Square's solution for online stores is largely a disaster and their support / "customer success" is non existent and seems to take pride in simply ignoring customers and hoping they go away.
I can only echo the other reviewers about the support "troubleshooting" cycle of death - slowly ask all the same questions, then disappear, nothing is recorded on their side, new person pops up and starts again at the start of the same pointless troubleshooting.
I FIRMLY believe it is a company strategy to use first line agents to defeat and disillusion their customers into giving up. There's not a worse B2B support team on the planet. Calling is "Customer Success" is truly shameless - an utter embarrassment.
I have a large online clothing label store and have been a Square merchant since 2019 and (ironically) also a large Square investor since 2017. It's got to the point where I can't window dress this business even to protect my own investment in the firm.
The online merchants software has always been full of bugs and clearly rarely tested. The standard is hopeless relative to SaaS platforms that take pride. In integrating Weebly (their online shop), Square decided to just retire features for UK users and make them more US centric, which tells you what they think about the UK.
Their knowledge base is inaccurate and trying to load a significant number of new product lines worth tens of thousands, my pre-existing inventory (400 line items) has been totally messed up and the advice I was given by the support AI agent to fix this made it much worse.
Since then I've had zero support from actual support (or laughably "customer success") but have spent nearly 3 hours negotiating slow, vague, disinterested support agents who disappear, hope I give up, then disconnect. In the meantime I've had to invest 5 hours myself making manual corrections.
Emails or responses are promised... then nothing. But I'm not surprised as my record for a response was a year. It's no use pretending they care about customer success - and I speak from experience having built major UK payment companies and setup support functions.

I am a seller and I contacted square in regards to asking them what there charge back polices was square stated that there company looked after the seller as well as the buyer so I though this is good as I had a previous card machine and they only cared about the buyer square assured me if anything happened as long as I had evidence that everything would be ok . I got an order for Funeral Flowers to value of £130 and the man paid with a card over the phone the next day his girlfriend came in a cab to collect the next day and I took a picture of her in my kitchen collecting them and and I also have her signature as she signed for the item as well . A week later there was a charge back and I contacted square they asked me to send in the evidence to which I did do and said that they would send the information on to the bank that requested it and that I would hear by Dec so I was ok with this within 2 days of me sending the pic across I got a message from square saying that they are upholding it and they put my account into a minus of £!30 not only was I at the loss of the funeral flowers but the money too I made a complaint to square and I also took it further but it was a pure waste of my time for 10 months they are still standing by there decision . What I am really angry about is in the beginning when I asked the question I was told that they looked out for the seller as well as buyer but this is not the case as I have know the bill for £130 and I am at loss of funeral tribute as well a total disgrace that the seller is not properly protected shame on these big card companies .

I have found the SQUARE card reader (very inexpensive) and interface/software really, really easy to manage and versatile. It has been so easy to set up Payment/Donation links to be used for websites. We are not a business per se, but an individual trader & non-profit. I would really recommend.

Very disappointed with Square. I was testing the platform while preparing to start a business, and my account was closed after transactions were made using my own card and my mum’s card, which she fully authorised.
The biggest issue is that Square has now locked my money and says it won't be released until 24 September 2026, despite there being no fraudulent or unauthorised transactions.
I understand companies need security checks, but holding someone's money for weeks without giving them a reasonable opportunity to access it is extremely frustrating. I've requested a review and asked for the funds to be released sooner, but I'm still waiting for a satisfactory resolution.
I would strongly recommend thinking carefully before using Square if having access to your funds is important to you.

Had less than a week, had a review where they needed more information that’s fine, sent everything they needed and review complete everything is perfect. Process another payment the next and they don’t bother to let you know they are reviewing again! Customer service well not very helpful. Already considering moving to another service

A great company for setting up your shop. Simple processes, and straightforward for those of us that are not too tech savvy!

Terrible customer service
My Square terminal stopped working and I’ve now spoken to four different people, only to be asked the same questions over and over again. Nobody seems to communicate with each other and I’m still without a working terminal. I run a business and can’t waste days repeating the same troubleshooting. If this isn’t resolved today, I’ll be moving to another payment provider.

Very disappointing experience. After creating an account, I was charged two payments and then had my account closed. The company refused to explain the reason, claiming it was confidential, while continuing to hold my money. Being charged and then denied both access and an explanation is unacceptable. I would not recommend this service based on my experience.

I’ve been a Square customer for over a year and the software/hardware itself are great, that’s not the issue. The problem has been recent customer service around a potential hardware upgrade enquiry. I asked their business team about loyalty pricing on the Register, given my account history and growth. BDM told me he could help, then handed me off to an unrelated ‘Banking’ team member who sent a generic, US-templated response about installment financing that didn’t address my question and even referenced US sales tax, which doesn’t apply to UK accounts. I followed up, cc’d the original contact, and had no response since. As a growing small business genuinely looking to spend more with Square, I expected a more joined-up experience.
Update- Thanks for getting back to me. Since your reply to this review I received a response directly, I was told Square can only offer loyalty pricing or discounts to businesses with £200k+ annual spend, which isn’t relevant to most small independent businesses like mine. While I appreciate the reply, there’s been no actual resolution or flexibility offered. A particularly closed dismissal in my opinion. Just wanted to update this for transparency.

Reliable and easy to use, following discussion with fellow retailers I decided this was a system I wanted

Needed an app for my daughter's lemonade stall, it was easy to set up and use on a phone, perhaps overkill for my use case, but there was nothing much else out there as good and easy.

regarding a card payment taken through my Square Reader on 11 August 2026.
I have been using Square to take payments for my business and, on this occasion, the payment appeared to have been successfully processed. The Square Reader displayed the smiling face confirmation, which I understood to mean that the payment had been successfully taken.
However, when I checked my Square app afterwards because I had not received the funds, I noticed a message saying that I had unfortunately run out of time. When I investigated further, there was no payment activity showing in my account.
I contacted Square Support and spoke to an employee who was very understanding and helpful. After checking my account history, I was told that the payment had actually gone through and that there had not been a loss of connection. However, I was told that because I had not confirmed the payment within the required time, the money would not be paid to me.
This is extremely concerning because I had no understanding that I needed to carry out an additional confirmation after the smiling face appeared on the reader. In my experience, the smiling face had indicated that the payment had been successfully completed, and I had no reason to believe that I still needed to take further action.
I was advised to contact the customer and ask them to pay me again. I have done this, and the customer initially confirmed that the payment had not gone through. I have since asked them to arrange payment, but they have now stopped responding to my messages.
As a small business, losing money for a service I have already provided is extremely difficult. I followed the payment process as I understood it and relied on the confirmation displayed by Square.i have now lost all trust in the square company and will be taking my business somewhere else one that support its customers during situations like myself

I was moving from sum up to square.
Unfortunately most of the time using my iPhone it says “card type denied” or “use another card”.
I then try customers card on sum up card reader and it goes straight through.

Wanted something that could take payments from customers using my phone and not needing another device to remember when I do my first craft fair (I always have my phone!) and this app seems to do the job. Pleased with ease of use and it’s free.

I had to try and delete my weebly account but since they were aqquired by squareup i had to create a squareup account. But then, weebly kept redirecting me to squareup and squareup redirecting me to weebly. Their support didnt help much.
I asked support to delete my account but they only deactivated it and didnt do anything.
Please DELETE my squareup and weebly account and all data.
This is a disgraceful company. They will terminate your account for not complying with their terms of service and then when you ask what the violation is they just keep repeating that it’s a violation.
For the record our ‘business’ was to operate as a political organisation and take small scale donations in line with political donation laws within the UK at small community events. Nothing in Square’s terms of service rules this out yet they have suspended us for apparently breaching terms of service. Therefore I can only conclude that their terms of service are arbitrary or that this is active view point discrimination, against some class of political speech, political speech for the record which is centre left and supports communities and co-operatives.
This organisation is a scam they take your money and data and then will shut you down at the drop of a hat NEVER EVER USE
