The first phase of DPSN – Digitalizzazione Produzione Spazio Nerviano (Nerviano Space Production Digitalisation) has been completed, marking an important milestone in the strategic programme through which #LeonardoSpace is transforming production processes at the Leonardo Nerviano site, near Milan, Italy, into a more connected, integrated and data-driven ecosystem. The initiative was launched to support growing production volumes while strengthening the management and competitiveness across the lines dedicated to the manufacture of electronic boards, atomic clocks and, looking ahead, solar panels for the Space sector. To mark this achievement, Massimo C Comparini, Managing Director of Leonardo Space, highlighted the strategic role of digital transformation: “Digital infrastructure is fundamental for the factories of today and tomorrow. Data lakes and AI help us know better exactly what we produce and how we produce it, with the goal of achieving absolute quality. Digitally connecting our factories is also essential to developing a new level of federated manufacturing capability. With our Space Factories, we are passionately building the future every day.”

At the World Satellite Business Week, Massimo C Comparini, Managing Director of #LeonardoSpace, joined the discussion on how Europe can turn its technological strengths into a competitive and sustainable Space economy. From the integration of Space and digital technologies to low-latency, multi-sensor Earth Observation capabilities, Leonardo is working to deliver increasingly responsive solutions for institutional, commercial and defence users. Scaling up, however, means more than technology. It means investing in R&D and industrial capacity, strengthening connections across the European value chain, and bringing innovation to global markets and final users. Four days in Paris, bringing together the global Space community to discuss how the sector is evolving — from Connectivity and Earth Observation to defence and security. At World Space Business Week and the Space Defense & Security Summit (Novaspace Summits), #LeonardoSpace, together with Telespazio and e-GEOS, contributed to the debate on some of the key elements shaping the future of Space. 🔹 Massimo C Comparini, Managing Director of #LeonardoSpace, focused on what Europe needs to turn its technological strengths into an always more competitive and sustainable Space economy: greater scale, continued investment in R&D and industrial capacity, stronger integration across the European value chain, and the capacity to bring innovation to global markets. New constellations, operators and customers are reshaping the market, while sovereignty, interoperability and the ability to evolve services rapidly are becoming increasingly important — particularly for critical infrastructures and areas where satellite connectivity can make a tangible difference. 🔹 At the Space Defense & Security Summit, Marco Brancati, SVP Technology and Innovation Governance at Leonardo Space, highlighted the growing role of Space within the multidomain environment. Earth Observation, connectivity and Space Domain Awareness are becoming increasingly interconnected, making technologies such as onboard processing, intersatellite links and multi-mission ground segments — together with interoperability by design — key enablers for future systems. 🔹 C. Lerario, CEO of e-GEOS, brought an Earth Observation data perspective to the discussion, highlighting how SAR is becoming a primary source of information, providing continuous observations independently of daylight and weather conditions. The integration of SAR and optical imagery enables a more comprehensive understanding of events, while customer demand is increasingly shifting towards information, analytics and operational services rather than raw data and complex processing chains. #WSBW26 #SDSS26

Leonardo has been awarded by the European Space Agency - ESA a fully funded contract to define the architecture of the future EU Earth Observation Governmental Service (#EOGS), a key capability designed to harness space data in support of Europe’s autonomous decision-making in the fields of security and defence. The contract is one of the two parallel architectural studies funded by the European Commission and signed with #ESA under the Financial Framework Partnership Agreement (FFPA). The project will propose architectural options to support the future implementation of the EOGS. The European Resilience from Space for Earth Observation (ERS-EO) activities are parallel preparatory activities for EOGS, including the preparation of relevant capabilities and their potential federation with national and European dual-use Earth Observation assets. Led by #Leonardo, the study will capitalise the competences, technologies and solutions from Telespazio, Thales Alenia Space, e-GEOS and a qualified network of European partners, and will define a sovereign, resilient and federated end-to-end #EarthObservation architecture, covering the entire value chain: space systems and sensors, ground infrastructure, data processing and services. 🆕 e-GEOS, part of Leonardo Space, and iQPS, Inc. (Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space, Inc.) are collaborating to develop new Geospatial Intelligence solutions for institutions, governments and businesses, with applications ranging from emergency management to mining and infrastructure monitoring. 🛰️ At the heart of the collaboration is the integration of data from the QPS-SAR constellation operated by iQPS with data from the COSMO-SkyMed constellation of the Italian Space Agency (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana) and the Italian Ministry of Defence (Ministero della Difesa), for which e-GEOS is the exclusive commercial distributor. 🎤 C. Ecosmic and Leonardo sign Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen partnership on space security. Ecosmic, the European space intelligence company specialising in the protection and defence of space assets, and Leonardo, a leading global aerospace, defence, and security player, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand their partnership on space security. The signing builds upon a contract already in execution, through which Ecosmic contributes its data processing and analysis capabilities as part of Leonardo’s broader space awareness activities. The MoU brings a longer-term perspective to this relationship, establishing a multi-year framework to evaluate further opportunities for cooperation. This partnership brings together Ecosmic’s technical expertise in deriving valuable space intelligence from all kinds of data and Leonardo’s space infrastructure and extensive experience in aerospace, defence and security. Through the MoU, the companies intend to explore how their complementary capabilities can address evolving awareness needs in the space sector. The ESA's Earth Explorer #FLEX and #Copernicus #Sentinel-3C satellites have been successfully launched! The two European Space Agency - ESA missions will enable more precise monitoring of vegetation health, sea and land surface temperatures, atmospheric composition and wildfire activity. The data they provide will be essential for studying the effects of climate change, protecting ecosystems, improving ocean and weather forecasting, and supporting land management and agricultural activities. For the FLEX satellite, developed by the Thales Alenia Space, Leonardo designed and built #FLORIS (Fluorescence Imaging Spectrometer), which will measure the faint fluorescence emitted by plants during photosynthesis, providing new information on vegetation health and environmental stress. The data collected will offer new insights for climate research, ecosystem protection and the sustainable management of natural resources, with practical applications also in agriculture. #Leonardo also developed the #SLSTR (Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer) for Copernicus Sentinel-3C. From an altitude of around 800 kilometres, the radiometer will measure sea and land surface temperatures with an accuracy of up to one tenth of a degree by analysing radiation emitted by the Earth across different bands of the infrared spectrum. Telespazio also played a key role in supporting the mission from launch through in-orbit operations. Telespazio Germany led mission control and operations for both satellites, from Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) to daily in-orbit management, while Telespazio France supported launch campaign preparations and countdown operations alongside the COEL (Launch Complex Operations Manager). Earth observation is a key domain in which we are investing significantly, for example through the development and construction of our proprietary constellation, with the aim of increasingly transforming technological innovation in space into data and services that support our understanding and protection of the planet and our security."

 We had the honour of welcoming a Vietnamese delegation headed by the Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Italy, H.E. Nguyen Phuong Anh and the Defence Attaché Senior Colonel Doan Ngoc Nguyen, to Telespazio’s Fucino Space Centre, one of the world’s leading satellite operations centres and a key hub for satellite in-orbit control, space mission operations, telecommunications, television and multimedia services.   The Ambassador was received by Massimo C Comparini, Managing Director of #LeonardoSpace, together with representatives from Leonardo, Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space Italy.   As a tangible expression of the #Leonardo Group’s capabilities and expertise in Space, the Fucino Space Centre provided the setting to reaffirm Leonardo’s commitment to advancing innovation and delivering Space solutions worldwide.   The visit offered an opportunity to discuss the increasingly strategic role of Space in enabling innovation, connectivity, security, defence and economic development, while following up the areas of cooperation between the two countries to create value for institutions, citizens and future generations by using advanced Space technologies and technical cooperation.
