Their customer journey is very poor for follow up, specially the medical department. I had been waiting for their call for two days so that I can activate my policy because I have an URGENT appointment in immigration for mi students visa and they never call. They only called once and when I answered they immediately hung up the phone. I don't know if the reason is that they don't speak English or what? If so, they should just address in Spanish then, as I can speak both lenguaje. Poor service by the medical department

I don't want to image how bad it is when actually needed their help.
The prices are also incredibly high for the minimal service.

Awful customer service, they say they call back and never do, dont respond to email requests
Sanitas advertises the Hospital Upgrade as “freedom to decide – you decide if and when you want to switch.” This is extremely misleading. In reality, You can only switch every two years, and only on 1 January, after a long waiting period. None of this feels like “freedom.”
I was also told that the upgrade can only be made in specific years depending on internal rules that were never clearly explained when I signed up.
Sanitas should stop advertising flexibility when the conditions are this restrictive. Very disappointing level of transparency. Never again!
I've been insured at Sanitas all my life and I have never had big negative experiences with them, nor have my parents.
It seems to me that the reviews here are almost exclusively people who have had a negative experience (which I also don't doubt) but I think this doesn't represent the majority.
Every big swiss health insurer on this website has a bad score, so don't get blinded.
They simply don't want to pay out. It has been very frustrating dealing with this company. You cannot even give a notice of termination without paying for another 1 year and two months despite not having a one year contract.
BULLSHIT SCAM
WORST INSURANCE YOU CAN HAVE IN SWITZERLAND
GO FOR SwissCare - Its cheap and great
It’s been over three months since I submitted, and my entries are still “in review.” I suppose this means they’re taking the time to read every word with great care. They haven’t responded to any of my messages asking for an update, but maybe silence is their way of communicating excellence. It’s rare to feel this invisible – a truly humbling experience. Would recommend if you enjoy submitting things into a void.
The worst insurance. Bad service, not helpful. Expensive. They do not provide clear information to their insurers regarding their policy. I would never ever choose them as insurers. They take a long time to answer the phone. When they have you online they put you on hold for a very long time and don't come back with any help. I have tried to contact them after the death of my father to pay his bills and they cannot use common sense to enable you to pay them.
Overpriced. Avoid supplementary insurance at all cost they will try to trick you into multi-year contracts with rates changing every year and tricky/nuisance cancellation notice periods.
Why do they even need cancellation notice period? Or force 3 year contract? Its not like they make reservations of resources its just scummy contract terms.
I’m extremely disappointed with Sanitas. Despite paying nearly CHF 600 per month and having a deductible of CHF 2,500, I’ve received no benefits in return — which I find completely unacceptable. The fact that such a “deal” even exists is, frankly, outrageous. It is far too expensive for what you actually get.
I was under the impression — and it was communicated to me — that I would receive certain advantages, such as contributions toward a gym membership and other preventative services. Given how much I pay and how high my deductible is, that seemed only fair.
Sanitas advertises support for such benefits, yet when I submitted several claims this year — including for my gym membership — I was told they would not be reimbursed.
It feels like I’m paying a premium price for empty promises. Services that are supposedly covered are repeatedly denied. Unless you experience a major medical emergency — which no one hopes for — there appears to be little to no value in this insurance coverage.
As soon as I am able, I will be switching to another provider. I cannot recommend Sanitas to anyone. This experience has been deeply frustrating, extremely expensive, and profoundly disappointing.
I had to leave CH and requested well in advance, together with my deregistration letter for my policy to be canceled, customer support told me - we're working on it, it should be canceled in 2-3 days.
Just to understand 20 days later that they never did anything, I contacted them 5 more times, until someone noticed.
They made me run in circles, asking me to fill in more documents, asking me to share my personal information abroad, and then ghosted me again.
At the end, my policy got canceled but I still had to go back and forth many times.
Their app does not work well, but they have a professional customer service that can help any requests and errors.
Service is really personal, which helps a lot.
Horrible experience at Sanitas. Horrible service. Horrible people.
Sanitas is getting money out of its customers with lies. I talked to their representatives, agreed on a yearly contract for medical privat, hospital liability and basic insurance that is mandatory by swiss law.
They promised that I receive 80% of money back from medical privat, if I go to doctor outside of Switzerland. I did so once, payed 140EUR and they harrased my doctor in Switzerland and me to send enormous amount of documents, then refused to pay my money back. They also forgot to tell that Switzerland has agreement with EU and their insurance covers doctors in EU anyhow, so medical private is complete nonsense. I could cancel that after a year, but hospital liability they still do not want to cancel because they claim i have contract for 3 years! I never signed that and never agreed to it. Their statements are contradictory, you cannot reach them and once you do, unskilled people communicate with you. It is insane. And every year they increase premiums for no reason. The worst kind of hell to be insured by this evil company.
Avoid this company at all costs. Completely useless service, its only advantage is its low cost and now i know why. i tried to call the number for callmed medgate as i have a medical problem, no answer on the 2 numbers provided even though i tried several times for 2 hours. I try going through the medgate sanitas app but it won't accept my insurance card number and i get told later that i have an old number and my card is too old when i had JUST received it a few days ago. Then everyone tells me i can't book through onedoc but then when i finally manage to sign up on medgate sanitas, the appointment i took through onedoc shows up. Thank god i can wait a little, even though i shouldn't have to, and this is not a life threatening disease or injury (at least not yet)! I get told to go to the ER instead, which will charge me a lot of money, as we all know, when medgate is free. I pay them more than 3'000.- a year (and this is the cheapest option) for less than subpar service. Truly a disgrace.
They always reject an invoice if it is for 100+ CHF with absolutely misleading and wrong reasons for rejection. It‘s better to go with another health insurance company for sure.
We regrettably switched to Sanitas on the advice of a financial counsellor, because it was marginally cheaper than our previous insurance. Worst decision ever. We are generally a low maintenance family, as we rarely submit medical invoices for reimbursement. When one of us had to undergo emergency treatment during our holiday abroad, at a fraction of what the cost would have been in Switzerland, we started a series of exchanges with Sanitas, submitting detailed medical reports, translated invoices etc. One year, a dozen phone calls and a dozen message exchanges later, they keep asking for more information which we are unable to provide, in order to avoid paying on a technicality. Shameful service from a company that charges our family a hefty monthly amount. We will now look to go elsewhere as a result.
