Booked via Kayak and found their attractive offer.
Selected car, filled in everything they asked and paid everything in advance. I also chose extra insurance above their mentioned basic one included. After that I got a message from them and an additional email from the third party insurance company mentioning residence US (the correct one is a EU country) even though I was never asked and I filled every necessary field.
The insurer’s email expressly mentioned that if I am not a US citizen the insurance is not valid. Tried canceling the booking and the insurance, tried sending them emails. Nothing worked.
Upon car pickup from Europcar I found out that we dont even have basic insurance. And paying at the counter would have meant more than the initial booking just for insurance.

The whole setup seems like a scam to rip people off as after the booking I saw similar reviews from other customers since 2 years ago.

It would have been much cheaper booking car and buying a full insurance through a legit alternative.

I thought I was set for my weekend getaway when I booked a car through CarRental8, but it quickly turned into a headache. The confirmation said everything was good to go, yet when I showed up at the rental location, there was no car reserved for me. I had to scramble to find another option, which cost me a lot more than I planned. On top of that, customer service was slow to respond to my inquiries, leaving me feeling frustrated and ignored. I really wanted to like this service, but this experience was disappointing.

Please avoid this company if you value your money. I have arrived 1 hour and 30 min late from the pickup time i have requested due to ferry delay. My reservation was cancelled and because this is an American company you are not able to phone them but fill in a form on their website. The replay was 2 days later. If you don't want your holiday ruin then i recommend to not use this company. Bitter experience!

Had a query. Really difficult to get a straight answer from them. It felt like the response was coming from AI via a poor translater. Useless. Not a company I would use again.

Terrible customer service.

I booked a car well in advance but they didn’t have the correct size when I picked it up. Not too much of an issue initially as they offered an alternative. The alternative was smaller so had a lower daily cost associated with it. A refund was agreed to compensate for the price difference, however 7 weeks later and I was still without payment despite numerous chases.

I would avoid this company - there are plenty of other options to choose from

UPDATE: Order was finally cancelled and payment refunded minus charges. I do not understand why full payment was not refunded as rental company did not fulfill its obligation that were promised. Company must be fully transparent towards its customers and this was not the case hence my request for cancellation. Company was very difficult to contact.
One of the worst car companies I had to deal with. Do not be fooled by their low prices because at pick up new hidden costs emerge. I refused to take the car after the hidden charges emerged but getting refund is a nightmare … they sending in circles … still ongoing … I call this a big scam … avoid this company at all costs

Terrible service, gave the car away then tried to contact car rental 8 for weeks with no response. I have no car and currently out of pocket for the full rental amount.

Avoid at all costs - no matter how cheap it looks. Do not use

I booked a car through Skyscanner ==> Carrental8 ==> Surprice car rental in Sardinia.
When i arrived in Sardinia, Surprice car rental company refused to give me the car as my some part of my name on my credit card erased.
I could not get the car but full payment was taken for the booking.
I contact Carrental8 and asked for refund and they deduct some admin fee but they refund me.

Just rented a car through car rental 8 and the car was supplied by euro car at almeria airport.
I usually don't take extra insurance but their advert set it up as it was a additional insurance supplied by euro car.

Went to collect the car to be told that there was no additional insurance cover and if I wanted to cover the car it would cost a additional £320 for the hire period
Also because they didn't have insurance I was sold by car rental8, I had to pay a additional £800 deposit which I wasn't expecting.
I declined the insurance, paid the deposit, fortunately I hire several times a year and has excess insurance elsewhere.

I was sent no car insurance details by car rental8, so contacted them on several occasions and to date have never had any reply.

So overall, if the car is being supplied by a reasonable hire firm, ie, euro car, and the quote is cheap then go with them but on no account take any insurance they offer.
You can get excess insurance very reasonably before you go, don't believe that car rental8 will help or cover you in the event of any incident.
Fortunately, took my car back today , euro car found no damage and refunded my deposit

So be aware, their insurance packages are misleading, leaving you to believe you are paying for a extra basic plus service from the car hire company,
They would reply to you and you won't be covered resulting in you losing your deposit and possibly huge further charges

You have been warned!!!

There terrible car service don’t waste your time

I was going to hire a car from this company in Bulgaria..only to find that the small car I wanted was a big jeep 4x4...when I said I did not want this car they said ..it was the only one they had....
After contacting the company they told me I was offered another small car....this was blatant lies..I was never offered a smaller car...also they wanted a thousand pound deposit...also you did not get your deposit back til after 1 month past...
Stay away from this CAR RENTAL 8 TOTAL SCAN

I booked a vehicle through this platform with an explicitly contracted pickup cutoff time of 22:00. The designated supplier was Avis (Geneva Airport, French side). I arrived at the counter at 21:51, well before the deadline, only to find the Avis desk completely dark and prematurely closed. No prior communication or schedule changes were ever sent to me by either party.

This total failure of service left my party stranded late at night, causing massive distress as I was traveling with my partner who is undergoing active cancer treatment. We were forced to pay out-of-pocket for emergency local accommodation just to get her somewhere safe to rest.

To make matters worse, when collecting the car the next morning, Avis hit me with inflated deposit adjustments and extra charges due to their own early closure. I have given customer service ample time and the benefit of the doubt to resolve this billing discrepancy, but both the broker and Avis are completely dragging their feet, passing the buck, and delaying any real response.

Because of their intentional stalling and refusal to take ownership of a clear breach of contract, I have been forced to escalate this to the French consumer authorities (SignalConso). I will be doing the same to the European Consumer Centre (ECC). I fully expect a complete refund for the unjustified overcharges and the emergency costs incurred by their negligence.

Avoid this platform if you expect contractual terms to be honoured or any form of competent customer support when things go wrong.

I booked this rental through KAYAK and did not realize I was being routed to CarRental8, a third-party broker with a $75 cancellation fee or 10% which ever is GREATER. I canceled because I entered the wrong dates (a little frazzled for a funeral) and did not use the rental. So the $110 deal wasn't a great deal.

Hopeless customer service… I have emailed three times with questions for my booking this coming Thursday (2nd of July) and I’ve still not received any response. There is only an email address and no other way of contacting. Please can someone contact me as a matter of urgency!!

Edit - Car rental 8 has just replied asking for booking number - 355337115 - I’m not sure why you can’t just look through your emails and find the 3 emails I sent you under the same name? Please respond back to my emails urgently

Edit 2 - they finally got back to me, however provided me the incorrect information, they informed me I could not get the hire car with a debit card if I was not doing a round trip. They need to update their information for AVIS in France because I got there and was able to do exactly that. I have increased to 3 stars just because I got the car at a good price and the insurance was also cheap.

I had a very disappointing experience when I collected my rental car. The booking was made through Car Rental 8, supplied by AVIS.

Firstly the Avis documentation indicated that there were lots of scratches and dents on the car. The operator didn't accompany me to the car the to check / review the reported damage. This was very disappointing as it meant that I would then need to check the car carefully myself to ensure that there wasn't any unreported damage, which I would then become responsible for.

When I eventually found the car, which took over 15 minutes as the operator didn't know where it was parked, the car was filthy both inside and out. The outside was so dirty it was impossible to check the reported damage and verify if there was any other damage, which puts me at risk of additional charges. The inside of the car had stains on both front seats and dirty foot wells, the boot area was caked in a muddy residue. See photos

I was informed that the radio antenna was missing, but told that this wouldn't affect the operation of the car radio. However, this wasn't the case as the radio reception was very poor and therefore unusable.

I reported all this to the operator at the time who said that she would discuss these issues with her manager and come back to me the following day and I was told that there were no other cars available. The promised call back didn't happen and they basically ignored all the reported problems.

When driving the car away from the airport I noticed that the fuel tank wasn't completely full and also that the car judders in the lower gears.

Overall both the car and the collection experience have been very disappointing and it appears that the operator AVIS wasn't intending to resolve these issues.

I reported all of this to Car Rental 8 by email, I've heard nothing back from them.

I received a telephone call from Car Rental 8 (CR8) last week, apologising for the poor service that I had received. They confirmed that this was not the service they expected their provider to deliver and that they are awaiting feedback from Avis on this matter. CR8 have given me a £50 refund, whilst they wait for more information from their supplier AVIS.

I've increased my rating score from 1 to 2, as CR8 have contacted me and apologised poor service and made a compensation offer.

If I could i would give them a negative. There is no customer support. We booked a reservation in March for a June trip. Arrived at the car rental desk. Budget refused to give us the car because the drop off location was permanently closed. Budget COULD NOT modify the drop off location. I tried calling Car Rental 8 but there was no customer service. I completed the form that was linked and asked for a return call. Two weeks went bye. No response. I finally called the line to make a reservation. The customer service person repeatedly interrupted me and put me on hold. I asked for his name or ID number. He refused to give it to me and hung up. I called back and got the same person. He hung up on me again.

I am reporting it to my credit card company as fraud. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM.

After reading some negative reviews i was sceptical about going through car rental 8 to book our hired car. We got a fantastic deal for 2 weeks, a 8 seater and just went with it. I am so glad now we did. Was an absolutely fantastic service. We hired a car with Dollar and I went onto the Dollar website and online chatted with them and they were able to confirm everything was ready to go. When we arrived into Toronto the dollar car rental shop was a short walk away outside terminal 3. The vehicle they gave us was immaculate. They were finishing hoovering the car when we arrived as our plane had arrived early. They do freeze a $350 on your credit card as a security deposit and when we returned the car that was such a easy process to unfreeze the money, it does take 3-5 working days to unfreeze so just be aware of that. I cannot stress enough how amazing this service was. If you get a good deal with car rental 8 honestly go for it and then do as I did above, contact the service that will be giving you the vehicle and confirm everything. I will definitely be recommending and renting from this company again. No hidden costs, no stress when collecting or leaving back the vehicle. If I could give 10 stars I certainly would.

None of the links work on the booking sent to my email. I wish to cancel and cannot fet hold of anyone. The website link does not work. Can find my booking on budget but it refers me back to carrental8 which I cannot access.

Do not use car rental 8. My boyfriend booked a car with them as a third party broker. He is 22, paid a young driver fee and stated his age on booking. When arriving at Cagliari airport the company said he was too young to take the car and we had to contact car rental 8 for a refund. He had to pay a further £1200 at the airport for another car with a different company. Upon contacting car rental 8, we were told on multiple occasions the issue had been ‘escalated’ and we would receive an email. I called again and was told it would be 2-3 business days for a response, then after calling again 3 business days later told I was initially told 3-5 business days which was not true. I asked specifically to speak to the previous customer service assistant who dealt with our case and told he wasn’t available and that apparently the (pretty rude) call handler couldn’t deal with this so I should call back later. I refused and asked to speak to someone more senior and suddenly the operator I wanted before magically became available. He told me again it would be 5 business days and would be contacted. I then told him the company has now been holding £900 for a service they have not provided, and I will be making a claim to consumer authorities. Miraculously, on Sunday, a day after this last call, my boyfriend has received an email saying he will be refunded in 7-10 business days. They clearly thought we are young tourists and are going to give up on bothering them and they wouldn’t have to refund us. Do not use this company, especially as a young driver.
