ORIZZONTE SISTEMI NAVALI S.p.A., a joint venture between FINCANTIERI and #Leonardo, has signed a contract with OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) with a total value of approximately €3.7 billion, of which approximately €1.3 billion is in options, for the development, production, logistic studies and Initial In Service Support (ISS) of two new-generation DDX destroyers for the Italian Navy (Marina Militare Italiana). The signing marks the official launch of one of the most significant programmes for the future of Italy’s naval defence capabilities and introduces a new generation of units designed to operate in maritime scenarios characterised by increasing complexity, rapid technological evolution and ever-greater integration across the different operational domains. The DDX programme is set to redefine the Italian Navy’s capability profile in the field of air and missile defence through a significant generational leap involving both the naval platform – designed and developed by Fincantieri as physical system integrator, together with its increasingly advanced digitalisation – and the combat system, designed and developed by Leonardo. Lorenzo Mariani, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Leonardo, stated: "Taking part in this programme – which is set to establish new standards in naval defence capabilities – confirms the Italian Navy’s confidence in Leonardo’s technologies, which are capable of meeting the need to operate in an integrated manner across different domains and in complex scenarios. Today more than ever, it is essential to rely on multi-domain systems. Leonardo’s continuous investments in this direction have enabled the development of digital and system architectures that integrate capabilities designed to ensure effective assessment of scenarios and speed in decision-making processes throughout the entire chain of command. With these two new-generation units, the Armed Force will be able to rely on naval platforms offering advanced operational performance and capable of addressing a broad spectrum of threats. In occasione dell’"Esercito 1659 Drone Challenge", Lorenzo Mariani, Amministratore Delegato e Direttore Generale di #Leonardo, ha partecipato al talk ANSA "I Droni e lo Sport: tra innovazione e tecnologia", al quale sono intervenuti anche il Generale di Corpo d’Armata Carmine Masiello, Capo di Stato Maggiore dell’Esercito Italiano - Italian Army e Luca Andreoli, Amministratore Delegato di Difesa Servizi.   L’iniziativa, nata dalla sinergia tra il Ministero della Difesa, Difesa Servizi S.p.A., ed Esercito Italiano, patrocinata dalla Regione Lazio e da Roma Capitale, e realizzata in stretta collaborazione con la FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) e l'Aero Club d’Italia (AeCI), ha portato a Roma la prima competizione sportiva dedicata ai migliori piloti civili e militari di droni First Person View (FPV).   Nel corso del confronto, Lorenzo Mariani ha individuato nella cooperazione industriale una condizione necessaria per costruire una concreta difesa europea. Per superare la frammentazione, ha sottolineato la necessità di una forte iniziativa politica, di requisiti militari comuni e di strategie industriali di lungo periodo, richiamando anche il ruolo di strumenti come SAFE, che possono favorire la collaborazione e il cross procurement tra paesi europei.   Guardando all’evoluzione delle capacità di difesa e al ruolo crescente dei #droni, Lorenzo Mariani ha inoltre evidenziato: "bisogna tener conto anche delle piattaforme, che però siano diverse dal passato: devono essere protette dai droni, ma che li utilizzino e che siano connesse in rete e a livello satellitare, cose che qualche anno fa si sapevano ma non venivano considerate estremamente necessarie come lo sono oggi".   Per approfondire: https://lnkd.in/ehe9JrA6

#Leonardo has been recognized and awarded the “Rising IR Program” in the Large Caps category in Italy, according to the 2026 Extel Survey, one of the most widely recognized benchmarks in the industry. The award recognizes the company that, compared with the previous edition, recorded the most significant improvement in the Extel rankings. Compared with 2025, Leonardo’s Investor Relations program received higher ratings in the Extel Survey, mainly thanks to improvement in the clarity and transparency of financial communication, quality of events and preparedness of the IR team, and consistency and depth of financial disclosure. The Survey, therefore, highlighted a clear improvement, as perceived by the financial community, in the quality and effectiveness of Leonardo’s Investor Relations activities over the past year. We were pleased to welcome Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dilan Yesilgöz - Zegerius to #Leonardo’s headquarters for a discussion on the evolving security landscape and the role of technology and international cooperation in addressing today’s challenges. The meeting provided an opportunity to share Leonardo’s strategic vision and explore developments across key technological domains, from Space and Cyber to uncrewed systems, advanced electronics and the Leonardo Hypercomputing Continuum, in addition to MBDA’s product portfolio. The discussion also focused on Air and Missile Defence, as well as on the importance of international programmes and industrial partnerships in strengthening European and NATO capabilities. With a long-standing history of cooperation in the aerospace and defence sector, including through programmes such as NHIndustries’ NH90 and Lockheed Martin’s F-35, the visit reaffirmed the importance of dialogue between governments and industry, and of increasingly close cooperation among European partners to develop interoperable capabilities, strengthen technological resilience and respond effectively to emerging security requirements.
