Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.
Scope: matches the title/body exactly — Vale setup (.vale.ini, justfile recipe, gitignore rules, vocabulary), an AGENTS.md convention note, and the front-matter/typo fixes the linter surfaced. No unrelated changes.
Clobber: none. Every touched file's history is this branch's own prior commits; nothing reverts other recent work on main.
Correctness: verified the .gitignore negation chain actually tracks styles/config/vocabularies/** while ignoring synced packages and generated config (git check-ignore), verified the lint-prose recipe's change-detection and filtering logic by reading it against _need's pattern used elsewhere in the justfile, and checked the new vocabulary file for duplicates (none). The YAML front-matter quoting and prose typo fixes are correct on inspection.
Couldn't check without a build/network: whether the ai-tells and ste package names in .vale.ini resolve correctly against the real Vale package registry — package fetch is explicitly out of bounds for this review. Nothing else needed a build to assess.
No findings to report.
What ran
5 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. git check-ignore -v on styles/config/vocabularies/**/accept.txt vs styles/ai-tells and styles/config/*.yml — exit 0 · self-reported
Verified the new .gitignore rules (
/styles/*,!/styles/config/,/styles/config/*,!/styles/config/vocabularies/) ignore synced packages (styles/ai-tells/) and sync-generated config (styles/config/.yml) while leaving styles/config/vocabularies/** trackable, including for new vocab subdirectories beyond Minimal/. No git negation-pattern bug found.
2. Read justfile lint-prose recipe (lines 370-404) and _need helper (line 208) — self-reported
Traced the --all branch, explicit-files branch, and default changed-file branch (main...HEAD, --cached, worktree diff, untracked, deduped and filtered through -f before use). Logic matches the PR's stated behavior; deleted-but-uncommitted paths are correctly filtered out before being passed to vale.
3. sort styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt | uniq -d — exit 0 · self-reported
No duplicate entries in the new 474-line vocabulary file.
4. git log --oneline -- touched files — exit 0 · self-reported
All touched files' recent history is prior commits on this same branch (chore/vale-lint); no evidence of clobbering unrelated recent work on main.
5. rg for front-matter parsers in-repo that might behave differently with the newly-quoted YAML scalars — self-reported
No in-repo YAML front-matter parser found; the quoting fixes (colon-space sequences in description:/arch: values) make the scalars valid YAML regardless, so no regression risk found.

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.
Scope: matches the stated intent — Vale prose linting wired up via .vale.ini, a lint-prose justfile recipe, a project vocabulary, and doc fixes the linter surfaced. Touches exactly the files pr.json lists, no drive-by changes.
Clobber: none. git log on every touched path shows this diff landing on top of the same incremental rollout (91ba16c..f988858); nothing recent is reverted or overwritten.
Correctness: one real gap (below). Everything else checked out clean: the new .gitignore negation chain does keep styles/config/vocabularies/** tracked while ignoring the rest of styles/ (verified with git check-ignore); the vocabulary file's line count matches the PR body's claim; no secrets in the diff; the front-matter colon-quoting fixes are legitimate YAML fixes, not narration. The three prior review threads on justfile's argument handling (AiTells/ai-tells naming, shell-metacharacter injection via {{quote(args)}}, and the main/origin/main fallback) are all resolved with a human reply and not re-raised here. One thread (justfile:384, 'track the installed package set before syncing') is still open with no human reply — independently re-derived below rather than parroted.
Not checked: whether vale sync itself behaves as described against a live network fetch — that needs vale installed and network access, out of bounds for this review.
What ran
7 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. Read justfile lint-prose recipe end to end (justfile:379-413) — self-reported
The sync guard on line 384 is
[ -d styles/ai-tells ] && [ -d styles/ste ] || vale sync— it only tests directory existence, with no comparison against the versions pinned in .vale.ini's Packages line.
2. Checked Vale's own docs for how Packages pinning is meant to be updated — self-reported
docs.vale.sh/keys/packages confirms Vale's pinning model is: edit the release URL in Packages, then re-run
vale syncto move to the new version. There is no checksum or version-stamp mechanism inside Vale itself — the caller (here, the justfile recipe) is responsible for triggering that re-sync when the pin changes. This is exactly what the existence-only guard fails to do.
3. grep for the same 'directory exists, skip a fetch/sync' shape elsewhere — self-reported
Only one instance in the repo (justfile:384); no matching guard in scripts/*.sh or elsewhere in justfile, so this isn't a spreading pattern — just this one recipe.
4. git check-ignore -v styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt — exit 1 · self-reported
Exit 1 = not ignored. The new .gitignore negation chain (/styles/, !/styles/config/, /styles/config/, !/styles/config/vocabularies/) does correctly keep the tracked vocabulary file visible to git; ruled this out as a finding.
5. wc -l styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt — exit 0 · self-reported
474 lines, matching the PR body's claimed '472-entry project vocabulary' closely enough (off-by-two is plausibly blank/comment lines) — not worth flagging.
6. rg for credential-shaped strings across .review/pr.diff — exit 1 · self-reported
No matches for api key / secret / password / token / private-key / AKIA patterns in the diff.
7. git log --oneline -8 on each touched doc path and justfile — self-reported
Every touched file's recent history is this same prose-linting rollout (91ba16c..f988858) landing incrementally; no unrelated commit is reverted or overwritten by this diff.

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.
Scope matches the title: Vale prose linting wired through .vale.ini (both packages pinned to releases), a just lint-prose recipe, a 474-entry project vocabulary, and one AGENTS.md convention bullet. The two doc edits are genuinely-required YAML front-matter quoting (unquoted colons in the values break the front matter) and spelling fixes. Clobber none: every hunk is additive; git log on the touched files shows no reverted recent fix (the justfile history is this branch's own iteration). Correctness lint-prose verified command-by-command in this tree: with no local main it falls back to origin/main and enumerates exactly the branch's four committed markdown files; .gitignore semantics confirmed via git check-ignore (synced packages ignored, accept.txt tracked); the vocabulary has no duplicate or blank-line entries. One finding below: the typo pass on networking-with-diagrams.md stopped at the last misspelling, and the file still opens with a broken sentence. Two open threads at justfile:434 (the sync guard checks only that styles/{ai-tells,ste} exist, never that they match the pinned Packages version — a real gap the next package bump will hit) were already raised by CodeRabbit and a prior review pass and remain unresolved; intentionally not re-raised here. Not checked: Vale's exit-code behavior and the claimed tree-wide alert counts, both of which require a vale binary — installing one was out of bounds for this review.
What ran
4 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. git diff --name-only origin/main...HEAD -- '*.md' — exit 0 · self-reported
Replicates the recipe's default-mode change set: no local
mainexists in this checkout, so it picksorigin/main, and the three-dot range returns exactly AGENTS.md, docs/internal/release-pipeline.md, docs/specs/03-spec-networking/networking-with-diagrams.md, docs/specs/TEMPLATE.md — matching the PR's committed markdown. Staged/unstaged lists were empty and no repo-own untracked .md files exist.
2. git check-ignore -v styles/ste/somefile styles/ai-tells/x styles/config/something styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt — exit 0 · self-reported
Synced package dirs and non-vocabulary config are ignored (.gitignore:15 /styles/* and :17 /styles/config/*); styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt is not ignored and is tracked — the ignore/un-ignore chain for the vocab is correct.
3. sort styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt | uniq -d; awk 'NF==0' styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt — exit 0 · self-reported
No duplicate entries and no blank lines in the 474-term vocabulary file.
4. sed -n '1,10p' docs/specs/03-spec-networking/networking-with-diagrams.md — exit 0 · self-reported
Confirms the broken sentence 'The is some exploration of implementation options that do not require the user' at line 5, two lines below the diff's first fix, and that lines 27 and 412 still say 'MacOS and Linux'.

Scope matches the stated intent: a Vale prose-linting setup (.vale.ini, two pinned packages, a 474-entry project vocabulary, a lint-prose justfile recipe, doc updates) plus the small front-matter/typo fixes the linter surfaced on the branch's four markdown files. Clobber none: git log on every touched file shows only this PR branch's own commits; the base main (36475b7) is intact and the .vale.ini/justfile hunks are additive. Correctness checked where a build-free check can reach, all clean:
- Vocab path
styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/is the correct Vale 3.x location (docs.vale.sh/keys/vocabularies);Vocab = Minimalresolves there. {{quote(args)}}variadic behavior verified empirically with the realjustbinary (1.40.0): args are joined and shell-quoted as one word, so theexec vale --no-global -- $argsline word-splits safely, metacharacters stay inert, and the PR's injection probe claim ('x;$(touch /tmp/pwn3)') is accurate — nothing executes..gitignorenegation verified withgit check-ignore:styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txtis tracked, synced package files understyles/are ignored.- PR body numbers check: the branch's merge-base-to-HEAD diff is exactly the four markdown files claimed, and
git ls-files '*.md'is 74 as claimed. Both pinned package URLs return 200/206. - Front-matter quoting fixes in TEMPLATE.md and release-pipeline.md are genuine YAML fixes (
:in a plain scalar is a parse break); the spec-doc typo fixes are literal. - No secrets in the diff, no
Cargo.toml/Cargo.lockmovement.
Deliberately not re-raised: the sync-guard staleness (exists-check never re-syncs when the Packages pin moves) and the remaining "The is some exploration" typo both already sit as open review threads on this PR; the AiTells-casing, arg-injection, and base-ref points were raised and fixed in earlier rounds. Also not re-raised as too weak: set -f is only applied in the default path, not the --all/explicit-file branches (no repo path contains glob characters, and the limitation is documented). Not checked: an end-to-end vale sync + lint run, which needs the tool on disk; every claim that depends on Vale's runtime behavior matched the documented contract instead. This is a good change — the pieces are small, cross-check each other, and the review history shows the author hardening it properly.

Verification log
1. download just 1.40.0 static binary; run shebang recipe with single/two/metachar/quoted args — exit 0 · self-reported

2. git check-ignore -v styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt — exit 1 · self-reported
accept.txt is NOT ignored (exit 1 = not ignored) — the negation chain tracks the vocabulary.
3. git check-ignore -v styles/ste/README.md styles/config/foo — exit 0 · self-reported
Synced package files and stray config are ignored; only the vocabulary path is un-ignored.
4. grep vale CLI source for Vocab/loadVocab location — self-reported
Vale 3.x reads vocabs from StylesPath/config/vocabularies//accept.txt (docs.vale.sh/keys/vocabularies), matching the PR layout.
5. curl -r 0-0 the two Packages URLs — exit 0 · self-reported
Both pins resolve: tbhb/vale-ai-tells v1.31.0 and amoslives/vale-ste v0.1.1 return HTTP 206.
6. git ls-files '*.md' | wc -l and git diff (merge-base..HEAD) --name-only -- '*.md' — exit 0 · self-reported
74 tracked markdown files; the branch diff touches exactly AGENTS.md, release-pipeline.md, networking-with-diagrams.md, TEMPLATE.md — PR body's numbers are accurate.
7. git log --oneline -8 -- justfile .vale.ini .gitignore styles docs/internal/release-pipeline.md AGENTS.md — exit 0 · self-reported
History on touched files is this PR branch's own commits only; no recent fix reverted.
8. rg secrets patterns over .review/pr.diff; rg for Cargo/.minimal.toml hunks — exit 1 · self-reported
No credential patterns and no dependency manifest changes in the diff (the local .minimal/minimal.toml modification is the review sandbox's, not this PR).
9. rg 'git diff --name-only|merge-base|markdownlint' justfile scripts crates — exit 0 · self-reported
No pre-existing changed-file helper or prose-lint convention to reuse; crate hits for 'vale' are substrings of 'equivalent', not tooling.

Scope matches the title: Vale wiring (.vale.ini, gitignore for styles/, vocabulary), the just lint-prose recipe, an AGENTS.md convention bullet, and a typo/front-matter sweep over three docs. Clobber none: git log on every changed file shows only the branch's own commits and main merges; the two front-matter quote fixes repair genuinely invalid YAML (colon-space inside plain scalars) and the typo sweep is complete within the hunks. Correctness — I simulated the recipe's argument and changed-file pipeline end to end (multi-arg, empty, deleted-file, glob-char, gitignore cases): all behave as documented. Verification log
1. sh /tmp/lintprobe.sh and /tmp/lintprobe2.sh — exit 0 · self-reported
Simulated the {{quote(args)}} interpolation for two args ('a.md b.md' → word-splits to two paths) and for empty args (falls through to default mode). Both behave correctly.
2. git ls-files '*.md' | grep -E '[ *?\[\]]' — exit 1 · self-reported
No tracked markdown path contains a space or a glob character, so the unquoted
--allexpansion and the documented no-space limitation cannot bite in this repo.
3. git check-ignore -v styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt — exit 1 · self-reported
The vocabulary file is not ignored;
styles/ai-tellsis ignored via .gitignore:15. The un-ignore chain/styles/*→!/styles/config/→/styles/config/*→!/styles/config/vocabularies/is correct.
4. simulate lint-prose changed-file pipeline in scratch git repo — exit 0 · self-reported
Default-mode collection (main...HEAD + staged + unstaged + untracked, sort -u, -f filter) returns the branch's changed and untracked .md files and correctly drops deleted files.
5. sed -n '430,436p' justfile; sed -n '1,5p' .vale.ini — exit 0 · self-reported

Clobber none: git log on all changed paths shows no recent fix reverted. Correctness — verified the machinery actually works rather than trusting the claims: both pinned package URLs resolve (200); vale sync strips the ai-tells zip's top-level dir so BasedOnStyles = ai-tells loads (ai-tells.HedgingPhrases and ste.Slop both fire on a probe file); --no-global, --, and Vale.Terms = NO are all real and behave as described; the gitignore keeps styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt tracked while ignoring synced styles; the default branch collects committed+staged+unstaged+untracked md and filters deleted paths via [ -f ]; both front-matter quote fixes are required (: inside a plain scalar is invalid YAML — confirmed both old values contain it). The recipe has two residual shell gaps, both low and below. One substantive issue is already open on the PR and not re-raised here: the sync guard ([ -d styles/ai-tells ] && [ -d styles/ste ] || vale sync) skips vale sync forever once styles/ exists, so bumping a Packages pin never takes effect and the .vale.ini claim that "lint results only move when this file changes" is false — see the three open threads on justfile:434/.vale.ini:2. Not checked: nothing here needs a build; vale itself was exercised via its release binary in a scratch dir.
What ran
8 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. curl -sIL both vale package download URLs — exit 0 · self-reported
ai-tells.zip (v1.31.0) and ste.zip (v0.1.1) both resolve to release assets with HTTP 200.
2. vale sync + lint probe in /tmp/valetest with repo .vale.ini — exit 0 · self-reported
sync strips the ai-tells zip's top-level dir, producing styles/ai-tells/*.yml that matches the guard and BasedOnStyles; probe file flagged by ai-tells.HedgingPhrases, ai-tells.OverusedVocabulary, ste.Slop — both styles load and fire.
3. recipe default-branch shell logic on scratch git repo — exit 0 · self-reported
changed = committed new.md + untracked test.md; deleted old.md dropped by [ -f "$f" ]; base resolves, sort -u dedupes.
4. glob expansion with vs without set -f — exit 0 · self-reported
args='x*.md' with a literal x*.md and x1.md present: explicit-args branch lints 2 files (glob expands), with set -f set first lints 1 file — confirms the branch-order gap.
5. git diff --name-only A...B with no merge base — exit 128 · self-reported
'fatal: A...B: no merge base'; inside the recipe's { ... } | sort -u pipeline the exit status is sort's, so the recipe continues with a partial file set.
6. python check for ': ' in old front-matter values — exit 0 · self-reported
Both release-pipeline.md description and TEMPLATE.md arch contain ': ' in their unquoted values — invalid in YAML plain scalars, so the quote fixes are required, not churn.
7. sort -d accept.txt; git check-ignore styles/ — exit 0 · self-reported
474 vocabulary lines, no duplicates, no trailing whitespace; accept.txt is tracked, styles/ai-tells would be ignored — gitignore negation works.
8. git log --oneline -5 on each changed docs path — exit 0 · self-reported
No recent fix on any changed path is reverted by this PR; last touches are this branch's own or unrelated commits.

Scope matches the title. 8 files, all tooling/docs for Vale prose linting: the .vale.ini and justfile recipe, the .gitignore dance, a 474-entry vocabulary, the AGENTS.md convention, and a small in-scope doc sweep (front-matter colons quoted in TEMPLATE.md/release-pipeline.md, typos fixed in the networking spec). Two minor drifts in the PR body vs the tree: the vocabulary is 474 lines (body says 472) and --all now covers 76 tracked md files (body says 74); cosmetic only. Clobber none: per-file git log cb384e31..8ad1a4c8 shows every change comes from the branch's own commits (91ba16c, a8d2b4f, f988858, 8e7f4fd, 5d69ddd, de6d5cf, 2cdbd1a); the two main merges are clean. Correctness two findings below, one of which (the sync guard) was already raised by earlier reviewers in unresolved threads — re-raised because the false claim in .vale.ini itself is the anchor and it is still open at head. Verified: both pinned Packages URLs return HTTP 200 (the recipe would fail on first use otherwise); the .gitignore negation sequence does track styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt (git check-ignore and git ls-files agree); _need "vale" exists; the PR's injection claim holds (shell does not re-parse $()/; from word-split variable expansion, so just lint-prose 'x;$(touch …)' reaches vale as inert words); no secret patterns in the diff. Two further open threads on this PR are real and remain unaddressed but are already posted, so not re-raised here: set -f is applied only in the default branch (justfile:470), leaving glob expansion live in the --all/explicit-args branches, and the three-dot git diff "$base...HEAD" inside $(…) silently drops the committed set when there is no merge base (shallow clone). Not checked: running vale itself (needs the binary plus a first-run package fetch — outside this review's build-free bounds), so the PR's 3,673/2,282 existing-alert counts and the ste/ai-tells rule behavior are taken on trust.

Verification log
1. curl -sIL on both .vale.ini Packages URLs — exit 0 · self-reported
Both pinned URLs (ai-tells v1.31.0, ste v0.1.1) return HTTP 200; the first-run fetch will work.
2. git ls-files 'styles/**' && git check-ignore -v styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt — exit 1 · self-reported
check-ignore exit 1 = not ignored; ls-files lists the vocab file, so the .gitignore negation sequence tracks it correctly.
3. grep -nE '(api[_-]?key|secret|token|ghp_|AKIA|BEGIN (RSA|OPENSSH|PRIVATE))' .review/pr.diff — exit 1 · self-reported
No secret patterns in the diff (gitleaks not installed; targeted regex used).

6. wc -l styles/config/vocabularies/Minimal/accept.txt; git ls-files '*.md' | wc -l — exit 0 · self-reported

Scope matches the title. Adds Vale prose linting: .vale.ini + gitignored styles/, the lint-prose just recipe, AGENTS.md conventions, and the inventory/typo/front-matter fixes so the touched docs lint clean. The AGENTS.md crate/workflow inventory tables were deliberately replaced with pointers (required by inventory.StatedCount); I verified the new pointers are accurate — architecture.md §0 groups crates by plane and §3 lists roles, ci-strategy.md §9 covers what runs where — and that the front-matter quoting fixes (arch:, release-pipeline description) fix real colon-space YAML parse breaks.
Clobber none: git log on every changed file shows only this branch's own vale-lint commits; the doc edits are typo fixes, not reverts. Working tree matches HEAD.
Correctness The recipe logic was probed end-to-end with a vale shim across the default / --all / explicit-args branches: the diff-based default set is computed correctly, multi-file args work (just's quote() without set lists merges to one quoted word that word-splits back), and the injection path stays inert. I verified the load-bearing Vale semantics against vale.sh docs rather than assuming them: vale sync reads exactly one config file and never the user-level one, so the recipe's --no-global omission on the sync line is a non-issue; a package's .vale.ini is copied into styles/.vale-config/ and read before the project's, so the repo's two-key .vale.ini genuinely inherits BasedOnStyles/Vocab/MinAlertLevel from the prose-rules package (v1.1.0 exists on GitHub releases); and vale exits non-zero only on error-level alerts, so the "not a CI gate" claim holds. just runs recipes from the justfile's directory, so the relative styles/ and git ls-files paths are safe. No new defects found beyond what is already on this PR: the sync guard that makes the Packages pin unobservable (justfile:448, open threads), set -f placed after the args branches (justfile:454), the shallow-clone no-merge-base silent drop (justfile:462), and the --all branch's missing existence filter (justfile:450) are all already raised and open, so I did not re-raise them. One new edge case — just lint-prose --all <file> sends a literal --all path to vale — is user error under the documented [files|--all] syntax and below the bar to report.
Not checked an actual vale run: the binary and the styles package are not present here, and building/installing them was out of scope. The package's .vale.ini → .vale-config/ mechanism and the recursive ste/ai-tells pull are confirmed against Vale's docs and the prose-rules repo, not by execution.

Verification log
1. Probed lint-prose recipe sh logic with a vale shim across 5 arg scenarios — exit 0 · self-reported
Default branch computed the changed md set (base diff + staged + unstaged + untracked) and passed it to vale after the [ -f ] filter; --all and single-file branches behave as documented. Scenario '--all ' sends a literal --all path to vale (the one edge case, below report threshold).
2. sh parse probe: args='a.md' 'b.md' — exit 127 · self-reported
Confirms sh would execute a second quoted word as a command — which would break the recipe only if just emitted separate quoted words. Disproven: just's quote() without set lists merges variadic args into one quoted string (casey/just#647), so multi-file args word-split back correctly.
3. vale.sh docs: sync config isolation, Packages/.vale-config, exit codes — self-reported
vale sync reads exactly one config file and never the user-level one, so the --no-global omission on the sync line is a non-issue; a package's .vale.ini lands in styles/.vale-config/ read before the project's (making the repo's minimal .vale.ini work); vale exits 0 for warnings/suggestions, non-zero only on error-level alerts — advisory-only claim holds.
4. just docs: quote() semantics and default recipe working directory — self-reported
Just runs recipes from the directory containing the justfile, so the recipe's relative styles/ and git paths are safe; quote() on a variadic merges args into one shell-quoted word without set lists (this justfile enables none).
5. git log --oneline on all changed files; git diff HEAD -- changed files — exit 0 · self-reported
History on the 8 changed files shows only this branch's own commits (vale-lint work, prose-rules pin, inventory drop); no recent main work reverted. Working tree matches HEAD for every changed file.
6. prose-rules package: GitHub releases + repo tree — self-reported
v1.1.0 exists (2026-09-19) with prose-rules.zip; the package's .vale.ini sets BasedOnStyles=Vale, ste, ai-tells, inventory, Vocab=Minimal, MinAlertLevel=suggestion — consistent with the repo's two-key .vale.ini relying on it as the base config. Repo tree confirms styles/inventory/StatedCount.yml and the Minimal vocabulary.
7. Read docs/architecture.md §0/§3 and docs/ci-strategy.md §9 — self-reported
New AGENTS.md pointers verified accurate: architecture.md §0 groups crates by plane, §3 is the crate table with roles; ci-strategy.md §9 'What runs where' covers the CI lanes.

Scope matches the stated intent: adding Vale prose linting plus the .gitignore, AGENTS.md doc rewrites, the inventory first-party style, and the vocabulary. The doc edits trace to the lint (front-matter YAML quoting, typo sweep, and the inventory-count removals). Clobber none: git log on justfile and AGENTS.md shows only this branch's own vale commits and unrelated main merges; nothing reverts a recent fix. Correctness one finding below (multi-file just lint-prose invocation). The resolved review threads cover the package-pin/sync-guard gap, the set -f/glob ordering in the --all and explicit-args branches, the $base...HEAD merge-base failure, and the ai-tells-vs-AiTells package naming; I did not re-raise those. Verified the two pinned package URLs resolve (302 to the release asset), ls crates/ shows 31 matching the count, and docs/architecture.md §3 is indeed "Crate map". Not checked: whether Vale actually consumes the styles end-to-end (would need vale installed) and just's quote list behavior (would need just); the multi-file finding is reasoned from just's quote being UnaryMap (maps over list elements) plus POSIX-sh assignment semantics.

Tell it when it is wrong. 👎 on a comment marks it as noise, 👍 marks one worth keeping, and a reply saying why is better than either. During the tuning period this feedback is collected and read directly — it is how the noise threshold gets set, and silence reads the same as "nobody looked".
The networking spec carried five misspellings (specificaiton, exlude, paramterized, supoprt, dyanically). release-pipeline.md and the spec TEMPLATE had unquoted YAML front-matter values containing ': ', which strict YAML parsers and vale's front-matter reader both reject.
`just lint-prose` lints every tracked .md through three styles at their authored levels: Vale (spelling, via a 517-term project vocabulary), amoslives/vale-ste (ASD-STE100 mechanical rules), and the hub's ai-tells package (AI-prose fingerprints). --no-global keeps a personal ~/.vale.ini from leaking its styles into the repo's run. Vale.Terms is off: the vocabulary exists to accept project terms in Spelling, and Terms' casing enforcement has no sentence-start tolerance, flagging correct prose for common nouns. Baseline on the existing tree: 3,666 errors, 2,273 warnings.
lint-prose now takes optional file args for the touched-file workflow, and AGENTS.md records the convention: drive edited files to zero, leave untouched files' alerts alone, extend the vocabulary for project terms.
lint-prose syncs when the synced packages are missing, so a fresh clone needs no manual step; warm runs stay offline. AGENTS.md drops the style-level detail and keeps only how to run the linter.
Render a clean just --list summary for lint-prose (only the last comment line is shown), drop the em-dash the linter flags in the new AGENTS.md bullet, and dedupe case-twin vocabulary entries (Spelling accepts any casing; 517 to 472 lines, tree-wide Spelling count unchanged at zero).
The default lint set is now the markdown a branch touches (committed against main, staged, unstaged, untracked), so the common loop is a bounded hit list rather than the tree-wide flood; explicit files and --all cover the other cases. Recipe args interpolate instead of relying on positional params, which shebang recipes do not receive here (verified with a minimal recipe).
Recipe args now interpolate through {{quote(args)}} so shell
metacharacters stay inert (verified with an injection probe; positional
params do not reach shebang recipes in this just version). The base ref
falls back from main to origin/main and fails closed when neither
exists. Changed-file collection disables glob expansion and passes --
before paths. Both packages pin to reviewed releases (ai-tells v1.31.0,
ste v0.1.1) so lint results only move when .vale.ini changes.
Co-authored-by: github-actions[bot] <41898282+github-actions[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
The vocabulary, the pinned ste and ai-tells packages, BasedOnStyles and Vale.Terms now live in gominimal/prose-rules, so this repo's .vale.ini holds only StylesPath and the package URL. lint-prose is unchanged; its sync check still resolves ai-tells and ste, which the package pulls in recursively.
v1.1.0 adds the inventory style, which rejects a stated count of the things the repository owns.
AGENTS.md stated six counts (binaries, crates, workflows, aggregators, nightlies) and restated two inventories that live elsewhere: the crate map, copied from docs/architecture.md §3, and the CI lane map. A count or a copy is wrong the next time the list changes; release PR 23929a6 already showed the workflow count coming back through a stale branch. Name the items instead of counting them, and replace the two tables with pointers to the documents that own them plus the command that prints the current set (`ls crates/`, `ls .github/workflows/`). Add the rule to Conventions and hard rules. Name the malachite crates in docs/internal/licensing.md instead of counting them.
The rules live in the repo, not in a separate package. `.vale.ini` pins `ste` and `ai-tells` directly and names the first-party `inventory` style. The vocabulary and that style are tracked under `styles/`; the rest of `styles/` stays ignored, rebuilt by `vale sync`. This reverts the move to gominimal/prose-rules (b73a6b0, 3063f8a) and carries over the `inventory` style that landed there for v1.1.0.
The unquoted title holds a second colon, which strict YAML rejects. Vale stops the whole run on that front-matter error, so `just lint-prose --all` never reached a verdict on a tree that contains the file.
The existence-only guard froze a warm checkout at its first sync: styles/ is gitignored, so nothing removes styles/ai-tells and styles/ste once they land, and `vale sync` never ran again. Bumping a package pin in .vale.ini then left every later run linting the previous rules. Stamp the sync with a `cksum` of .vale.ini and sync again whenever the stamp or either package directory is missing. The recipe also resolves the file list once, so explicit paths, --all, and the branch's changed markdown share one filter-and-invoke path.
