Good car, but expensive, inflexible and difficult to plan around
Overall, I would rate my experience with Clyde 2 out of 5 stars.
There are some positive points. The booking process makes it clear exactly which car you will receive, rather than only promising a vehicle category. The car itself was also in good condition and I had no complaints about its quality.
However, the subscription feels far too expensive and inflexible overall.
The mandatory delivery fee of CHF 290 is hard to justify, especially because there was no option to collect the car myself and avoid the fee. For a shorter subscription, this one-off charge can easily add around CHF 100 per month to the real cost of the car.
Returning the car creates another significant charge or inconvenience: either pay CHF 150 for collection, or bring the car back yourself. I can do this in my case, but for many customers the return location may be far away and cost considerable time. It is difficult to understand why both the delivery and return process come with such high additional costs.
The return process is also unnecessarily restrictive. You cannot simply return the car during normal opening hours; you need to arrange a specific appointment. This adds another layer of planning and makes the service less convenient than a car subscription should be.
The delivery timeline was my biggest issue. At the time of booking, there was no reliable delivery date. You only receive an update once the car is ready, which can mean waiting several weeks without knowing whether it will be three, four or five weeks. I booked the car specifically for an upcoming trip, but it was delivered only after those plans. I therefore had to arrange another car, which defeated the purpose of the subscription.
I was also surprised by how extensively every small mark or imperfection was photographed during handover. Documenting a vehicle is reasonable, but the process felt very strict. I have seen other reviews mentioning high charges for minor damage, so I will be paying close attention to the return process.
Because I booked under a promotional offer, extending the subscription would increase my monthly price by almost 50%. Even at the discounted rate, the overall value does not feel convincing. In my view, the price would need to be at least another 30% lower to reflect the limited flexibility, uncertain delivery timeline and high one-off fees.
What Clyde could improve:
* Provide a clear and realistic delivery or collection date before customers complete a booking.
* Reconsider the CHF 290 delivery fee and CHF 150 collection fee, particularly for shorter subscriptions.
* Allow customers to return vehicles during normal opening hours instead of requiring a fixed appointment in every case.
* Offer more collection and return locations. Having only one location in Lupfig can be impractical for customers who live far away.
* Make the overall process more flexible and predictable, which is one of the main reasons people choose a car subscription.
The car itself was good, but I would not recommend Clyde based on the overall value, high mandatory fees and lack of flexibility.
