Brake Failure After Faulty Repair – No Accountability
Extremely disappointing experience with Mercedes-Benz customer service
I experienced a serious safety issue after a repair at an official Mercedes-Benz partner workshop (C. Santos VP – Alfragide, Portugal).
My brake fluid reservoir was replaced during a service in August 2024, supposedly to fix a warning sound when braking. Just a few days later, my brakes failed completely during a trip through France – caused by leaking brake fluid.
Back in Germany, another certified Mercedes workshop told me the problem had nothing to do with the reservoir, and the original issue had likely been caused by unrelated sensor errors. The reservoir was replaced unnecessarily and – even worse – installed incorrectly, leading to a complete loss of braking power.
I reported this dangerous incident to Mercedes customer service right away. But what happened next was just as shocking: I received no answer for several months. Emails were ignored unless I followed up multiple times, and I finally got a generic reply after nearly 10 months – stating that they saw no reason to assist because I had "refused recommended repairs".
Not only is that claim inaccurate (I was explicitly told the car was safe to drive), but it also ignores the core issue: a faulty repair caused a severe safety risk, and Mercedes refuses to take any responsibility.
For a brand that calls itself premium, this is simply unacceptable. It’s not just about the money – it’s about trust, and I’ve completely lost mine.
