Long wait time over the phone (right now, 21 minutes waiting over the phone and counting). It does not matter if you contact RBC using the online banking phones, credit card phones, everything is the same: bad customer service.
Sometimes RBC does not resolve the issues.
Unhelpful automated systems/chatbots.
Rigid branch staff.

I am extremely disappointed with RBC’s handling of my iPad promotional offer.
I successfully completed the direct deposit and Freedom Mobile bill payment requirements. An RBC advisor specifically advised me that setting up automatic Virtual Visa Debit payments through the Freedom Mobile app would qualify for the offer. I trusted this advice and followed the instructions accordingly. However, after completing the requirements, RBC informed me that this payment method was not eligible and instead asked me to set up pre-authorized payments. As a result, I paid approximately $17 per month for three months, totalling $51, based on the original advice. Despite contacting RBC advisors multiple times, I have received no satisfactory resolution. The promotional deadline has now passed, and I feel completely misled and taken advantage of.

Extremely Disappointing Customer…
Extremely Disappointing Customer Service – RBC
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with the Royal Bank of Canada. For a financial institution of this size and reputation, I expected a much higher standard of customer service, accountability, and professionalism.
Unfortunately, my experience has been frustrating. Instead of taking ownership of customer concerns and making a genuine effort to resolve problems, RBC seems more focused on following internal procedures than actually helping its customers.
Customers trust banks with their hard-earned money, and that trust should come with responsibility, transparency, and proper support when issues arise.
RBC needs to seriously reconsider how it treats its customers. Having a well-known name and being one of Canada's largest banks means very little if customers cannot rely on the institution when they need help.
Based on my experience, I would seriously reconsider doing business with RBC and would not recommend it to others.
Good luck getting customer service from RBC.
I'm a low income senior. I fell prey to a food delivery service with ZERO customer service. After I cancelled my subscription they acknowledged my cancelation then proceeded to remove an additional $97 from my account. I complained. Got a letter of apology from the company with the assurance my $ would come back in 3-5 days. You can guess the rest. The $ was authorized and it's MY BANK WITHHOLDING THE FUNDS.Hours of struggling with an agent whose first language is NOT English I was told the money would be returned in 24 hours or less. The struggle to comprehend a non English speaking off shore customer service agent stops now. Nope. STILL NOTHING. I REFUSED TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS FROM A BANK I have patronized for years. I'm done. If and when they finally return my money I plan to close my RBC account permanently. In addition to all this Hassle my 3 digit secret banking code which I always use and I've Never forgotten was 'wrong'. ???!
Rbc's new two-step verification sucks
Rbc's new two-step verification sucks. Just trying to make a simple etransfer and it wants me to scan a QR code. This is a big problem when you have a flip phone. Their solution was to keep transfers under $1,000 at a time. My BMO account allows me to transfer $25,000 at a time without all the BS. I am closing my accounts at RBC, I'm not buying a new phone with all the fancy gadgets just to be able to make an etransfer. I've had this account for 35yr. Very disappointed with RBC
Was with the Royal for over 20 years
Was with the Royal for over 20 years. No actual issues until my wife passed away. At that point, they swooped in like vultures and locked down her account, not allowing me even to pay the funeral home. The rep I worked with wouldn't even take my calls and actually blocked my number, even though I was civil and professional throughout my dealings with him. The review summary here on Trustpilot sums up my experiences very well.
Dear RBC Customer Service Team,
Dear RBC Customer Service Team,
I am writing to express my disappointment with the customer service I received when I called regarding an issue with my RBC Visa card.
I was asked to wait for approximately an hour before my call was answered. When I finally spoke with a representative, they asked me several questions. I misunderstood one of the questions, and instead of explaining it again politely, the representative raised their voice and told me to listen carefully to the question.
I found this behaviour extremely rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. As a customer, I expect to be treated with patience and respect, especially when I am calling for help with a banking issue. Misunderstanding a question can happen, and I believe the representative should have clarified the question rather than speaking to me in that manner.
In the end, I was simply told to visit an RBC branch to resolve the issue. After waiting so long and experiencing such poor customer service, I was very disappointed with the way my concern was handled.
I would appreciate it if RBC would review this interaction and address the matter appropriately. I hope customers can receive more respectful and professional service in the future.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I cant seem to get a real person on the phone to answer questions, my branch is severely understaffed. Im over it. finally ready to change banks after 20 years because they are so greedy and cant seem to prioritize customer experience.
there is no any customer service…
There is no any customer service provided by RBC last 6 years ! , if you speak to somebody from RBC you can’t understand because the Indian accent is extremely strong, Customer service person should speak very well English or French , there is no way you can complain or do any conversation on baking on line it gets you to some help after to some chat that is never ready to talk and after you wait they disconnect you from banking on line so basically no existing customer service . When I called today from my traveling in MX i was on line 1 hour 45 minutes after they asking questions for security not sure for them or me I answered all , they asked question like date of set up my credit payment that I have set up automatically and many question and after they told me i was not declassified by the system because my security answers were not enough good , i asked to talk to manager they told me i am not allowed to talk to anyone from RBC . can you explain why there is no customer service provided by RBC by phone or on line why I can’t complain about service , why they not allowed me over 30 years user of the bank with 3 times mortgages , line of credit user and etc to talk to RBC personal because of some so call security question was not enough . RBC is the worst bank in Canada and will start my transfer of my banking to other bank Regards
Went into a main branch in Lethbridge
Went into a main branch in Lethbridge, Alberta, and while 4 tellers were working, well, I shouldn't say working, they were pretending to be working on their computers. One person was being helped; not a single other person in the entire bank. I waited probably 3 minutes before anything happened, and that was 2 of the tellers left and went on coffee break. I stood there for another minute or 2, and one of the two who were left asked if he could help me. I showed him a bank draft and a billing statement. Now, being a bank teller, you would think this person would have experience in these types of transactions. I would ask anyone reading: What do you think I was trying to do? He asked if I wanted to make a deposit???? I say, what? A deposit? NO, it's a bank draft to pay a large bill. Customer service and incompetence at it's worst.
Incompetent staff
Incompetent staff. Absolutely clueless. Couldn’t print ONE form as requested from THEIR WEBSITE. Waste of time.
Phone app is pathetic
Phone app is pathetic. Not user friendly at all like TD or CIBC. System update never also on time. If you will receive an e-transfer and send an e-transfer at the same day they charge overdraft interest. Because bank system update sending amount first instead of receiving amount. I told them I don’t have any overdraft protection but they don’t listen. The system needs correction and updation. I am not happy with all this.
The telephone customer service is…
The telephone customer service is terrible. You have to stay on the line for hours just to ask one question.
AI Is not helpful!
AI Is not helpful!! Tried to book an appointment and the AI told me to use the app. I needed to book an appointment for my grandmother and the AI just repeatedly ignored us and told us to use the app. The app is not convenient for us. My grandmother doesn’t know how to use the app and I don’t have access to it on account of not being a client of RBC. The app is NOT convenient and the AI doesn’t help! Now we Can’t book a simple appointment for god sake! Bring back people we can talk to because this is ridiculous.
WARNING: 4 MONTHS OF DELAY HOLDING MY SON'S EDUCATION MONEY HOSTAGE
WARNING: Avoid RBC esp Langley Branch - 4 Months of Delays Holding My Son’s RESP Money Hostage (Worst Banking Experience)
Overall Rating: 1 / 5 Stars
I am writing this review to strongly warn others against banking with RBC. I never chose RBC in the first place—my account was automatically transferred here when RBC acquired HSBC, where I had been a client since 2014. Since the transition, it has been the absolute worst banking experience.
Here is what happened with my son’s badly needed Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) money:
Unfulfilled Timelines: Four months ago, my husband and I went to our local branch to process a complete transfer of our son’s RESP money from RBC Dominion Securities to the branch, assisted by Jasmeet Kaur and Caleb Milke. We were explicitly told the entire process would take 6 weeks.
Conflicting Information & Endless Delays:
At Week 7 and Week 8, I followed up because the funds had still not arrived.
I contacted RBC Dominion Securities directly, and they assured me the money had already been transferred to the branch and asked me to wait two more weeks.
Jasneet KAUR and Caleb MILKE of Langley , BC RBC branch stopped responding to my multiple emails on the status of my son's EDUCATION MONEY on the 7th week until now.
After waiting two more weeks, I was told the branch did not have the money after all.
Refusal & Total Lack of Accountability: When I requested a direct withdrawal from RBC Dominion Securities since the branch transfer was stalled, Dominion Securities claimed they could not process it. Neither the branch staff nor Dominion Securities could give me a straight answer on where my son’s education money was or what was causing the four-month delay.
Escalation to the Ombudsman: Because neither side took accountability and my son urgently needed his education funds, I have been forced to report RBC to the Banking Ombudsman to get our money released.
The complete lack of communication, internal disorganization between RBC Dominion Securities and the local branch, and failure to release essential educational funds is unacceptable. Save yourself the stress and do not bank with RBC.
Never loan
Horrible bank, I asked for a small loan, thwy told me theyd get it by the end of the week which was my deadline for the payment i need to make, and now after being promised on a deadline , the bank is saying that my loan wont come until next week. Never ever use this bank as they cant come through with their promises and have horrible customer service. The person whos in charge of processing my loan just gave up on call and said his shift is ending and just hung up, so unprofessional.
VERY POOR!!!
VERY POOR!!!! There was a unathourized transaction made to my account and called them ending transferred me to every different for 5x!!!!! EVERYTIME I WILL SPEAK TO SOMEONE AND EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPEN THE RESPONSE WILL BE I WILL TRANSFER YOU OVER TO THE BLAH BLAH BLAH AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!! I was on the line for 2 hours just to file a dispute!!!! NO HELP AT ALL!!!!!!
bank advisors are not too knowledgeable…
bank advisors are not too knowledgeable when it comes to corporate finances. I had a bad experience with two advisors that gave me the wrong information, causing me to lose a lot of time and money. Will go with another bank.
Horrible service
For one of the big banks it’s deplorable how little actual customer service is offered. If you have to complete any transactions in person plan for at least an hour or two and bring a chair as you will be standing in lines forever. Lots of staff in offices & on the phones but only two people at stations to help a line of 10 and climbing quickly. What exactly do our monthly charges go towards cause it sure as shit isn’t customer service. Hoping to switch banks and find better service elsewhere.
Dump RBC and go anyplace else.
Do not do business with RBC. EVER! Stay far away from these thugs. Things have gotten so bad I too have to close my accounts tomorrow. My reason? They removed a small amount of money from my account they were not entitled to. It took almost three hours to correct one tiny problem. Being an Enron bank carries over they don't give well trained phone staff the power to correct anything. They are so desperate to keep accounts they made up a phony $20 charge to close my account. I read and reread every document and no where does it mention a close account fee. Let the account stand dormant and they charge a fee that sets you overdraft even though I have no over draft protection they will charge another sizable fee. Almost three hours on the phone. First was abusive perhaps thinking an elderly person wont kick his ass. Second and third lied and refused to connect me to a supervisor. Forth did a good job reversing the incorrect charge after leaving me on hold numerous times. The 5th recently immigrated from India and I have to say wonderful experience in spite of thick accents and and my hearing not being optimal. Actually did her own search to find a catch 22 in the telephone banking menu. It involves an different non-published number they would rather you not know about. This was a big mistake RBC. Big mistake huge. By the end of the last 1/4 of 2026 RBC will have lost 2 sizable corporate accounts. They have treating our clients so poorly complaints are almost a daily event. It's about what you might expect from an Enron bank. This garbage is coming down from the top and sadly the very few diligent employees like the one set up my account are spread to thin to have a lasting positive impact.
