With landlines being discontinued I decided to upgrade to a VOIP service with Voipfone.
I bought a Gradwell adapter and carried on using my old phone - works really well.
Had to contact customer support a few times with minor issues and they generally go above and beyond.
When you can't trust companies on the web
Went to register for the 'free trial' but then asked them about autorenewal and was told that yes, they had autorenewal. Tried to then check if it was easy to cancel auto renewal (many companies are very devious about this) and found that their online help system was useless. i.e., I could find no information on cancelling the trial. The online chat Support system was of no use and was very tedious communicate to and what would they say anyway that would make me feel secure about their business? but by then I was totally put-off the whole company - I had to ask about the autorenewal, it was not forthcoming in any of the blurb during sign-up. nb: check out their T&C which state that as a customer, you would have to pay for any legal action brought against the company - not a nice way to do business with the customer! Fed-up with these companies who may/may not be legit, you simply can't tell until it's too late! They say "You can try our service for FREE - without risk or commitment." but autorenewal IS a commitment! Pity, as I'd have liked the service perhaps but no-way could I trust them.

I had a very unpleasant experience with Voipfone, Their PAYG call recording system uses a code that you enter on the keypad, it doesn't work and they told me "Oh you have to press it the right way!". Imagine you need to record an important call and they tell you that when it doesn't work!. Their customer service is awful, multiple agents giving you different answers. I only gave two stars because the calls were decent quality. Avoid!
Fabulous telephone company
What a fabulous company had by house phone with them for many years now and never had any problems plus when you need help you can phone them and get though no automated system which is fantastic in is self .

If only this country was run like this company, we would all be saved! Brilliant service. Ported my landline number. Set up my voip phone remotely by a secure connection via my home computer. Can't thank them or recommend them enough. Spot on!
Great company to deal with
Great company to deal with. Very helpful and knowledgeable Live Chat real people (thank you Daniel). UK company. Pay as you go type of system, I think, with no tied-in-contract. First 15 minutes free to see how it works. So far, very happy.
Excellent Service & Friendly…
I spoke to someone called Dan on Friday who was excellent - helped me get set up fully with a new process for our phones and understands that unless you're on this website night and day, it's a bit like rocket science. I always find the technical help excellent and friendly.
VOIPFONE…
After conversation with VOIPFONE customer service agent Andrea Nicholls yesterday, I had to research and find a means of communicating the level of her excellence.
I have owned and controlled a number of call centres. I have set up call centres and have employed many call centre staff.
Andrea was patient, extremely well versed in the product, was courteous and polite. Not once did she interrupt and she breathed confidence. She answered every silly question I posed and finished with 2 contracts from me. One Residential and One Business.
If I was still in the call centre world I would be head hunting this young woman. As it is I want to say she is a natural and it would be my recommendation that she be made a trainer.
I have read an earlier review and in my opinion it is from someone who is complaining for the sake of complaining. Read the words then call Voipfone and judge for yourself.
Pain to set up & pricing issues, otherwise reliable
I joined this company due to many positive reviews. I remember reading their welcome page where they talked about hidden costs from other providers and how they're straight forward, no hidden extras, that sort of thing. I soon found out their advertised prices didn't include VAT, so that's the first red flag as they know full well most people expect to see the full cost.
Setting it up was terrible. It was way too complicated, even for me who's very tech and computer savvy. After several attempts to get it working they asked me to install Teamviewer (or similar software) so they could set things up remotely. Why on Earth would they want to take over my PC to do that rather than doing in via their own interface in the office? If the company wasn't so well thought of by others at the time, I would have assumed they were a scam company and would have walked away.
The other day, I noticed they'd introduced residential plans which cost £6 less per month for the same unlimited plan I had. After investigating it appeared I was on their business plan. I wrote to support who told me they introduced residential plans after I signed up (no idea when) and didn't let customers know. So I had no idea I could get it cheaper as a residential customer. They refuse to refund what I've overpaid, which as they didn't email all users to offer the option to change, I feel is unethical.
I'll give 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 as the service has always worked well after the pain of setting it up, and the recent support guy (Luke) has been friendly and helpful, despite the outcome.

Great alternative to landlines
I've been using Voipfone now for a couple of months having switched from a landline and broadband to full fibre and my current supplier didn't offer a VOIP option for the phone.
Setting up the account was nice and simple and getting the software working on both a laptop and mobile (you can only use one at a time though) has been simple and straightforward.
Migrating my landline number again was easy, the only issue I had was submitting the move request too early, but I was advised of this by Voipfone and they resubmitted the request the next day.
Using the system is really easy, I tend to just use the Zoiper softphone app on my laptop. I've enabled working hours so calls outside these times go to voicemail, and those are emailed through.
Great functionality, really good value at £12 a month including minutes and can't fault the service.

CS Misguiding and Missing common sense
Asked for a refund after being a customer for months.
I was billed on a 25th and asked for refund as i was not using the service much. Contacted CS for refund and I was advised to follow a link to cancel the account thinking i will get my refund only to find no refund and also account deleted.
Is the customer service missing common sense of what was asked? Could have advised to carry till the end of the month and then cancel. Now no refund and no service.
Update: Changing 1 star to 3. CS got in touch and apologised for the mistake and refunded. Thanks to Trust Pilot for this powerful platform.
Voipfone is a clear winner over Microsoft
With Skype closing down, I had two VoIP-based landline numbers I needed to move. I initially transferred the numbers to Microsoft Teams, which ended up being an absolute disaster. After more than two months of getting nowhere with Microsoft, I ported my numbers out to Voipfone in the hope of a better experience - and I wasn't disappointed.
Porting the numbers was very easy and fast. The Voipfone interface is clear and easy to understand and use. The pricing was considerably cheaper and more transparent (compared to Microsoft), and the Voipfone customer service team resolved the couple of support requests I had very quickly.

Outstanding customer service
Opening an account and arranging for my number to be ported in was very straightforward. Once active, I needed a lot of help to get my new DECT phone up and running. Alex was so helpful and patient and made sure that everything was working as it should, first via Chat and then with a follow up phone call. The call quality over Voip seems really good and the flexibility of no contract is another big plus. Overall I'm really impressed in all aspects.

I recently moved to voipfone following a wholly unsatisfacory experience with my former provider that threatened to leave me without voice and broadband services for a number of days.
