Awful service to loyal customers

Awful service to loyal customers
Since being taken over by Sykes service has plummeted. Had been booking same property in Cornwall for many years; when we were trying to rebook told that it was no longer on their books as it was being sold. Paid a big deposit on an another of their properties only to then find out quickly that our preferred property was on a rental through another nearby agency. Absolutely no give on refund ( and we're talking over 6 months before the holiday). Loyal customers for 30 years! Shoddy responses to our issues and often not responding when promised. What used to be a local agency who knew everything about the local area is now controlled by an agency 200 miles away who have little local knowledge. Fortunately we have found other agents in the local area who are much more service orientated and are staffed by locals who have a much better knowledge I will not be booking through Sykes ever again. Awful. Avoid at all costs

Won't Book Again

Stayed for a week at chantry lodge cornwall...cream sofa covered in stains and dog hairs and absolutely stank of that wet dog smell...so first day of my holiday was hoovering up and had to buy air freshener which didn't get rid of smell completely....air vents think with dust and kitchen light covered in dust and blinds too....only decent thing was hot tub was clean and we enjoyed that.....the manager text me a couple of days into our holiday and asked if previous occupants had left clothes in bedroom.....which they hadn't......i replied and complained to manager and all I got was a sorry and he wasn't happy with the cleaning company he had used and will give them feedback.....I wouldn't book again with this company......Gayle Ratcliffe

The bluebell in York.
I’m writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with my recent stay at The Bluebell for my 60th birthday celebration. I had carefully selected your venue as it seemed perfect for hosting my 33 guests. From the moment I booked, everything appeared to be well-organized, and I even paid extra for the privilege of an early arrival and late check-out. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected, and it caused significant stress during an event that should have been a joyous occasion.

Upon arrival, we found the property cold, with no way to turn on the heaters. Despite making numerous calls and sending several texts, it took far too long to resolve this basic issue. Additionally, the entire place was in desperate need of a deep clean. We were shocked to find that cleaning supplies were unavailable, forcing us to go out and purchase our own mops and products to clean the property ourselves.

Some of the rooms were in unacceptable condition:

Toilets had been used and not flushed.
Floors were dirty, and cobwebs were all over the walls.
The outside bin area was littered with black bags, which I refused to clean up.
Several rooms had stained bedding, including one with a blood stain that we had to change ourselves.
Worse, from rooms 1 to 4, none of the electrical sockets worked, and despite numerous attempts to contact you, this was never resolved. Room 12 had stained bedding with some sort of black ink. It’s unbelievable that your housekeeper admitted to knowing about the stained sheets but put them on the beds regardless.

The condition of the property was unacceptable and created a significant amount of stress. I did not receive the value I expected for the money I spent. My guests, while understanding, were understandably disturbed by the poor conditions, and this situation nearly ruined an event I had spent a year planning.

Your housekeeper excused her inaction by saying she was on holiday, and your lack of response was equally frustrating. We have videos and photos documenting all the issues mentioned, and I am appalled that such basic standards of cleanliness and hospitality were not met.

I expect a formal response and a refund offer, given the substandard experience and inconvenience caused. This stay was unacceptable, and I will not be booking with you again.

APPALLING, AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Appalling customer service.
My partner had a heart attack and was on life support , this happened 2 weeks before our planned holiday. After sending numerous emails , what’s apps and phone calls, not one of the customer service team responded.
I wasn’t after a refund but a possible change of dates, which if you try to do through the app, is actually impossible. No compassion whatsoever. Avoid at all costs. We lost the whole holiday !
They do not deserve even 1 star !!!!

Sykes Cottages - no humanity or compassion

I booked a cottage with Sykes Cottages. Sadly my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 40 and we have 3 young children. I had to cancel my booking 5 weeks in advance of our stay and couldn't rebook another date, not knowing the treatment planned. Despite explaining this to Sykes Cottages they refused to refund the £300 deposit made. This made a very sad time even more difficult. I hope that in future cases Sykes Cottages can show more humanity, understanding and compassion.

Never Answer The Phones

They are awful. Had my holiday cancelled 9 days before we were going away. Sent some different locations said reply to a non reply email address. I waited for one and half hours on the phone. I decided to take a refund. Awful customer service, they just don't care. I'll never book with them again

Not the Price I looked at …

I found a holiday let with another company and on paying a part of the cost I found I was paying Skye cottages. The rest was to paid 2weeks from my first payment ,my son paid the next bit but it was substantial more then I thought when I booked in fact it was overall £166 more. That is just over £40.25 more A NIGHT !!! I will never book with this company again. I'm nearly 68 yrs and everything practically has to be done online and it is a complex business. There is very little human contact , trying to talk to a human being is very rare in these modern times .....really sad and so sad for future generations! How could they improve ? Have a good trained customer service team and make them readily and easily contactable, be honest and reliable and protective when it comes to problems

Nobody available if you hit a problem…

Nobody available if you hit a problem during your stay. Telephone number automated and terrible. Text service is 48 hour response. Not great in general and then they issue a survey and the link doesn't work!! Properties all have amazing reviews which seems to be highly vented.

Would prefer to give no star

Would prefer to give no star. This company advertised a home that had a games room, pool table etc so we rented and paid over £1700 for 4 nights to get there an not have any games room or pool table, this was the main criteria of our holiday search. The customer team when I raised concerns sent emails that I interpret as argumentive. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY AS YOU MAY NOT GET WHAT YOU BOOKED. AWFUL company in my opinion, we wanted games room and searched specific for this . Offerd pennies from them as compensation. Will never use this company again.

Safety concerns - 9 Pilgrims Way, Roch

The inside of the property is lovely & has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The back of the house is impressive, but the front is a different story. It's like looking out on a busy street where you live, overlooked by neighbours. One caused us a huge problem. I have written evidence from the owners, that they knew was a prior safety issue.

I don't know whether the property is aimed at children or adults. If children, the glass cabinets and open, toddler-height drinking glass cupboard, need to be removed urgently - as do the lighters, candles and wax melt burners. If it is adults, please correct your advert, because the beds are barely double. & in the room with the single bed, it’s a ¾ adult bed at best. There are 3 bedrooms, but you can't reasonably sleep 2 adults in each.

The issue with this property is the outside space & neighbouring properties. On the first morning of our holiday, a neighbour’s trampoline landed on top of our cars, parked on the driveway. It was 6.30am & we had to physically secure the trampoline! This incident caused over £2000 worth of damage to 2 cars, including a completely smashed windscreen on one.

I have written confirmation from the owners, they knew this had happened twice before. Sykes confirmed they were never notified of this (on a recorded call). The property needs a warning about high winds & potential safety issues, for all current guests who are booked in & future ones.

We spent the first five days of our holiday trying to fix damaged cars. As a family we were stressed, upset, anxious and worried about the out-of-pocket costs. The owners & Sykes were no help whatsoever & offered for us to leave the property (whilst they were aware we still had a smashed windscreen on one car & couldn't safely drive) for a partial refund, of the days we wouldn't be staying! This only added more stress & upset to our family, including my four-year-old child. & caused us to be worried about the threat of being thrown out. When we did nothing wrong, but raise genuine concerns.

It's fair to say we won't be staying at this property ever again, due to a genuine concern for safety on the driveway. And, because the booking agent clearly doesn't conduct safety checks, we will never book with Sykes or any of their affiliated companies again.

Booked cottage in Bamburgh

Booked cottage in Bamburgh , 7weeks before we were due to go Skyescottages cancelled the booking , the alternative they offered was more expensive and wanted me to pay the difference for their incompetent service . I requested a refund of which I am still waiting . Give the booking company a wide bearth.

I found this company to be very UNFAIR & DISHONEST!

I found this company to be very unfair and it's treatment towards it's customers to be unjust. I booked a cottage for 1 week this Easter in Cornwall. I paid a deposit of £304 in February and the balance was to be taken directly out of my bank account 2 weeks later. My bank had rejected the transaction. I received an email on Friday (2 days ago) to say payment needed to be made by 2pm that day to avoid cancellation. I only saw the email the following day (yesterday) and rang Skyes immediately to pay the balance. I was told by a member of their staff that it was too late to pay the balance and that the booking had been cancelled and that someone had now booked the cottage.

Understandably I was very disappointed that the cottage was now not available but I accepted that I was late in paying the balance. When I asked if I could book another cottage using the deposit of £304 that I had already paid, I was told no because I had now lost my deposit also!!!

How can this be legal and just? The cottage(Sanctuary Bay, Cabris Bay) was now rebooked by another customer so Skyes Cottages didn't lose any money but yet they thought it fair to keep my deposit of £304. Why did they not let me use the deposit towards another of their cottages? They expected me to pay another deposit towards a new booking.!!

Where did my £304 deposit go, considering THEY cancelled my booking and rented the cottage to someone else?

I would not advise using Skyes Cottages to other customers and feel that people need to be aware that this company can cancel your booking and re-rent it to someone else, while making a profit on taking your deposit!!

Disgusting and dishonest service.

Booked a £2000 cottage

Booked a £2000 cottage, for one week.

No confirmation whatsoever of the booking. Then numerous emails asking for resetting of my password. WHAT password??! I've only JUST tried to make a booking. And still no confirmation of the holiday booking. Useless people, useless website. Spend your money elsewhere.

Skyescottages robbed us. We paid for our holiday in full then cancelled within two hours. No refund!!
There was no warning of no refund when we cancelled just when we ask where it was , a rude man hangs up on my wife. do not trust This Company!!!

Ignore the customer is our motto …

Through no fault of our own ( issue with Brigg cottage , The Bay, Filey) we had to accept a full refund ( wow you say !) BUT leave the cottage immediately! 6.00pm , family of 5 including 83yr old … get out tonight!. Took the refund as we had to leave the cottage but felt a apology was due .. I challenge you to get your complaint reviewed by ANYONE in authority… won’t tell you ceo name or email address, of get a member of higher management to call/email you .. I believe Graham Donoghue is that ceo … ignores email, executive dept ignores emails … IF YOU HAVE A COMPLAINT WITH YOUR COTTAGE YES YOU MIGHT GET A FULL REFUND BUT DONT EXPECT ANY KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM MANAGEMENT AT SYKES COTTAGES ….
