Easy to claim, awesome contractors who had a long journey to reach us. All did a FANTASTIC job apart from the carpet suppliers who cancelled part of the order without consulting us. The fitters were... See more

Direct Line has been insuring cars for 40 years. From small beginnings, we’re now one of the UK’s biggest insurers, with more than 10 million customers. We offer a range of products, including home, pet, and business insurance, that you can get online, on our app, or over the phone. For many years, we prided ourselves on only dealing directly with customers, but as insurance has evolved, so have we, and you can now buy some of our policies on Price Comparison Websites. We always put our customers first, that’s why we make it easy to manage your insurance online so you can spend more time on the things that matter.

Great value for money when comparing prices. Easy to navigate the site.
Great policy, like for like at a competetive price.
Easy to purchase, did it in the last day of my old policy. Very quick with it being very last minute.
"Direct Line Earns My Customer Loyalty".
Direct Line has provided me as a customer with a consistently high quality service; phone calls handled with great professionalism and efficiency.
I rang to kickstart a new house insurance policy after selling our home and living for a period of time in a motorhome.
The Direct Line employee guiding me through the process with great clarity and care. It left me in no doubt that renewing my house Insurance policy with Direct Line was a good decision. Thank you Pat Graham
Very easy to understand and get cover as a senior citizen found it quite straight forward.
I have always rated your company, not fussy and straight to the point. Where other companies seem and make things complicated, you are straight to the point.

Where to start… a company that will sound friendly and useful on the phone, give you a competitive quote and premium BUT will not be of any use when you actually need the service they are being paid for! I am aware that I will get the generic ‘we’re extremely sorry/please contact us’ response, however it is utter rubbish, repeated from a team of people who do not care, using a well worn script that means absolutely nothing. As follows:
1. Needed to claim on my home insurance as a result of a cracked cold water storage tank in my loft, discovered approx 0600 on a Saturday morning. Phoned direct line , who immediately informed me that I do not have home insurance with them. After confirming I have my documents and speaking to a different person, direct line confirmed I do have home insurance with them. However, replacement of cracked tanks IS NOT covered which I will have to pay for (my thoughts being approx £200 to replace a single plastic tank).
2. Initially processed the incident quite well, had first contractor sent out to dry ceiling and carry out initial survey.
3. Confirmed work scope (replace damaged plastic tank and repair water damaged ceiling) with regional contractor who employed B&M Babbage to handle the repairs. At this time (approx 1 month after reporting the event) I had received notice to pay my excess, which I completed within 2 days of receipt.
4. At this point, communication with Directline and their contractors effectively stopped. I had multiple surveyors/plumbers arrive at my property, sometimes explaining that they have no idea why they are there or they are there to isolate the water supply (which was done at least 4-6 weeks before their arrival!).
5. A further month after paying my excess, 2 months after the initial issue, I eventually received a quote (by text message) of £1860 to replace the cracked plastic tank, at this point I logged my first complaint with direct line. This complaint was not logged by Directline and confirmed later.
6. After a further 2 full working days I explained that if something was not sorted I will be cancelling the claim and leaving directline. This only initiated a phone call from someone at the regional contractor company to explain that i need to pay the £1860 or sort the tank repair myself before the damaged ceiling repair can commence. Attempted to contact B&M Babbage to discuss the quote. However after multiple phone calls, nobody was able to discuss/address my queries.
7. Phoned the following day to cancel my policy. Directline confirmed my initial complaint was not logged and were concerned about how I have been treated (after at least 2 separate phone calls from myself explaining my position).
8. Cancelled my home insurance and purchased items to carry out the tank repairs myself. I will be looking to use a separate company to repair my ceiling as it will be quicker and a lot less painful than using Directline or their chosen contractors. I am also going to cancel my car insurance with Directline.

Was not happy with the renewal price. Discovered I could get a better policy at £238 cheaper than the Direct Line quote. I had been a loyal customer for several years, but their quote was so 'not competitive' I just lost all trust in the company. Have cancelled renewal and gone with a well-known supermarket insurance offer.

Craig was very helpful as I had a problem that other companies couldn't help with. I had tried 4 other companies who could have done the same as Craig but didn't want to help. Exact same cover as Nationwide but over £200 cheaper. WIN WIN

Fairness: For once, during recent years using DL you got the premium charged and cover afforded just about right compared with other insurers.

Renewal was simple and trouble free. When I wanted a new insurance booklet, phoned Direct Line had an answer straight away and received the new booklet a few days later. So I have nothing to complain about.
