Spent a lot of time and energy reserving a car from this website and right after I got the confirmation email, they sent another email saying my reservation was cancelled. No explanation or details. VERY frustrating.

AVOID THIS RENTAL CAR COMPANY.

I booked a car through one of their brokers. According to their policy, if you are more than 30 minutes late, the booking can be cancelled. I was approximately 40 minutes late, but only because I was stuck waiting in the queue behind other customers.

They completely ignored the fact that I had been waiting in line and simply told me that I was late. They then said that, if I wanted to keep my reservation, I had to purchase their full insurance policy and additional extras, increasing the total cost to almost five times the original price.

There was no real option to get a refund, and the staff were extremely rude and unhelpful throughout the whole experience.

In my opinion, this was an extremely unfair and frustrating experience. I would strongly recommend avoiding this company.

Target Rent Rome Fiumicino location did not honor a month of May pre approved and prepaid rental reservation of 4 weeks and tried to upsell of 1K more to a higher category vehicle, alleging that we were an hour late from our reservation and so it didn’t need to be honored, wasting hours of our time and leaving us with having to make other travel arrangements after a long international flight. Thanks car rental 8 for not responding to email and the almost “Italian job” upon arrival.

Went to collect the car from the Carrental8 agent in Dubrovnik airport mid July 2026, Croatia (Mohammed Abdelmonem operating under 'Carjoy' or addcar , both with no website ).
We were forced to take out extra insurance or else call the police according to him!
I did not want the extra insurance as I already have an AA car hire insurance policy!
I've been renting cars from various companies for the last twenty years (believe it or not without any complaints!).
So 35° heat with my family in some carpark way outside the main airport and he tells me go look for a car somewhere else if I don't want the insurance.
Under coercion I had to pay as one of my children was feeling faint with the heat and we hadn't eaten since the flight.
Total scam.
Lesson learned, stick to the main companies.
I've sent customer complaints but doubt they'll reply because that's the nature of the scam.

The saddest part ... when I was dropping back the keys another couple (Dutch or German I'm not sure) were also involved in his scan but slightly different... "Sorry the credit card machine isn't working for your credit card, but if you take out extra insurance you can get the car. Surprise surprise ! His machine accepted their debit card for a couple of hundred Euro extra insurance.

Interestingly enough he 'borrowed' my pen and 'forgot' to return it also until I reminded him. What guy working in an office doesn't have a working pen?

Following the exact same nightmare experience my brother went through with this company, I am warning everyone to stay far away from CarRental8.

I booked and paid for a rental car for our trip, but when I showed up at the Europcar desk in Ängelholm, the staff looked at me blankly and said my booking didn't exist. There was no reservation, no inquiry, and no cars available anywhere. We were completely stranded through zero fault of our own.

Dealing with their support team has been an absolute joke. Instead of apologizing for leaving us high and dry, they offered defensive excuses and zero accountability. They promised to "investigate" weeks ago, but I am still sitting here waiting for a real human response and my refund.

Do yourself a huge favor: skip the third-party brokers and book directly with a real rental agency if you actually want a car when you arrive.

Low ball quote then get charged a bunch more by the actual rental car company. Returned it early and NO refund was received. Also, wrong vehicle at pickup; delayed and had to make changes.

When I arrived in Italy to pick up car, firstly the shuttle bus took ages to come for us. Then when we got to the hire office, green motion (who was the supplier) wouldn’t accept my credit card as it was within 6 month of expiry. This is a crazy rule as there was still months on the card before it expired. This left me & my wife stranded without transport. Thankfully we went to Europcar who accepted my card without issue. I am now waiting on a refund for the service which I didn’t receive. On top of this, I was also charged £25 to call car rental8 as they’re based in America! VERY POOR- DO NOT USE!!

The company did not flag that the supplier closes early (4 p.m. on a Saturday), despite their location at a major international airport. No provision was given for out-of-hours pickup, and I was not warned or contacted prior to the desk closing. Thus I was forced to rent another car. Furthermore the company does not respond to customer service emails. Do not use this company if you want decent service or a rental car.

Do not use this company! I booked and fully paid for two car rentals through CarRental8 (acting via Momondo) for a trip to Sweden. My brother and I arrived at the Europcar counter in Ängelholm on August 6, 2026, exactly as scheduled, only to be told by Europcar staff that they had no record of any booking or inquiry from CarRental8 and that no cars were available.

Because of their system failure, we were left completely stranded at the counter and had to rush back home just to figure out alternative travel plans.

When I contacted customer support, their response was shocking. Instead of apologizing or taking responsibility, they blamed me for not calling them from the counter—even though Europcar already confirmed they had no cars available to give us anyway. They have since dragged their feet on issuing our refunds (£147.78 per booking), forcing me to raise disputes through PayPal.

Awful customer service, unreliable booking system, and zero accountability. Save yourself the stress and book directly with a real rental company.

Warning before booking!
We just booked a car through them for Malaga and as soon as we received the confirmation email, we noticed that the driver's residency was set to US, even though upon booking we switched it to Italian. In fact (and we recorded a video for proof afterwards), when we noticed that there was a US flag, we clicked on it and selected the Italian. The page reloaded and was fully in Italian, but what we did not notice was that the flag did not change and instead it got locked on the US one.
When we inserted our personal data, we even put an Italian post code, and it did not show any error.

I'd like to clarify that our rating refers to the frustrating experience we are living at the moment. We already wrote to customer service, and we'll edit the review and rating according to how this situation will be managed.

I have a booking in place that I need to amend and have emailed the Car Rental 8 many times and no one responds. I also tried to contact them from their website "contact us" form and it doesn't work. I tried to amend the booking on line and they want an extra $500 to move the booking one week later, that's absurd. It's the same booking with only one extra day and one week later. I won't book with them again as there's no way to reach anyone to discuss changes or problems.

I have tried several times to contact site via ‘contact us’ on their site. I rented a vehicle. Paid in full. Money came out of my account. Did not receive receipt or confirmation. Cannot contact company. DO NoT RENT FROM

To be honest, I find it hard to understand why they have such a poor rating. I was really worried about booking with them and ending up with a scam, but everything went really well from start to finish… Hertz had quoted me $850, whereas with Carrental8, I paid $450 for exactly the same model from… Hertz, lol. I highly recommend them.

Terrible so-called company. We rented a car through them in Malta, only to discover a company called Smart Mobility that was so dodgy you can't imagine. All the cars shown on their website are fake. They only have old, heavily scuffed cars. The ones offered to us didn't have working air conditioning. We cancelled the so-called contract and asked Carrental8 to refund our money. Nothing happened. They didn't even bother to acknowledge receipt of our email. Stay away from Carrental8 and Smart Mobility Malta like the plague.

Searching for car hire in Corfu. Used CarRental8, found a car, booked it, confirmation received.All good. Specifically requested car hire in the airport, had to walk half a km with all the suitcases in the midday heat. Not in the airport! That sucked. Email from CR8 said to contact them if there are any issues. Messaged them 3 times to say our flight was delayed and could they let the hire company know. Received a reply 3 days later. Asked for support dealing with the car hire company as they had supplied an illegal car (seatbelts not functioning), they said contact the car hire company! Chocolate teapot springs to mind. Take my advice, go direct to one of the bigger companies. You get what you pay for!

I urgently need to modify my booking as my partner the original driver fell ill and now cannot drive so I need to change it for my sister to drive me around. I have been calling and emailing and no response! I am stuck at the airport with no hope and no customer service!

My experience with Car Rental 8 has been deeply frustrating. This is a massive company that relies on dynamic pricing tricks rather than actually looking after paying customers.

Phantom "Discounts". To cap off an already poor experience, I was sent a promotional email offering a "5% saving" if I booked via their link.

When I clicked through, the price was completely identical to the quote I received yesterday. Zero discount applied. It's totally misleading marketing.

Opaque & Hidden Policies. Nothing is explained clearly upfront. Terms are vague, pricing fluctuates wildly, and trying to get straightforward details on what you are actually paying for feels impossible.

Dismissive Staff. The customer service is completely laid back to a fault. The staff have a total "couldn't care less" attitude and offer zero useful assistance when asked basic questions.

If you value transparency, honest pricing, and basic respect as a customer, avoid Car Rental 8.

There are much better, far more reliable options out there.

Edit 28/7 - so I still haven’t received any form of communication from them. No choice but to now file a section 75 as I don’t even know if there is anyone at this company. Wonder where the customer service emails go……….let’s have a guess!

27/7 Just cancelled my booking.

Emailed twice with a really simple question about a future booking.

No acknowledgement to the email of any sort. Can’t risk that this is the service if there’s an issue at pick-up. Would rather find an alternative booking firm.

Seems to be a strategy of ignoring customers or seeing who blinks first. Either way, no time for this kind of service. There’s plenty to pick from that worrying about the booking is not a strategy I need!

Booked via Kayak and found their attractive offer.
Selected car, filled in everything they asked and paid everything in advance. I also chose extra insurance above their mentioned basic one included. After that I got a message from them and an additional email from the third party insurance company mentioning residence US (the correct one is a EU country) even though I was never asked and I filled every necessary field.
The insurer’s email expressly mentioned that if I am not a US citizen the insurance is not valid. Tried canceling the booking and the insurance, tried sending them emails. Nothing worked.
Upon car pickup from Europcar I found out that we dont even have basic insurance. And paying at the counter would have meant more than the initial booking just for insurance.

The whole setup seems like a scam to rip people off as after the booking I saw similar reviews from other customers since 2 years ago.

It would have been much cheaper booking car and buying a full insurance through a legit alternative.
