Hot, Hot, Hot Garbage

The most useless, careless staff and processes ever.

Selling a kidney is probably easier than talking to anyone at Paul Camper who actually understands how Paul Camper even functions.

Dont bother.

Dear Adrian,

First off: "Hot, Hot, Hot Garbage"? Selling a kidney? You clearly know how to make a point. We're genuinely sorry that your experience with Paul Camper was frustrating enough to inspire this level of theatrical fury. That's a performance we definitely didn't want to receive.

Look, we know our processes aren't always as smooth as a freshly waxed RV on an empty highway, and if you felt you were talking to staff who couldn't navigate the difference between a caravan and a canoe, that's on us. It sounds like we failed to provide you with the simple, effective service you deserve.

We're going to put our internal processes under the microscope to fix this, because we definitely don't want our brand associated with anything garbage-related (unless it’s a 5-star waste disposal service).

Please, send us a private message with your booking details or the email address you used. Give us one more chance to show you that we're actually capable of simple human conversation and problem-solving. We'd like to understand what went wrong and ensure it doesn't happen again.

We appreciate the extremely direct feedback. Now let's try and make your next experience less... incinerating.

Best regards,

The Paul Camper Team. (We try harder, honestly.)

Paul Camper puts takes zero…

Paul Camper takes zero responsability and enable scamers to advertise their campers on their platform, after being victim of one of them, Paul Camper wanted me to directly negotiate with a person whose only interest is greed and who already stole my money and time.

At no point during the process did the landlord showed any interest in making me a fair offer or helping me get reasonable estimates.

I found out too late that Paul Camper doesn't have the best reviews, and many of us have felt cheated and undervalued.

I find it shameful that they don't offer better support in situations like this.

The least Paul Camper should do is remove listings from van owners who mistreat their customers to avoid overcharging future renters and not providing adequate support afterwards.

It's a shame as I did this as an experiment and was hoping for a good experience as I need vans for work related travel in the summer, but it's certainly been the opposite for me and has put me in a really bad financial situation.

To everyone that had been scammed by the landlord, and it seems to be something that is specially happening to forigners you can file a police report for free in the country that has hapened to you, so the person gets a record.

Also insurance scam is something that is taken very seriously by the providing companies so it is worth also emailing them to let them know what happened, as they will investigate them.

Avoid if you are foreigner, you will get scammed.

Paul Camper is set up so that the renter is required to engaged with the landlord (camper owner) directly regarding a ‘bond’ of EU1500. This is in addition to the insurance premium (confusing, as its the same amount and unclear) and any other costs. As a foreigner, this means that you are exposed and to the landlord’s ‘honesty’ as far as getting the bond transferred back. Unfortunately, we had a minor bump within the last 30 mins of rental which cracked a small plastic piece surrounding the wheel arch, so the owner indicated that the balance is on hold until the repair cost are determined. This is in the bond agreement and mentioned on the Paul Camper website. Fair enough I thought, and the owner emailed me with updates, provided a repair cost and agreed to return the balance to me in writing. This all ended abruptly once the deadline for landlord (owner) reviews was closed by Paul Camper, which I believe is 10-15 days post return. The owner is not responding, and I have lost the entire EU1500. As per many other reviews from renters, Paul camper is not responding to my requests for assistance. What does this all mean? Well, Paul Camper has a process that allows them to conveniently receive money from the renters, then they have distanced themselves from any support and the bond. This means that the camper owners can stall the process and catch out foreigners who leave the country. As mentioned after 15 days, there is no consequence or incentive for the camper owner to do the right thing. Also, the camper owner now has 1 positive review, for the same month that I rented the camper, which doesn’t make any sense at all. There is a lot wrong with Paul Camper and they are enabling foreigners to be defrauded- I would avoid them at all costs.

5 weeks before we should start with our…

5 weeks before we should start with our Camper rental it turned out we needed a C1 truck driver license. We were obviously shocked. The PC-site showed nowhere the weight of the rental Camper, it came as s total surprise to us. So what to do we lost almost 800€ for this unawareness. Luckily the Dutch/Belgium department found out that the PC-site was inaccurate and refunded the money. really great service, thanks again

I feel scammed...

We rented our camper for two weeks using Paulcamper. With the rental itself, everything went fine. But a month later I still haven't received payment from PaulCamper. It is near impossible to get them on the phone and when you do it's just empty promises. They won't get back to you when they say they will and when you finally get them on the phone again, they have no answers, just that you should wait longer. I feel scammed.

Unprotected Deposit, Beware

First, there is no deposit protection. It is t held in escrow or paid to PaulCamper to resolve disputes. You pay the deposit directly to the owner. So you are at the owner’s whim to return it.

Second, despite the sample condition report on the PC website, there is nothing of the sort in my experience.

The contract was a poorly written Word document from the owner. There was no condition report at check in or check out.

Result? The owner has withheld my full £500 deposit. Without any process or support.

The PC representative listened to my issue. But offered no resolution or support of any sort.

Outcome? I have to resort to the small claims court to resolve.

In addition, the vehicle was poorly maintained. All the warm and fluffy ‘tell the owner a bit about yourself’ etc - just that fluff.

Avoid.

Hey Matthias,
thanks for your review. We are sad to hear that you did not choose to go on through with the rental, as the price you mentioned was a technical issue that had been resolved very quickly. We would love if you gave us another chance.

Blissful experience

To be honest its not as much what the company (PaulCamper) has done for me that I would like to comment on but rather the actual owner of the camper/ RV. Since the word go he has been there, assisting where possible. Rogier has given some much needed guidance and advise and even shared apps and linka with me to make my planning and questions easier.

I am very grateful for choosing his camper/RV. May other tourist also experience his hospitality as we havr done thus far.

PaulCamper - Van life experience

This rental was meant to be...from finding the perfect Van to start communicating with the owner to finally go on a trip of a lifetime everything went super smooth and easy.
Big Thank You to Maik our host who is super responsive, took alot of time out of his day to give us a complete run through the Van to let us know what to look out for and even giving advise what to look for when buying our own camper Van.
I can highly recommend the Van and Maik as host and am thinking about a next trip I would like to book. Van life for non Van owners starts with booking a Van andwhat started as a test weekend to see if I like it turned into a desire to do it all over!

Payments proving very difficult

I have used Paul Camper previously with zero issues and very successfully. This year I am finding it impossible to pay the final payment. I paid the deposit no problem through my credit card. Having now tried to pay the balance it fails everytime with an "Opps......." Sent several messages via there Zendesk customer portal and rang Uk number. Now been asked to pat via bank transfer and IBAN/BIC. Over complicating what should be a simple process. Why?

Update - 21-06-2023. Paul Camper have been very proactive trying to resolve the issue and I have now been able to pay successfully via credit card. Therefore I have updated my review.

Campervan leaked we got soaked

Campervan leaked we got soaked. Had to spend 2 nights sleeping on my mother's floor in Gateshead. Hoped I would have gotten a refund for the 2 nights but didn't. Was assured the problem would be fixed for next renter. Does not make my trip less wet though.
The people all seemed nice enough but on reflection I felt a bit let down by them.
Don't get me wrong we had a good trip but the soaking we got through the night has left a sour taste

Like criminals

I used these in September 22. Apart from cancelling our van less than 1 week before the planned trip. To be told we would have to pay more for the two individual vans to accommodate the same capacity as the original van which got cancelled on us. All of which after chasing my deposit for 3 months after this I have just been informed by a Manchester motors who operates on Paul campers platform websites.. that he's really sorry he simply does not have my funds to return my deposit. I am now having to pay legal fees to retrieve my deposit.

Really NOT Recommended

Really NOT Recommended, Bad Experience
the tire that was given to us went flat 30 minutes after being picked up, after checked by the mechanic, both rear tires were very slippery and not suitable for long trips. whereas we have reported that we will be using the vehicle in the 3000km range. Surprisingly, both front tires are in very good condition.
the owner admitted the tire was 1 year old but he didn't want to be responsible, we had to replace it with our own money to buy two rear tires because paulcamper couldn't be contacted that saturday and we had not much choice, we bought Uniroyal brand tires which is the only tire available at the time at ATU (same size)
after the end of the trip my deposit was withheld because he didn't like the uniroyal brand, even though, he only said before that I could change to an "equivalent/gleichwertig" tire, while the tires he gave were already very slippery and dangerous. long debate. finally he got 3 new tires from my money (+1 pirelli).unglaublich

THEY WON'T HELP YOU AND THE OWNER DIDN'T FEEL WRONG

Not a recommendation as we had a bad experience. We got 2 slippery tires so 30 minutes after picking up the car, 1 flat tire and we had to replace and before that we were inform ed that we would take a road trip for 3.000km and unfortunately we got slippery tires. Luckily the tire went flat after 30-40 minutes of pick up. I can't imagine if it happened while our 2 toddlers 2 years old were in the car.

It is a big no recommendation too for the Paul Camer because when we want to apply and the process is very easy and very interesting.

But unfortunately for the whole I do not recommend because insurance is not provided in detail, especially in this case Paul Camper is only a third party. When we get a good second party that might be great, but when we get a sneaky car owner it's very detrimental. Paul Camper won't help you.

Insurance doesn't work. You don't want to help with it

So, I have really bad experience. Insurance what you sold me for ~100 EUR doesn't work. I scratched caravan and Allianz (your partner) says it's not damage. And I need to cover full amount from myself. You don't want to help me deal with the situation. You answer very slowly (less than 1 answer per month). You don't speak English. Well, you deceived me. It's a terrible feeling. Of course I would not recommend your company to anyone.
