach/abandon in crates/minimald/src/net/provider.rs — self-reported
reserved is a std mutex never held across an await; plan writes it in the same poll attach returns; attach clones it and takes it only after complete_own_ip_attach succeeds; abandon detaches iff still reserved. failed_attach_releases_the_switch_once confirms count parity.
9. Read session_host launch + mainloop teardown (sandbox2 launch hunk, lines 2455-2490 and 3008-3024) — self-reported
SpawnedProcessGuard owns the child until handoff, so an attach-failure Err return reaps it; net_guard.teardown() awaits on the live runtime at session end before the sandbox files drop.
10. Read gvproxy_network complete_own_ip_attach / OwnIpGuard::teardown and net/policy.rs dns_add_body — self-reported
Teardown removes ingress before detach, then drops the relay; DNS registration posts a full zone body and is never removed anywhere (pre-existing for sessions, extended to tasks). Matches accepted R3.1 behavior.
11. Read env.rs SessionChannel::run_task change and session.rs GetNetSwitch wiring — self-reported
The 'session is gone' early return matches run_build's existing pattern; record()+net_switch() are two actor round-trips mapped to the same IO error. net_switch() maps a dead actor to NotConnected.
12. Read scripts/session-e2e.sh egress-retry and own-IP proof hunks — self-reported
Retry loop resets state per host and breaks on HTTP:200; the own-IP proof checks tap presence (/proc/net/dev), default route (/proc/net/route), and the switch resolver — awk section parsing is sound under pipefail.

Summary
Spec 017 (#1354) steps 2, 3, 6 and 7, on top of #1422: one provider factory in the daemon, the session path and the task path on the launch sequence, and the own-IP task defect fixed — an own-IP session's task gets its own address instead of a silent downgrade to the host's network.
Third of the stack
#1354 (spec) → #1422 → this. Rebases to its own commit once #1422 merges; until then the diff shows both.What lands
net::provider::network_for(mode, switch, identity, ingress) -> Arc<dyn Network>— the one place that reads a PTask's network mode, and it returns a provider for every mode:sandbox2::HostNet,sandbox2::NoNet, or the own-IP provider. Nothing else in the daemon matches on the mode;NetworkMode::isolates_networkdoes not exist.plan, relays the tap inattach, and gives the lease back inabandon. The reservation lives in astdmutex that is never held across an await: once the switch'sattachreturns, the lease is recorded in that same poll, so a launch cancelled between the two cannot leak it. (A failure insideSwitchClient::attach— after allocation, before the count moves — is a pre-existing window in the switch client, unchanged here.)failed_attach_releases_the_switch_onceasserts the count both ways against a realSwitchClient.tap_mechanismreads the switch's control channel once, with the transport: a unix socket (DM2) means the sandbox layer builds the tap in the PTask's own namespace and the plan carries tap parameters; vsock (DM1/3/4) means the daemon builds it underCAP_NET_ADMINafter the process exists, and the plan asks for a namespace and no tap. Not a fallback, because in the x86_64 KVM guest asking for an in-namespace tap destroys the container supervisor before the failure is visible. Why it fails there is an o 8000 pen question in the spec; the mechanism every deployment model uses is the one it used before this PR.session_host.rs):PlannedLaunch::begin(network_for(..))→ env built forplanned.plan()→planned.attach(Spawned::from_child(..)).PhaseOneAttachGuardis gone; the launch owns the release.exec.rs, and the in-sessionmin runchannel inenv.rs):task_network(record, switch)composes the provider for the session's mode — under a task-scoped identity (<session>-task) and with no ingress, since the session's own PTask is on the switch at the same time and keeps its name record and forwards;mctx::make_env_with_networkcarries it; each invocation plans, builds, spawns and attaches through the sequence, and a refused attach kills and reaps the process (a_refused_task_attach_stops_the_task). The guard is released when the process is reaped — on its own task, becauseProcess::waitis polled inside aselect!and can be dropped mid-await;a_dropped_wait_still_releases_the_network_onceproves the release survives that and runs exactly once (017-003).scripts/session-e2e.sh: the own-IP session proof, run where a switch exists (MINVMD_GVPROXY_BIN), skipped loudly where none does.Requirements
017-003 (task path), 017-005 (+ both sub-requirements), 017-008, 017-009, 017-N01 (structural: the switch lock is free between plan and attach, four launches hold four leases; the timing bound stays an open question).
