⭐⭐ Very disappointing experience
⭐⭐ Very disappointing experience – Specsavers GPO Arcade, Henry Street, Dublin
I booked an appointment for 4pm and unfortunately the experience from the moment I arrived was extremely disappointing.
When I entered, I asked a member of staff where I needed to go. The gentleman I spoke to was very rude and dismissive. He looked me up and down and simply told me, in a very rude manner, that it was downstairs before walking away. As it was my first time there, it took me a while to figure out where I was supposed to go.
Despite having a 4pm appointment, I then waited nearly an hour before being seen.
I do want to give credit where it is deserved. The young optometrist who examined me was absolutely brilliant. He was very professional, friendly and clearly knew what he was doing. His customer service was excellent and he was the one positive part of the whole experience.
Unfortunately, things went downhill again afterwards. I was sent upstairs and told to wait. I waited another nearly 40 minutes before a staff member approached me and said someone would come to speak with me.
Eventually, an elderly gentleman sat down with me and explained that the issue with my glasses was that I needed reading glasses, but I had previously been given the wrong type. I had already paid €370 for two pairs of glasses in their store. I wasn't interested in arguing — I simply wanted the correct glasses and to get on with things.
I was told the new glasses would definitely be correct and would be ready on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, I drove from Naas into Dublin specifically to collect them, only to be told they were ready. Shortly afterwards, however, I received a phone call telling me that the new lenses did not fit the frames I had purchased from Specsavers in the first place.
I was then asked if I would be willing to purchase new frames. I said no. I was told that, alternatively, they would make new lenses for my existing frames, but they wouldn't be ready until the 29th. I agreed to this.
Today is 3 September, and I still have no glasses and, more importantly, I haven't received any update or communication from the store.
This has involved multiple trips, long waiting times, €370 already spent, incorrect glasses being provided in the first place, and now weeks of waiting for a solution.
I have tried to be patient throughout the whole process, but unfortunately the level of customer service and organisation has been extremely disappointing.
The optometrist deserves recognition because he was excellent, but unfortunately the overall experience with the store has been very poor.
I would not return to this branch again based on my experience. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and looks into what happened.
With heartfelt thanks to Dunmow Team
We have had so much trouble trying to get someone to take our concerns about our daughters’ hearing seriously. Yesterday’s appointment was such a great relief to be welcomed with patience and compassionate. The appointment had all the correct elements to it:
- Someone taking the time to listen to our concerns and not just assuming it is a wax problem or give the remark ‘she’s too young to experience hearing loss’.
- The fact that the person tested her for a bit longer when the results were inconsistent (which was exactly one of our concerns)
We love that our daughter left feeling listened to and heard. No pun intended.
Walking out with a few more answers and proof to process further investigation from ENT is such a relief as it seems the depleted NHS funds seem to be the barrier why we have been sent in circles , palmed off with assumptions and old wives tales like … she’ll grow out of it, maybe it’s wax build up, maybe it is using earphones too loud etc.
I honestly believe you have changed our lives in the pathway to a possible diagnosis and understanding what is actually happening and the matter with our daughters’ hearing loss and possible processing disorder.
I just called to make an appt

Clearly couldn’t be bothered to speak to me and find out what I required
Asked me to get a GP referral so that they can provide hearing aid- even before she’s worked out if I even need hearing aid.
Inaccurate online hearing screener.
First I preface this by pointing out that I have had a formal hearing test recently and my hearing is excellent for my age. Also, as a balance, I took a similar online test by HearingYou.Org.
Anyway, I was interested in the slim possibility of free tickets to events and gigs so I decided to take the offered free hearing screener test by specsavers.
Compared to hearingyou.org's free test it is very rudimentary. And it certainly is nothing like a formal hearing test.
You are asked to use headphones, and instructed to put the volume at 100% and turn off any noise cancelling and be sure your environment is quiet.
There are three tones, played not separately to each ear as in HearingYou.Org's tests but to both ears at once. You are asked to adjust volume up or down until you are at a comfortable listening volume. That is it.
I didn't need to adjust the first two tones but the third was quite shrill so I turned it down slightly.
Afterwards I turned my headphones volume back down so I don't concuss myself next time I use them and then clicked on my test results. Apparently, my hearing is bad and I need to book a payed test with specsavers.
Since I have very recently had a formal test and my hearing was deemed very good for my age group, I believe that the test results for specsavers online hearing test are inaccurate. In fact, I believe that what ever level of hearing you have, specsavers will direct you to get a paid hearing test with them.
It is a mystery.
My 102 Yr old mother still suffering
My 102 Yr old mother was admitted to hospital and lost one of her hearing aids. A replacement was requested. 4 weeks later, after multiple mistakes, obfuscation and downright lies, nothing has been done. My mother is now in a nursing home, bewildered and still unable to hear properly. And I still cannot tell her when the replacement will arrive, not that she would be able to hear me. DO NOT buy from this company, the service is atrocious
Incompetent service stole precious time with my dying father
I bought private hearing aids for my elderly father who was in a nursing home, to keep him connected to us in his final months. Instead, a continuous chain of manufacturer errors, severe administrative delays, and a total lack of urgency from the Specsavers Home Visit team ruined this precious time.
We ordered private hearing aids in February 2026. Due to incorrect moulds being sent multiple times, missing appointments, and staff claiming they did not regularly visit his area, the process dragged on for months. Specsavers was repeatedly told my father was terminally ill and that time was critical. Yet, despite constant chasing and escalation, he only received his proper, working hearing aids just two days before he passed away in July 2026.
He spent his final weeks unnecessarily isolated and unable to communicate properly with his family and friends. While Specsavers issued a full refund, no amount of money can return the precious time their incompetence stole from us. Their service was devoid of basic professional urgency or compassion.
Specsavers in Streatham
I attended Specsavers in Streatham and was assisted by Eugene. Eugene was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
Poor and uncaring service
Arranged a hearing test at home for my 91 year old mother. All went well and the franchised staff were very helpful. We agreed to purchase a set of hearing aids for around £1500.00. The fitting and testing all went well. After a couple of months an issue appeared with one ear. As discussed on purchase, we contacted Specsavers who passed us to the franchised staff, and asked for someone to visit(at their convenience) to help with the solution. They were extremely unhelpful and told us to send in the problem ear price and they would check it first. When we explained we were told they would visit anytime after the fitting, we were told they don’t have any staff available for home visits due to maternity leave and the only other staff member was covering all in house surgeries.
Clearly Specsavers home visit service is a sham!
Massive waste of time and money
Massive waste of time and money. Two attempts made at providing glasses fit for my use, both failed by some margin. Actually asked if I could get my old prescription from my previous opticians for them to copy. I went to Specsavers to save money, it's actually wasted my money as I was given no refund and had to go back to old opticians to order my glasses and pay twice. No issues at all once back with previous opticians.
I will never go back to specsavers
Excellent service
In Norwich I was seen by Rosie, an extremely professional young lady who took me through the whole procedure of fitting my hearing aids. She explained everything I needed clarified and was very pleasant.
The hearing aids were well set up and I couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience. I highly recommend dealing with the staff at that premisis. Thank you
POOR AFTERCARE FOR WAX GUARD BASE
My husband and I both have Phonak in the ear hearing aids. While the hearing side of it is good the aftercare when something goes wrong is not. The problem is with the wax guard base, not the wax guard itself, but the actual base that the wax guard sits in. These have to be sent away to be replaced (because they come out) which takes 2/3 weeks. This is happening every 2/3 months. I previously had Widex in the ear hearing aids which were not from Specsavers and the wax guard base only needed replacing once in the four years I used them. I would just like to know that is this a Phonak problem or a Specsavers Audiology department problem. Either way I would think twice about having new hearing aids which are Phonak or from Specsavers.
Booked an earwax removal appointment at…
Booked an earwax removal appointment at Specsavers audiology Bracknell two weeks ago. I was offered a Sunday appointment at 10.30 and have been preparing the ear by softening the wax before suction removal as instructed now totally deaf in the affected ear. Repeated text messages and email reminders have been received reminding me of the upcoming appointment. The appointment has just been cancelled with less than 48 hours notice due to staff not being available. Little apology received and the next available date was in 14 days time! Meanwhile searching for an alternative to Specsavers which i have managed to do. Clearly brand loyalty doesn't apply to audiology services at Specsavers Bracknell
Brilliant service
The optometrist L Watt was brilliant explained everything so well, made it very interesting, also the redhead man on reception was SO polite well done 🌞
Two tier service - NHS patients treated like dirt!
I wear NHS supplied hearing aids. Last year the Eastbourne branch of Specsavers took over the contract. Six weeks ago my left hearing aid stopped working. I visited the store and they told me that it was broken and could not be repaired even though they are only a year old. I was given an appointment to see an audiologist for 4 weeks later! Following my visit yesterday the audiologist said I needed a hearing test even though all I actually needed was new hearing aids. She gave me a hearing test and she told me that I would have to come back on 3rd September to have them fitted. Therefore in total a 12 week wait which in my view is unacceptable. Being without hearing aids where sounds are like holding your head underwater, is extremely uncomfortable. I find this incredible given that under the previous provider I had the hearing test and new hearing aids the same day.
I raised an objection in store and they told me that if an earlier appointment became available they would let me know, which was exactly what they said when they booked my appointment with the audiologist. Clearly this is a standard protocol that they tell everyone and I can only assume that they do not have the resources to manage the NHS contract.
I got my wife to call the store to enquire about having a hearing test and hearing aids privately and was told that it could be done in a few days! So clearly Specsavers are operating a two tiers system where NHS patients are treated like second class citizens, and I shall be raising the issue with my local NHS authority.
Westgate shop ignored me.
Went to Wakefield Specsavers for 11am appointment for wax removal. Gave up after waiting over 30 minutes.
Poorly trained staff
1 star grading only because no stars not available. My 94 year old father who is housebound needs hearing test and aids. We were advised to enquire if Specsavers had the NHS contract which would mean test and aids on NHS rather than paying the extortionate private cost. After giving their national call centre the GP practice name and town was advised they did have the NHS contract. Father thrilled. Called back today further information advised that call handler yesterday had simply looked for a tick and not checked further - the practice only has the contract for earwax removal in store. How are staff in a call centre, which I was told was the centre for booking home visits, so poorly trained by Specsavers that they are either not aware or cannot be bothered to check this most basic of information.
Father devastated.
Very poor service
Having recently attended Falmouth Specsavers hearing centre.
They adjusted my heating aids replacing one of them as it was not working correctly.
They don't seem to be able to calibrate my hearing aids correctly as my hearing is now poorer than when I went in.
I now find that my other hearing aid has stopped working.
These are NHS hearing aids I have had for 5 years but specsavers refuse to upgrade them even though there are failing all the time.
I have tried going a different route via the hearing centre at the hospital but get referred back to specsavers who's audiologist don't seem to have a clue for hearing triage!.
Specsavers at Sainsburys Biggleswade
After a pleasant and helpful reception, I was seen immediately and the consultant dealt politely and very swiftly with my problem, issuing a replacement hearing aid and updating my iphone software
The worse company I have ever used
The worse company I have ever used, told to send a personal message to them which on paper looks like they care, which is untrue. Even after doing this and giving all the facts of how they ripped me off after several weeks got told I had never been a customer or unable to find anything in my name, this is absolute lies. Do not believe they ever looked into it, and I have proof I was a customer with a genuine grievance. Will never use such a dishonest firm again. Before I get the normal send us a personal message, No I will not as does no good in doing so, stick your firm where the sun doesn't shine.
I believed everything was going well
I believed everything was going well - my eye test, my subsequent dealing with my 'handler' & then the cash payment of £145 with the comment that yr spectacles will be ready 13th July, Why so long? If you go into yr Dubai office - they will say 'come back tomorrow afternoon' Why do we have to wait 2 weeks? Anyway - my spectacles were not available, and now I am told to wait another 7 days! Shoddy service I say (D. Membery, Customer Number 161071) You've had my money - where are my glasses?
